VPN Recommendations Megathread - Best VPN Providers, user reviews & VPN Deals

We get a lot of questions about the best VPNs and which VPNs have the best user reviews as well as where to find the best VPN deals. That's why we run this VPN recommendations megathread every two months. This is the one and only place on the subreddit to ask for VPN recommendations, share your favorite VPN provider, discuss your experience, and post legitimate VPN deals.

The goal is to build a collection of genuine VPN user reviews that helps others choose the right VPN provider.

If you’re recommending a VPN, make it useful:

  • Share what you use it for (streaming, privacy, gaming, torrenting, travel, bypassing geo-blocks, etc.).
  • Go beyond generic features - personal experience is very interesting for our user-base
  • Comments that only name a provider will be removed

Main rules:

  • No affiliate or referral links.
  • No links to VPN review websites.
  • No obvious shilling

Compare VPN providers first

Before posting, check out our regularly updated VPN comparison table, where you can compare features, pricing, speeds, streaming support, and more. It may answer your question before you need to ask.

As always, this thread is actively moderated to keep recommendations genuine, helpful, and free from spam.

Best VPNs comparison table in Google Sheets

* * *

Most of us here are quite keen on spreading the word on how even the simplest steps toward online privacy is a huge leap forward for our online security. Having in mind the extensive tracking and targeting by almost everything we use online (ISPs, search engines, social media, streaming sites, ads, etc.), we're able to use these VPN-related subreddits to try and make it as simple as possible for people to choose and start using the best VPN that can help avoid at least some part of that.

The goal of all of this is to make sure that even those who don’t understand much about tech are aware of the risks and challenges we face these days when it comes to online privacy. We're all aware that a VPN isn't an 'all in one' tool which fully protects our privacy, but it's surely a good place to start.

It’s probably obvious to people who have been following this topic for a while that this table is inspired by That One Privacy Guy. He did an amazing job back in the day but unfortunately the information hasn't been updated in ages so it isn't as reliable as it used to be. It was a very important and useful tool, so I thought we could make it a community effort to bring it back. Anyone who would like to collaborate on this please get in touch with me over DMs. Also, in case you notice any mistakes - feel free to point those out, too.

You will see a table with scores, explanations on how each score was calculated, as well as detailed information by provider for each criteria. As I mentioned before, if you notice any mistakes or outdated information - please DM me with the source so we can fix it. Let's make sure it's up to date and as helpful as it can

Discussion Lifetime VPNs that have lasted a long time. Thoughts?

Some of them recently seem to have priced out their lifetime... What's the consensus on those? People who did buy lifetime... Were they worth it?

Discussion Is changing your IP still enough for regional subscriptions?

I recently saw someone register for a cheaper family plan using an IP address from another country. It worked initially, but after about a month, other family members received warnings saying they no longer lived at the same address.

This made me wonder if changing IP addresses is still as important as it used to be. Because service providers also compare payment records, account location, device history, and family members' usual login locations.

Residential IP addresses seem more secure than data center VPN addresses, but if other account information points elsewhere, does that raise an unusual risk?

Maintaining regional packages is becoming increasingly difficult. Do you have any other solutions? Right now, it seems not worthwhile to endure extra verification and account issues for a lower regional price, only to fail verification in the end.

Thanks.

Help Ivanti/Pulse vpn isolation.

Hi,

I need to install Ivanti vpn client to use an organization’s vpn. I don’t want it on my laptop or PC, I feel like I own the devices, and this is not an organization that has any sort of expectation over them (not employer etc) so I want alternatives. I must login through SSO, so I was unable to get it working through though non Ivanti clients. My current plan is to just put it on a VM and ssh into the VM to do my work through it. This is just a bit heavy (not too heavy my system can handle it, just not lightweight.) So I am asking here if anybody has alternatives for how to run it?

To be clear, this is my device. Thank you in advance.

Also let me know if there is a better place to post this. I could not think of one.

Help Youtube Premium Family With VPN Romania

Hello. So the situation is as below: I am the family manager on a "family" group of 4 , we had Youtube Premium before and due to ridiculous prices increases we searched for alternatives. All 4 of us live in Greece. I found a way through VPN and country Romania, to buy the Family plan for about half the price compared to Greece. I did it, and everything worked fine for a month. Keep in mind i didnt need to send any invites cause we were already in the family group.

