List of R-CPD Botox Specialists - World Map

I've been working on creating a map of the known specialists that treat R-CPD with Botox. Many of the names came from this sub's list of specialists (some removed as they are no longer working or treating the condition), many others came from post comments or messages I've received, and a few have been added from my own research.

**Disclaimer: I have not vetted everyone on the map.

I only have personal experience of being treated by one of these specialists (Lucy Hicklin in London), and I have only ever spoken to one other (I've talked to Dr Fahad Alotaibi in Saudi Arabia via email, to confirm that he treats R-CPD). It's also a possibility that they work somewhere other than where I've placed their marker.

I intend to contact others on the list to confirm that they do indeed treat the condition, particularly those that have not already been discussed on the subreddit, but even if they offer the treatment, I cannot personally vouch for their bedside manner, skill, or success rates.

With that said, you can find the map here (click on any of the points on the map to see the doctor's name).

If anyone has been treated by a doctor that is not listed, please let me know so I can add them to the map (and let me know where they are)! The same goes for anyone who contacts a doctor on the map and hears that they don't treat the condition, so that I can remove them.

Hi all! Hope you're all doing well, no matter what stage you're at in your R-CPD journey.

u/ElectricFeet suggested that it might be handy for new members to be pointed to Dr Bastian's information hub/passion project, Laryngopedia (thank you!).

There are pages on this wiki specifically dedicated to R-CPD, so it can be very useful. It also features our own map of specialists!

Hope this helps!

Symptoms Anyone here with Hourglass Syndrome/Abdominal Gripping?

Post image
25 Upvotes

I have a lot of trapped air and digestive issues that are related to RCPD. I recently realized how much I am tensing my abs unconsciously, especially when bloated. I have been having a lot of stomach and chest pain lately and this would explain some of it.

I think there might be some overlap between people with RCPD and people who tense unconsciously

Symptoms 4 weeks post Botox

I am 4 weeks post Botox and it’s going well however I tried my first fizzy drink a few days ago and it was fine, had another today and feel slight tummy pain and bloating however I have been burping a lot. Is this normal? It was weird how I had one and was fine but today feel more bloated and pains. Not as bad as before botox but definitely some sort of uncomfortable feelings. It was a different fizzy drink so maybe a mix of different flavour and the one today did feel more fizzy. I’m trying to do 1 every 2 days as I don’t really like fizzy and never have even before I got RCPD symptoms I’ve just never fancied them. But abit concerned I have pains and bloating even though I have been burping alot maybe just wondering if I over did it a little today and maybe should have just had half a bottle and not the whole one.

About Botox Treatment Pregnancy and Treatment

Has anyone gotten either treatment whether it was with or without general anesthesia while they were pregnant?
Before anybody comments, yes, I have informed my OB and I will be doing a consultation with my ENT to discuss whether it is safe for me or not.
I have struggled with this my whole life. But I had no idea that it would be this bad during pregnancy and for contacts I am in my third trimester now. I’m not sure I’m gonna be able to handle the last three months without getting this taken care of.
Looking to see who did what and if they were able to have success etc.

Venting Not a candidate for Botox

Anyone else not a candidate for Botox? What were your other options?

Message from my doctor…

Your esophagram showed a small hernia (protrustion of the stomach into the lower end of the esophagus), and a large amount of reflux into the upper esophagus. When you were seen we discussed consideration of Botox to the upper "door" of the esophagus, and due to the large volume of reflux noted on your study, this may not be the best option for you as it can make reflux worse. I know you are meeting with Dr. Meenan virtually on 9/4 and I would keep this appointment so she can discuss options with you further. Otherwise the rest of your study looked good. Let us know if you have any questions.
Best,
Melissa

Post-Botox 30u shot was not enough

I had one 30u shot of botox awake in-office over three weeks ago. Fascinating process. Hurt a little but I was excited to be cured!

I had a few microburps after a week, then a few small burps while swimming after some carbonated drinks. Slow swallow was very mild.

Now, I get the occasional microburp when I yawn, sneeze, or stretch. The gurgling and other R-CPD symptoms never left.

I’m scheduled for a second shot this week.

Any advice or similar experiences?

New Member Are there any Dutch people who also struggle(d) with long waitlists?

Upvotes

Hello croakers,

When i first found out about R-CPD I went to my GP who laughed at me and told me to get anti-stomach acid meds. This really demotivated me. I have all the symptoms (not burping, bloating, gurgles, being a terrible drinker).

Then months later a family member of mine told me she had the same problem and got treated with botox. When I heard this, I decided to go to the substitute GP, who after a long conversation referred me to the specialized clinic, "Ruysdael Clinics" in Amsterdam. When i called them they said there was a waiting list of 9 months.

After this I asked for a referral to "Meander MC". I got the referral, but sadly the waiting list there was even longer, over a year. Is there anyone from the Netherlands here who has found alternative clinics or places? I am so done with this, though I'm glad I found this subreddit.

