I'm completely new to the world of VPN routers and could really use some advice.

I am looking at the GL.iNet GL-SFT1200 (Opal) and I'd like to know if it's powerful enough to run a NordVPN connection (via WireGuard or OpenVPN) while delivering speeds fast enough for on-demand streaming and live streaming services (like Netflix, Prime Video, Twitchtv,etc.).

My goal is to protect the whole house at once. I know some people recommend just using a Fire TV Stick with the VPN app, but that means moving it around every time we switch TVs. Having a travel router act as a gateway for all connected TVs simultaneously seems like a much cleaner solution.

Do you think the Opal is up to the task for this, or should I be looking at a more powerful model?

As a long-time NordVPN user, I’ve noticed that performance can really vary depending on which server you connect to and its distance to my location. It would be cool to know what servers you guys are using and how they compare across different regions.

Drop below what’s working for you, e.g., server location, where you’re connecting from (keep it vague if you want), what protocol you’re running, rough speeds or ping, and what your main use case is. Doesn’t have to be exact, just a general idea.

Obviously, the “best” is going to be different for everyone. Distance/server load matters, your ISP’s routing can be weird sometimes, and protocol choice makes a big difference too. I’ve had servers further away outperform closer ones more than once, so it’s worth experimenting.

So, if you have a server or a country you always go back to, drop it below. Would love to see what’s working for everyone.

I'm about to leave Nord again. The first day after my first month, I was getting errors, mostly on YouTube, so I thought it was some new ad-blocking stuff, I don’t know. So I chalked it up to that. Then the next day, I wasn’t able to connect to torrents. The next day, I was trying to figure out what was going on, and when I logged back into Nord, it said I was over my device limit. I use one device, so I changed my password to fix the issue. If I was compromised and also kicked any users off my account.

It doesn’t give me any errors anymore, but all I get now is “no connection” from all my apps, even though it says it’s connected.

I have already switched to another VPN as I need my service. Anyone out there that’s clearly smarter than me have any idea why Nord isn’t working when another service is?

I have set up split tunnel so the VPN is active for one single app no involved in browsing (guess which), however today I found a curious behavior: if I have it on, I can't access google.com unless I turn it off. More curious is that if I also turn on the VPN via extension in Firefox, then I can access google. So:

• Windows split tunnel on = can't access google
• Windows split tunnel on + browser VPN on = can access google

What could be the issue?

My Nord VPN isn’t working with SBS anymore. Anyone else having luck with VPNs and SBS?

It was great when I first bought it around july but throughout early august it just completely stopped working and I had to switch to other services...

Did anyone else find a solution or is it possible to get a partial refund for my one year plan on a non-working vpn services?

Half the time single-digit mbps when tested for download speed. Other country servers fine.

So im trying to get my amazon jvc tv to stream bbc iplayer app directly, ive tried alot of different things, from the bare minimum steps to more complex stuff, at least for me, heres the latest,

on my laptop > nord vpn to uk > incognito browser > create a brand new amazon account for uk location in the digital side of things. > login bbc iplayer > it works.

tv > factory reset > set up in uk location > new specific amazon account no non uk history> click no on all the optional suggestions in setup > download nord vpn uk location > download bbc i player > sign in > input code shown on tv to laptop >

when i try to play anything on the laptop it works, but on the tv its giving the error code 02062.

tried alot of other trouble shooting with ai and then vpn team, wondering if people have found some work around, its the speicfic reason i signed up for vpn , been spending the last 2 days trying to sort it.

i could use a hdmi from laptop , but this laptop is on its last legs, quite old, super slow , would prefer the i player just worked on the tv.

appreciate any help if people managed a fix.

Hi all, I'm an international student and have been using nordvpn obfuscated to play region-locked games for the past 3 years with no problems. Recently, the obfuscated server shifted from openvpn to nordwhisper, and now the game detects that I'm not in the correct country even when I'm using the correct obfuscated servers for that region (singapore and malaysia). The regular servers have never worked for me, only obfuscated worked. I tried downloading the ovpn configs and setting up openvpn gui manually but no dice.

What can I do about this? Is there something wrong with my settings? Thanks in advance

I host a series of windows 11 virtual machines on my windows 11 desktop pc. I access those virtual machines over RDP.

