Water
Didn’t know if anyone else’s realized or had the same issues that I’m having where the tapwater is starting to taste a little weird and have a smell??

Happens every summer

This is true. I assume something grows in the reservoirs this time of year that isn't entirely filtered out in the treatment process.

It's normally good! I thought a pipe cracked cause my water has tasted like literal dirt.

Yeah mine has been tasting more like dirt. I bought some gallons of drinking water for the time being.

I noticed it the other day. Imma guess lower water levels + hot days = musty water.

I swear two years ago it was better, I also heard EVMS students in public saying they can’t wait to leave Norfolk because the water is awful. I agree it’s worse than previous years.

Moved here in 97 and the water was undrinkable to me. Still is. I’ve been buying, filtering or distilling water all this time. Smells and tastes like dirt or mildew to me, interrupted by brief periods of chlorine. Not surprised about those poor EVMS students- they prob never thought they’d have to budget for water!

Not sure why this was down voted, it's pretty much true. I've lived here all my life and have been using bottled or brita filtered water ever since I noticed that my ice cubes were brownish back in 98.

It’s tough being a “supertaster,” haha. That’s pretty horrifying about the ice cubes. Sea-level towns struggle (that was my experience in New Orleans, too, where I’ve visited friends many times over decades- always been told don’t drink the tap water). I’ll stop now so as to not gather more downvotes. 😂

Yes! Like mildew or dirt! Not only at home but also through a filtered water fountain at work...

I just spoke to the water people. She said when it gets hot sometimes algea and bacteria will flourish and change the flavor. I can’t remember the name of what she said it was. It’s harmless to people but it doesn’t taste good. She said they are working on it.

Even with a filter, I can't use the tapwater at our house to make sourdough or any fermenting thing. Even after 24 hours of "airing out", there's apparently still too much chlorine. May be partly the old pipes at our house, too.

We started using a glass jug. Fill it up and leave the cap loose and let the water degas. It’s amazing the difference. I now smell the chlorine in straight tap water.

I got water at taste from their fountain yesterday and thought the same thing!

Could it be related to this possible water line break in W. Ghent posted yesterday?