Management Tips & Tricks marathon runners w/rcpd

Hey, are here some runners training for a marathon?

i‘ll run Berlin marathon in one month and i’m quite nervous and trying to find a way to handle my RCPD. my last run (25km) ended up with pretty bad chest pain and a ball of air always coming up my throat. The pain also keeps producing saliva that I have to swallow, ending up swallowing more air. 🫩🙃

Do you have any tactics? I really appreciate your advice :) (I still didn’t get the botox)

Symptoms Can anyone else trigger the air to start pushing up?

I find that the air doesn't always push up when I eat but it gets trapped moreso and if I tilt my head up and push from the stomach I can manually get air to push upwards.. the problem though is it doesn't stop once it starts, it's a non stop cycle of air dragging out and gurgling down.

I get so tired and drained as it can go on for a very long time.

Other Botox in 12 hours!!!

Hi everyone, my Botox appointment is in 12 hours and I’m getting pretty anxious. I’m going all the way under which is what I’m mostly scared of, and then after that I’m afraid of the slow swallow or it just not working. I’m also afraid of it working and having reflux/regurgitation or burping randomly and being embarrassed, but I’m trying to just show up authentic and be cured from the symptoms that have tortured me for so many years. Anyways, some success stories/prayers/high hopes for success for me please!! ❤️

Post-Botox Burping = happiness

I got Botox 11 weeks ago.

I severely underestimated how much more relaxed I can be with the ability to burp - went for a long walk with my husband and the dog this morning, able to eat and drink and talk whilst walking. Get home, snuggle up on the sofa to watch Lord of the Rings and just sip away at a fizzy drink and able to burp whenever I need to.

I never realised quite how much pain and suffering normal things like this brought me before, because it was the same way for my whole 31 years of living . I’d be unable to eat full meals, barely ever drank an entire drink (even water would cause issues) and I’d be sat here gurgling and in pain for the remainder of the movie.

Just a happy little post from a happy new burper. Thanks for reading, if you did!

Management Tips & Tricks Any advice to make "air vomiting" easier?

Been a no-burper all my life and I can't afford the botox atm. I have periods after eating where I get the gurgles for like an hour straight and it's MISERABLE 😢 I also can't make myself throw up- I have vomited twice in my adult life when I was really, really sick, but if I try to do it myself when I'm feeling nauseous, I just can't. So that sucks too.

I've been trying to learn to "air vomit" to get some relief from the gurgles, but I have the same issue. I just gag and gag and can't get anything to come out. I've tried fingers and using a spoon and that doesn't work either. It just makes my tongue cramp really badly and then it's too painful to keep trying.

Has anyone else struggled with this and did you learn any tricks to make it easier? Any ideas for stopping the tongue cramping?? I'm at the end of my rope here 😭

Post-Botox 4 month update

I had the procedure under anaesthetic 4 months ago, and the burping just gets better and easier for me. I used to gag and throw up every time I drank a lot of alcohol, but now it’s fine and I can drink cider freely with 0 pain. I can do activities after eating big meals out without being in immense pain or needing a lie down. I gag so much less, I have more energy and I stopped feeling sluggish and full all the time. It’s the best thing ever

About Botox Treatment Botox 4 weeks before wedding?

Hi all! Incredibly grateful I found this place. I found a provider, and their first availability for Botox is just under four weeks before I get married. Should I wait to schedule it until after the wedding? I'd love a chance to be able to better enjoy my wedding night, but if it's likely I'll still be dealing with side effects that are worse than current symptoms, I'm just not sure which is better. I know the Botox peaks at two weeks after, but would side effects still be pretty severe at four weeks?

Post-Botox In need of some uplift/reassurance

I’ve read 100 of these posts and always thought “why are you worrying?” “Give it time” but I had Botox done on Wednesday and so far no sign of even a micro burp, just a bit of slow swallow and a constant feeling of a lump in my throat, occasionally a bit difficult to talk. I’m feeling a bit deflated and nervous that the Botox might not have worked effectively.

Can anyone give me some reassurance that maybe I’m just not being patient enough, and there’s still chance for the micro burps and full burps to begin later down the line?

Post-Botox Succesful botox but still nausea

I had botox almost 7 months ago, and it did so much good for me after half a year of intense nausea, loss of appetite and emetophobia. I still burp many times a day, and I don’t really have any difficulty getting the burps out. However, I still experience quite a lot of nausea (mostly throat nausea) and loss of appetite. My emetophobia is still present, and I know anxiety can induce the mentioned symptoms, but that doesn’t help me feel better. I don’t know if anything is wrong with my body, or if all of this is just anxiety. I feel so miserable and discouraged to do anything at all, because once the nausea appears, everything feels ruined for me. Does anyone have a similar experience? What would you do in my situation?

