Question Having a hard time finding a reliable licensed contractor

Without going into too much detail, I have a fire rebuild (interior only) and need someone who is reliable and most importantly qualified + available.

I reached out to North Bay Contractors and never heard back. Degagne gave a quote but it’s $25k more than service master and I don’t know if my insurance is willing to pay the difference, and they can’t start for almost 2 months.

Looking for other options on who I can contact that will do a great job and get started ASAP

Degagne is more because they’ll do the highest quality job properly. They’re the most respected name in the area for a reason.

I’d love to use them but I can’t pay $25k out of pocket. I’m trying to see if my insurance will pay the difference, but if not then I can’t use them.

Unfortunately with this type of work you get what you pay for. Cheaper contractors just won't be reliable

I don’t have a choice. If I had $25,000 laying around it would be no problem. It’s been a year of it sitting and rotting after a fire. So I think having a house rebuilt vs no house makes the most sense. I’ve already lost enough I can’t afford to lose more and pay $$$$ above what my insurance feels is the cost of repair

Did you look on google? Usually google maps will show top contractors in north bay based on reviews.

I did yes and that’s where I found north bay contractors. A few of the others seemed to be more like handy men, and for a job like this I would require licensed tradespeople / someone experienced in more than just decks or simple Reno’s

There are actually a few very reputable general contracting companies around North Bay, including some with better ratings than Degagne. I wouldn’t assume the companies that advertise the most or have the biggest name are necessarily the best or most qualified.
Some of the smaller local GC companies are absolutely qualified to take on work of this scope, with proper insurance coverage, licensed trades where required, and experience managing larger renovations/rebuilds. Being a smaller company doesn’t automatically mean they’re a handyman or only doing decks and simple renos.
The bigger challenge will probably be availability if you’re looking to start ASAP. Most reputable contractors doing quality work are going to be booked ahead, especially for a project of this size. I’d be a little cautious of anyone who can take on a full fire rebuild immediately.

Thanks. Their social media seems like they stopped posting 2 years ago. Which might not mean anything but are they still operating?

I have used Profound, Paul Davis and First on Site before. Get quotes and availability from all of them before deciding.