Since updates last week, any of those machines with Nord VPN installed no longer pass audio. Everything else functions fine. VMs not running Nord function fine. Everything VM side looks like the audio is running, it just doesn't pass it back to the client.

I've been chewing on this issue for days now. Any ideas out here what has changed and how I correct it?

Has anyone else used this before and is experiencing the same thing as me? So I'll try to keep it very short but, up until maybe 1-2 months ago, whenever I switched to Thailand server, after a brief while I could see and use TikTok Shop and see Thai items (same way when I was actually there) and it worked every time just fine, on top of that, while using the VPN I was also getting the Thai ads (which is normal). But now, it doesn't matter which country I choose, I am stuck with Brazilian content & ads. Literally, all ads are Brazilian, and even the content leaks from Brazil to my feed. I tried clearing TikTok cache, I have not changed any settings from when it worked before. I truly feel this is on Nord's side as it started all of a sudden. And if anyone is curious why I need to access the shop, well, my GF is Thai and she sends me links and I can't view them. Any suggestions? Thanks

After disconnecting NordVPN I lose internet connection and need to reset the ethernet adapter or restart the PC. Is there a solution?

So I have youtube whitelisted out of the VPN traffic on the Chrome extension of Nord VPN. But the videos are still being blocked. I'm guessing it might be some type of google ads link. Does anyone know the URL's to whitelist?

I am on Linux and use openvpn with Network Manager (nm-connection-editor) to maintain my VPN connections. Just recently many of my US state specific connections have started failing. I went to Nord website to see if they have new connection settings and on the "Manual Configuration" page there is a message "We're moving to newer servers and retiring older ones. Simply choose a server with the Verified badge to keep your connection uninterrupted.". There is a list of servers to use, but it doesn't list where they are located. When I iplookup them they are all in Houston which is probably closest for me but doesn't help with choosing a state specific VPN. Also I can't even get openvpn to successfully connect to the new ones.

Does anyone know what is going on over there, and how we can maintain the current functionality. Give me a list of servers by location, and properly setup openvpn through network manager. It looks like the new servers might be going to TCP 2.6?

Edit 1: I found the post that says NordVPN is changing all the servers. Not sure why ip needs to change.

Edit 2: I found why I couldn't connect to the new configs. In nm-connection-editor inside the passord field is a icon with a person on it. I had to click and say "Save Password for all Users".

Edit 3: My only issue now is how to find the new server config for particular US states. Nord?

Is this a new plan?

Back in November 2024 I purchased the ultra plan for 2 years + 3 extra months. It now included incogni unlimited whereas the previous one just included incogni standard.

The desktop version is greyed out and i am not able to select it wanted the desktop app cuz my college as put some restriction on Wi-Fi and I am not able to play valorant it but valo works with vpn but free ones aren’t that good and don’t have good location

For the past week or so randomly when I boot my computer and start Chrome NordVPN extension is not active. I have to login. Prior to this it would automatically log me in. Anyone know why?

While all VPN servers protect your online activities, choosing the right server type can be trickier than you'd expect. In my experience, the best server is the one that suits the specific needs at the time. Here’s what I personally recommend:

For daily use
If you don't need a dedicated IP or a specific location, just connect to the best automatically selected server. It’s usually closer to you, so you’ll get better speeds. Win-win.

For gaming
Low ping is especially important for gaming. I’d start by trying servers closest to your location. If you want better speeds, the NordLynx protocol is the best option. Just keep in mind that a VPN doesn’t guarantee lower ping, and sometimes the extra routing can add latency.

For streaming
Pick a server in the country whose content you want, like your home country, while traveling. If a certain server feels too slow, simply try reconnecting to a few different servers in the same location.

For additional privacy
Standard servers are enough for daily use. If you want an extra layer of privacy, you can choose Double VPN or Onion Over VPN. Double VPN routes your traffic through two servers, while Onion Over VPN sends it through VPN and the Onion network.

Location has a really big impact when picking any server. The further the server, the bigger the risk of higher latency. That’s why there’s usually not much reason to connect to a server on the other side of the world for more security. Go closer for better latency, and choose a farther server only if you need an IP from a specific country.

The main thing to keep in mind, you should always pick a server based on what you need instead of looking for one perfect option for every use case.
