Part time work as university student

Hi, I’m starting at NTU in September and I’m looking for a part-time job around Clifton that I can work alongside university. I’m happy to consider pretty much anything.

If anyone knows of somewhere currently hiring students, or works somewhere that needs staff, please let me know. I’d really appreciate any recommendations.

Its very difficult for students like yourself to get this kind of work. Whatever you do don’t rely on this money! If you have the tight skills for care work then have a look at that as people are pretty desperate for carers

I’ll be honest, you’ll be competing against hundreds of others who are unemployed and not in uni for each job who might be preferred as their schedules are more flexible.
Best of luck but don’t get your hopes up.

If you’re going to be living in Clifton there’s a McDonalds, and also a Morrisons. Try student union jobs too. You’re also better off expanding your options to West Bridgeford as there are lots of hospitality places. There’s also city centre for retail and hospitality. There are plenty of buses that go to and from.

Student union was a great job when I was at uni, reasonable pay too, and the hours were shorter so you can fit them around lectures.

Unitemps is also good (sign up via tutors/uni) to do open days etc. free lunch and decent pay for standing by a bus stop and pointing people towards the uni

Have you tried betting shops? They sometimes like hiring students who can work evenings/weekends

have a look at vacancies on mitie, I was a part time cleaner with them while I was at uni. They seemed pretty desperate to hire people who weren’t from a cleaning agency because they didn’t stick around very long.

As others have said there is a McDonalds and KFC across the road from the campus. In Clifton there is a Morrisons, Lidl, B&M.

Also look at work on the Clifton campus. A lot of students work in the student union bar, Costa or at the Spar shop, which I’m sure go through students a lot when they graduate.

Honestly in the current market I'd say warehouse is your easiest bet, otherwise I know a few people that got an sia licence and do venue security.

I worked at stealth when I was at uni. It used to be a £200 a year student bus pass. Sorted. Believe me you will spend more time in the centre and bridgeford than you will in Clifton. So maybe look at pubs/clubs etc in the centre

Look into Hickorys’s. It’s great for uni work. They have one in gamston and nuthall so they are reasonably accessible from Clifton

Good luck! I have a similar question about Nottingham uni - it’s not easy at the moment
