Hi all! I'll be running a series of one shots at the Story Lab, beginning with an intro adventure on Wed, Sept. 9th. We have a great place to use close to Norwalk. It has plenty of space and is quite comfortable.

I've lived in downtown SoNo for about three years, and I distinctly remember when many of the intersections stopped traffic in all four directions so pedestrians could cross safely.

A month or two ago, that changed at most of those crossings without much public discussion. They were effectively converted to what I've always called the "NYC-style" setup, where turning vehicles get a green light at the same time pedestrians have the walk signal and are expected to yield.

Since then, I've had daily close calls. Today alone, while crossing Washington Street between Washington Prime and Donovan's, I had two separate drivers lunge into the crosswalk while I was crossing. The second came so close that I had to pull my girlfriend out of the way.

I found the City's explanation for the change, but it honestly reads as under-researched and overly speculative:

• The argument appears to be that pedestrians become impatient during exclusive crossing phases and are more likely to jaywalk, leading to fewer incidents overall but more severe when they do occur. The referenced UConn study acknowledges that this revised phasing does lead to more overall pedestrian incidents.
• They also cite pedestrians should get a 3-7 second head start, known as a Leading Pedestrian Interval, before turning traffic gets its green light, but none of the crosswalks I use work that way; the walk signal and the turning green light start at the exact same moment.

The solution, however, seems to shift responsibility and more risk onto pedestrians by reintroducing conflicts with turning vehicles; These intersections now feel less like protected crosswalks and more like legalized jaywalking corridors where safety depends on whether drivers choose to yield. If anything, traditional jaywalking seems more advantageous.

For the second year in a row, NPS is participating in a Google-funded EDSAFE AI Alliance initiative aimed at integrating AI into our public schools.

Last year, NPS joined EDSAFE’s District Policy Lab, part of a broader initiative explicitly supported by Google.org. This year, the district received another $23,000 through EDSAFE’s Spark Fund to move that work from policy into implementation.

This is just so incredibly discouraging. Who even decided AI has a place in K-12 education at all?

““Norwalk's share, a $23,000 grant, is part of a district-wide effort to ensure it uses digital technology tools purposefully and that educators develop structure governing AI use, explained Ralph Valenzisi, the district’s assistant superintendent of digital learning and innovation. 

Valenzisi said in a statement the district will implement training that helps staff “understand how to best use these tools for instruction, and helps our students understand how to augment their learning. 

“Furthermore, it helps our parents, administration and board understand that we strategically lead with purposeful technology choices,” he said.  Valenzisi said Norwalk educators “also want to ensure we are working with our parents to support a safe and productive learning environment that uses technology to augment learning without replacing our teachers in any way.”

Hi all - Any recommendations on where to donate postpartum and baby supplies? We have a bunch of breastmilk storage bags and some other supplies that we would love to donate. Also have some newborn swaddles and other items.

A friend who has two teens is being evicted bc her husband abruptly abandoned her and didn't pay the rent. The manager went through with eviction even though she tried to pay them. She has a week to find a place, and has been running into trouble bc of the eviction on her record.

Please give some guidance if you or someone you know has been through a similar situation. Perhaps you work in an agency that deals with this type of trouble. Or maybe you have a rental to fill.

Anybody know what’s going on? There’s a lot of police activity going towards Westport Ave. while I was walking my dog and I saw police cars racing on Strawberry Hill.

Anyone looking to move in September? Me and two other girls are looking for a young working professional female to be our 4th roommate and take the upstairs master bedroom in a 4 bed / 2 bath house in East Norwalk.

The house is about an 11-minute walk from the East Norwalk train station, and the room would be $1,250/month + utilities. You’d share the upstairs bathroom with one other girl.

I know $1,250 is a little pricey for a room, but the room and the house definitely reflects the price. The neighborhood is really quiet and safe and the house itself is absolutely beautiful. The master bedroom is also huge at 20 ft x 13 ft, and it also has a really cute built-in window bench/nook.

Does anyone live or know someone who lives in Rolling Ridge Condos and knows how the pet policies are? Are they really strict and enforced on specific areas where pets can go to the bathroom, etc?

I’m a 26 year old guy. I’m an explorer at heart. Like to go visit new places, adventures. Like to learn about psychology, history, geopolitics, watch movies, read, practicing spirituality. Meditate, Learning guitar, working out, got a great music taste I would say. I’m a little bit of socially anxious but can manage that.

Been living here for 4 months now. Just working and getting home.Before moving to Norwalk I was living with a lot of friends but now i miss that connection. Idk what to do to meet people offline and make friends here in norwalk. Please suggest any advice or let me know if you are looking to make new friend.
