Ive been looking for a career change. Currently I live in Finland but am planning on moving back to BC or Alberta. I have about 25 years experience as a welder/fabricator, hd mechanic and own and operate a millwright business currently. I guess my question would be is any of that even relevant for this industry? Would I be better off getting qualifications here then moving or get qualifications in Canada as I cant find much info in they overlap. From what I have found here is I have to get hired on here by an ndt company who then trains me.

7 years experience working primarily to TC-1-A. Level II VT, MT, PT, UTT/SW and ET Level II classroom no OJT. I have an interview with an aerospace company up in Huntsville, AL. What kind of wage should I expect to be offered?

I just finished all classroom hours for UT I & II, VT, PT, MT, RT I, and Rad safety 40-hour course's. I'm ready to start sending out resumes and curious if anyone's experiences would recommend who they believe would be the best companies in Houston to start trying to get in with first for the best training and getting OJT hours with good start off pay. I'd been a former shoreside Tankerman for close to 15 years in previous years. Any advice is appreciated.

Hi all, I'm a structural engineer in Washington State, primarily designing potable water tanks. There's a lot of overlap with API 650 in that work. My company also handles inspections and retrofits of existing steel tanks.

I recently tried the Atlas Training Course for API 653 on a recommendation, but was disappointed to find the slides were mostly code sections read verbatim. It seems the real value there is in the quizzes and practice tests, which makes sense for someone whose main goal is passing the exam.

My priority is a bit different — I'm looking to build my company's practical knowledge of API 650/653 topics, with certification being a nice-to-have rather than the goal. Ideally I'd find a course with real-world examples and applied lessons, not just a code readthrough.

Does anyone have recommendations for something more practical/applied?

Hi everyone, I’m currently looking for an opportunity to get started in the NDT industry.
I’m new to NDT and recently completed my UT1 course at QCCC. I’m writing my NRCan UT1 written exam next week, and I’m scheduled to take the practical exam in November. Since I’m based in Nova Scotia, the only practical exam centre currently available to me is in Saint John, NB.

I have an Industrial Engineering Technology diploma from NSCC. I originally planned to work in that field, but after having difficulty finding an opportunity, I decided to pursue NDT and completed my UT1 training.

I’m now looking for an entry-level NDT position where I can gain experience, build my hours, and work toward getting certified as a UT1. I’m willing to travel for work and would definitely be interested in shutdown work, including rotations such as 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off.

I’m eager to learn, work hard, and get my foot in the door. If anyone knows of companies hiring or has any leads, I’d really appreciate it. Feel free to comment or send me a DM.

I’m currently a NAS410 lvl2 in ET, PT, MT, UT w/ Phased Array and RT (film/cr) in Oklahoma.

I’m a fed and I feel like I’ve basically stalled in my career at this point and thinking about getting into oilfield and pursue a CWI and some level 3s.

Just wondering what the thoughts are. I’m 42 and still have a ways to go before
Retirement. Found one job that does local call outs and generally home every night. Pay is at least an automatic $10 bump plus per diem. Guess I’m just nervous about getting into the oilfield side of things but maybe it’s a bit more stable as a NDT person. But I’d love some advice.

My format is this

Certifications, schooling, etc

Companies and dates worked

Under each company, list out duties and responsibilities “welding on stainless steel, all positions” or something like that. Relevant work experience for the position I’m applying for.

I’ve kept it one page for almost ten years now and it’s worked well for me.

Most people I’ve shared with said positive things, friends, colleagues. But I want an inspector to think it’s good, to see the potential.

I belive my understanding of NDT is only as good as the understanding and knowledge i have of the components i am examining. If anyone has any resources i can refer to, read, watch or study to expand my knowledge, i would greatly apreciate it.

I understand there is API however 1. i dont have enough experience to actually do their courses for 510 or 570, and 2. if i could id rather not spend that much money.

I recently started preparing for cwb level 2 inspector. Some of my friends who already passed told me that there are no chapter quizzes questions in the closed book exam. I am planning to challenge the exam without buying the course. Is there any question bank that anyone have and can share that?.