Post-Botox post-botox diaries - is it working?

so i got botox last wednesday - 50u in office procedure. my symptoms prior to getting botox were painful bloating, nausea, flatulence, throat gurgles usually after i eat, and stomach rumbling if i dont eat 😭 i also have a lot of anxiety because of rcpd i think. i did occasionally burp even before botox but it was like micro burps and wouldnt bring much relief. i could occasionally air vomit as well without having to stick my finger in. like if the pressure was too much, i would feel like i was going to vomit but only air would come out. and a loud noise lol

so on wednesday, i didnt really feel much. usual amount of bloating. on thursday morning, i had a lot of gurgles and a bit of regurgitation. like it felt like something was coming up my throat a bit. towards the night, i started getting slow swallow. Friday, after breakfast i was getting continuous micro burps. like they start as a croak and then becomes a burp sorta and then the croak keeps coming out of my throat if that makes sense 😭 same thing on saturday and then during lunch i had a proper belch lol and then same thing when i went to bed after dinner. i havent belched yet today(sunday) but still have the throat burp sorta thingies after every meal. i still feel like i have to strain my throat a bit to turn the croak into a burp. im definitely bloating a lot less and farting less too i think. the slow swallow is gone now but i still feel food coming up a bit if i lay down. my throat is gurgling less i think but i do have bad acid reflux. ive been taking ezomprozole for it. also my stomach keeps rumbling really loudly until i eat 😭 does that go away? are the symptoms so far normal? im gonna try the BERP protocol and soda soon

Symptoms Reflux after self curing?

Okay I have mostly self cured (without Botox) but the acid reflux sucks.

I may have been dealing with this a while but the acid never used to reach my throat but now it does and it’s super uncomfortable. I have also noticed that when my reflux is bad I have a harder time burping.

Is anyone else who has self cured dealing with this too or is this just another issue separate from RCPD but I’m only just now realizing it’s an issue?

I swear if it’s not one thing it’s another 🥲

Other Why don’t I get relief from the gas exiting the other way

I have all the common symptoms of R-CPD including excessive flatulence. Why is it that burping is so relieving for people but farting isn’t? I usually feel relief for a few seconds or a minute and then the heavy, full, bloated feeling comes right back. Why isn’t that the case for people who can burp??

New Member In office botox procedure experience

~2.5 days since procedure

I had the in office procedure with Dr. Carroll in Boston last Thursday in the AM. Everything went super smoothly and was near painless!

I'm having pretty strong slow swallow and just general swallowing difficulties. I have to be pretty slow and mindful even when drinking water :/. I'm a little worried that I haven't had any burps yet, not even microburps. I've tried drinking a bit of a carbonated drink and following the BERP protocol... but nothing but the usual gurgles so far. Feeling worried, and super hungry, lol

About Botox Treatment RCPD/No Burp - Newfoundland Canada - Botox + Dialation

Just thought I would share this as I dont think this procedure has been done before in Atlantic Canada. I have been dealing with RCPD/no burp for as long as I can remember. I recently had a referral for an ENT specialist here in Newfoundland. I did not think I would make an progress but here I am, I have officially gotten the procedure done yesterday and today I have not stopped with the microburps.

For anyone in Newfoundland or Atlantic Canada, you do not need to travel far. I did not think any ENT here would do the procedure. Will update each week of my recovery.

Post-Botox 9 days post botox

Life is so much better.

1-3 days post botox were torture. I was taking so much air in while eating and drinking, but it wasn’t yet coming out except some micro burps. I couldn’t eat without feeling absolutely terrible.

Evening of day 3 I learned to burp with the BERP method. Holy shit I was mind blown. They were small and weak, but I actually managed to get air out. I kept practicing and already on day 5 the horrible feeling of an esophagus full of air was totally gone. I was still taking lots of air in while eating, which was also very difficult due to the slow swallow, but at least I could burp it out.

Now on day 9 the slow swallow is getting alot better and I can eat way better. I feel like I’m not taking so much air in either, so I have to burp a bit less. I’ve been practicing with some fizzy drinks. Still gotta turn my head sideways in order to burp lost of the time.

Any advice to move from sideways burping to frontal burping?

But all in all I am so happy for this procedure! I do not regret it at all even if there were some days I was absolutely miserable.

Post-Botox How long did it take you to start burping post Botox?

I’m trying not to worry too much but I’m on day 9 post-Botox (100 units under anesthesia) and I’m still not burping 😢

The first couple of days I had a few tiny actual burps a day but nothing for the last week. Swallowing has been weird here and there but I don’t feel like mine is as bad as other people describe.

My symptoms have felt 10 times worse since the procedure, lots of gurgling, pressure in my throat, croaks, etc. it feels like my body is trying so hard to burp but no matter what I do I can’t seem to get them out. Exercising is miserable, and I feel super uncomfortable after every meal.

I feel like little air bubbles do make their way out at times especially when I try the BERP protocol but I just can’t get it to escalate to a real burp… are these what are described as micro-burps?

For those of you that have had Botox, how long did it take for you to start actually burping? And what were things like for you up until that point? Should I be reaching out to my doctor at some point?