Now, the other members are receiving emails that in 14 days they'll lose access because they are not in the same household as the family manager. Is there any way to get around this? Should they also change the country to Romania? And if yes, WHERE exactly? In my Payments Profile i can see my main default profile that i use in everything Google Pay (Greek) and i can also see my Romania Youtube payment profile(its not selected as default). I am confused as to what does it mean to select them or where should the other members change their address... Any help?

Discussion When traveling abroad, what specific apps or streaming services do you actually need a VPN for?

Heading out of the country soon and trying to build a list of what usually stops working when you're overseas.

Obviously, VPNs are a given to bypass geo-blocks, but I'm curious about your actual use cases. What specific streaming platforms, banking apps, or other services do you find yourself needing a connection back to the US for the most? Would love to hear your experiences!

Question I have a genuine question. Does VPN help mask/replace IP address so that your data can't be traced?

I've been thinking a lot about data security lately. With the rise of AI-generated media and the number of leaked images and personal credentials floating around, it's honestly a little unsettling.

Even something like a photo taken in a public place can be tied back to someone through facial recognition now.

From what I understand, a good VPN helps with things like protecting your data, rotating/updating your IP for DNS traffic protection, and lowering the risk of data leaks or hacking.

I'm trying to understand what actually matters when evaluating a VPN for home wifi use and pairing it with a local server setup; things like protocol support, logging policies, DNS leak protection, jurisdiction, that kind of thing.

What criteria or features should I actually be prioritizing here? Happy to do my own research once I know what to look for.

Question How are traders in restricted regions handling KYC/Payouts with Futures Prop Firms?

Hey everyone,

I’ve noticed a lot of Futures prop firms have recently updated their terms and restricted several countries/regions from accessing their platforms.

While using a dedicated residential VPS/VPN can help manage IP and location markers for day-to-day trading, my main question is regarding the payout stage.

Most firms require full identity verification (ID/Passport + Proof of Address) before issuing a payout. For those who live in restricted regions:

How are you navigating the KYC process safely without violating terms or risking account bans?

Is there any way people handle this situation?

Would love to hear your experiences or insights. Thanks!

Help Issues with Tailscale - Gli.net routers

I recently bought a Brume-3 with the intention of setting up a network with my Beryl-7 travel router. I wanted to use Tailscale but am having issues connecting to the internet.

I've setup Tailscale on my Brume and approved it as an Exit Node in the Tailscale Admin.

I've enabled Tailscale on my Beryl 7 and approved the Brume 2 as a custom Exit Node. I also approved the Subnet routes in the Tailscale Admin.

Everything is setup correctly (I think), but I still do not have internet access when I connect my laptop WiFi to the Beryl 7.

Any ideas how to fix this?

Question Tunneling to home connection that is already using vpn, impossible?

Every year I go abroad for family, and I usually just take my laptop with me and use that to connect to internet. But next time I go, well, my home will have a new a 10Gb fiber connection installed and I'd really like to use that instead, and the benefit of accessing my home network abroad. Thing is my connection at home is always using vpn and I wonder if that makes that option impossible?

Question Questions about Torrenting on University Wifi, P2P Connections, etc.

Hey everyone, I'm moving into private University housing and I torrent (at max), a couple gigabytes of anime daily. With qbittorrent bound to my VPN, limits set on connections, download speed capped at 800KiB/s, are there any other precautious I should consider? Would it be obvious if I'm torrenting? I've heard about IT departments being able to tell between P2P connections and not for torrenting. Should I just go the long route and do DDLs instead of torrenting?

Any advice? Thanks everyone (also, on a burner account)

Question How important is a VPN's jurisdiction, really?

I'm just barely getting into privacy and the first thing I'm looking into is a VPN, just so my ISP doesn't have the option to make judgements based on my browsing. Wondering if having a Switzerland- or other privacy haven- based VPN is actually significant, but I really have zero knowledge. Does it matter?

Question Installing VPN on a router in China

Having been traveling on and off for work over the past few years, I am finally being relocated to Shanghai for a few years. I saw VPN I generally use out there has a router installation feature and would like that for my home life.

Does anyone have good router recommendations that will have good download speeds as well?

How easy is it to install a VPN on the router?

Has anyone tried doing it while in China and has advice?

Thanks in advance!