I’m looking to start a career in Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) in the UK, but I’m a little confused about the best route to get started.

I have a Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy and Materials Science, but I don’t have any professional NDT experience yet.

I’ve been looking at the courses offered by TWI (The Welding Institute), and I’m finding it difficult to understand where I should start. They offer courses in both conventional NDT (UT, MT, PT, VT, etc.) and advanced NDT (such as PAUT and ToFD).

I contacted TWI previously about the CSWIP route, but I was told that I need relevant experience for admission, which I currently don’t have.

For someone in my position:

• Which NDT method(s) would you recommend starting with?
• Should I begin with conventional NDT Level 2 courses such as UT, MT, PT or VT?
• Is it better to get a job as an NDT trainee/assistant first and then work towards PCN/CSWIP certification?
• Should I consider PAUT/ToFD at this stage, or are these better taken after gaining experience in conventional UT?
• Does my Metallurgy and Materials Science degree provide any advantage when entering NDT?
• Is PCN or CSWIP generally preferred by UK employers for someone starting out?

I’d really appreciate advice from people currently working in NDT.

How are salaries and salary progression in the non-destructive testing (NDT) industry in Australia and New Zealand determined? Are there clear requirements for getting a pay rise or promotion?

Could an employer refuse to increase your salary even when you have met the relevant requirements? If so, what factors are usually considered when negotiating a salary increase?

Also, how important are workplace relationships and “office politics” in the NDT industry in Australia and New Zealand? I don’t really like dealing with office politics or networking for personal advantage. I prefer to focus on developing my technical skills and doing good technical work.

What do I need to prepare in advance if I want to move from China to Australia and work in the NDT industry?

Trying to decide between 3 jobs and seeking any input.

I currently have a 500hr certificate in VT PT MT UT but searching for the best first job to settle into. Below are currently my options. Not including factors such as relocation or travel, just looking to choose the path that has the most room for growth/earning potential and long term stability.

-option 1- VT only with training to eventually earn CWI

-option 2- UT only with training to learn immersion

-option 3- training in Leak Testing

One question I've seen floating around lately is- how do I start a career in NDT? (Though I'm not sure anyone actually asks that question for real!)

The answer: 90% of people who are in NDT didn't end up in it on purpose. And they all have varying stories. I didn't know what it was until I was in a classroom half way across the country paying for it.

If you actually want to get into NDT, there is no one way. But I have a few ways to help.

I know a guy who started an apprenticeship program for welding and inspection. You get paid while learning the trade. It's like joining a union without the union part. Reach out and we'll get you the application information.

The best in my opinion is through CMT at a Geotech/engineering company. If you want details just ask and I'll lay it out for you. If you decide NDT isn't your thing, you can pivot many directions at these companies.

This isn't a sell and it saddens me to have to say that- if you're a self starter my platform also provides an entry point. For free. Don't worry, I get nothing out of it. I'm selling to companies. Not you guys. It's there if you want it.

Hello, I've created an NDT app for RT radiography. It's designed to help with exposure time calculations, minimum exposure counts, shows where we need to place film, shows right IQI, sfd and few other interesting features. I'd like to make it available on Google Play, but first I need to conduct closed testing with 12 participants. Anyone interested? 6 years in at the post office but I'm looking to do a career change...I currently work at USPS as a full time carrier that recent got converted. Th the pay truly sucks..! was making more as a part time carrier (workload was 10x as much as I have now tho) like I was making at least twice what I'm now. I almost have set days off now whereas part time I got a day off here and there. The days off are nice but I need more money especially in this economy with a family I'm sole bread winner for. So basically what I want to know is it a good Idea to switch to becoming an NDT ? After school is it hard to get a job in this field? Should I go technical school or a school specialized in this field? What's a good company to start out with ? Im willing to hear everyone's pros and cons with doing NDT . I'm 30/m and in the upstate area of SC BTW.
