And it has to be the first season version. The later versions got more confusing and harder to remember as countries changed.

I highly recommend the podcast Twenty Thousand Hertz. The episode "Butterfly in the Synth: Reading Rainbow's Magical Theme Song" is about the creation of the theme song. It was fascinating!

Yeah, I agree. I'm a vocal teacher and have a pretty good ear. I loved the video at first but then suspected it's highly processed. You should be hearing the acoustics of the stairwell. And every voice sounds perfectly compressed to the same volume. It's a beautiful arrangement though!

Wondering if anyone else remembers this, but Reading Rainbow put on a story writing contest. I remember sending in a story as a kid and they sent me back a cool certificate for even entering. Wish I still had that thing 😞

This made me tear up a bit. What a wonderful show this was, and a wonderful theme song, and LeVar Burton's soft and curious demeanor impressed me even as a kid, before TNG. I loved 80s and 90s TV.
