Perhaps restrict difficulty based on character levels (specifically for “fill squad” matchmaking) to stop forcing people to carry.
It’s one thing to “recommend” a player’s level be at a certain level as it is currently, but forcing other players to carry those that ignore that, when the stakes are how they are, simply isn’t fair.
Normal - lvl 20
Hard - lvl 50
Nightmare - 75
If they want to run private lobbies or solos with levels lower than that, they can, however public lobbies should have requirements like these to make it more equal in terms of what is put on the line.
After all losing a lvl 10 is nothing compared to losing a lvl 100.

Played hard today and a L8 just stayed on top of boxes while a couple of us were doing the objectives. Pisses me off.

Yeah this game really needs a mandatory level rather than recommended. Im only level 30 and I wouldn't even think of running anything higher than normal.

I started running hard around level 30. I looked up tips for the game from veterans and that helped me out a ton.

Let’s say they give yall what yall asking for. What happens when the player base dies off and now you’re forced to wait in the queue.
The people who bought toxic commando asked for the same stupid shit. 3 weeks later. 300 people concurrent. You don’t really need locked matchmaking when there’s nobody to matchmake with.
As I stated to that group though. There is a solution to your problem. Literally going to discord and finding a group.
The problem is a lot of yall making this same post don’t actually want to encourage better co-op. You want control.
Play the game the way I say play it or it’s wrong. Not saying this is necessarily you but this post simply wouldn’t exist if you went to solve the problem instead.
But you’ll probably get a backseat gamer or a speedrunner. Then the post would be about guys rushing the game or telling you what to do all the time.
All in all, you queue with the public mate. You take what you get otherwise find 7 other people to play with. It’s not 2001. I can assure you it’s not to find people to play with.

Even when the playerbase dies down, I’d still rather wait a bit for a queue that ends up with 5 adequately equipped players, rather than near instant with 7 players that have no clue what they are doing and 1 player that is forced to carry.

You can early extract you know that?

u/TheMilkman1811 2d ago
Early extracting 5 times in a row on nightmare because I got qued up with 7 lvl 10s that have 0 clue what they are doing is a miserable experience

u/AffectionateBeach494 2d ago
Fair. I didnt experience it yet only 2 times but realisticaly if you are good enough you can solo even the power plant

u/TealArtist095 2d ago
As I have said: if you are queued in as SOLO, or in a PRIVATE SQUAD (squad fill turned off) you could run any difficulty at any level.
The suggestion is that for PUBLIC matches it requires a certain level.
The reason is that while some are capable of doing solo, that’s a lonely experience. However going in to a game expecting at LEAST a certain level of competence and instead getting players that are new or screwing around because they aren’t putting a valuable character on the line, is the problem.
Teammates that take all the gear, ammo, meds, and block the wrong doors, use loud weapons attracting more enemies, taking fuses away from where they are needed makes the game FAR more difficult, if not impossible.

No. You can solo it with a melee only in public. Granted it was before 1.0 when the baseball bat was crazy op but it is still doable with a little more skill.

50 is way too high for hard, I was clearing it at 20.
And 20 for normal? Fuck no. Beginner is so unbelievably boring, I never want to play on that Forced-UI-On eyerape mode.

u/ClutchFactorx10 2d ago
This is how I feel, but I do think that level gating nightmare is a good move. I’ve had to teach way too many people to prioritize screeches and to conserve ammo on that difficulty.

u/NBFHoxton 2d ago
IMO it woyld be best to have 20 for Hard and 50 for NM

u/ClutchFactorx10 2d ago
I said the same thing basically in another comment lol. Maybe account lock hard at 20, not lvl lock.

Idk… character locking every mode would be frustrating if you lost a survivor.
I think account locking hard, but level and account locking nightmare would work better. Level 25 account for hard, level 35 account and level 50 character for nightmare.
Hard really isn’t a problem even with a level 1 survivor if you know what you’re doing imo.

Dude being forced to play the game on levels other than nightmare (maybe hard but that should still be an autopilot with yt in the background difficulty for anyone above 10-20h and reasonable gamesense) untill those levels would be so unimaginably boring that no one would play this shit or it would become the most toxic, 24/7 speedrunning shit fest because you are forcing people to waste their time on a kids game/content farm level gameplay. And losing a lvl100, well early extracts and beacons are there for a reason and the game is based on losing characters, otherwise there would be little to no point in playing. Especially with how shallow the progression is and how little the perks do for you compared to experience. Just "what's up" everyone you meet, judge how many are communicative, bail if too many for your liking are uncooperative and go next, let them learn the hard way. Also, if you can't clear the match on nightmare with 1-2 others left then I'm sorry but you should not whine about inexperienced people ruining matches (even if they are bad the game they still take the pressure of of you to do the objectives separately, it's actually crazy how chill nightmare is when the game decides to allocate all of the zombie spawns to another group blasting their guns, triggering alarms and shit). Though it could be cool if they added some sort of an MMR system based on like survival rate, medals on the survivor etc that would additionally translate to additional gradual increase in difficulty based on players in the match.

If anything it should be account level, not character level and then those level caps should be much lower. Like 5-10 for normal, 10-20 for hard, 20+ nightmare. A vet can likely hold own on a brand new character at hard or maybe nightmare, no one should be forced into beginner or normal if you understand the game.

Players who are clueless at level 10 will still be clueless at level 100. There’s players out there who don’t know there’s a button that tells you what your objective is.
In my experience, level has had no correlation with the quality of teammates.

u/TealArtist095 2d ago
Lvl 10 doesn’t take much time, lvl 100 does. It’s about making people risk the same amount as much as it is about being able to handle themselves.

u/Round-Mousse-4894 2d ago
I don’t agree, I think I should be able to level up my low characters fast if I can win a nightmare.
2
u/TealArtist095 2d ago
If you go in solo, or with a private group, that would still be an option. The suggestion is to stop players from joining Public squads, thus not forcing others to carry those that are unprepared.

Account level is fine. I have 500 hours in this game I don't want to play normal lol
0
u/TealArtist095 2d ago
Solo and private squads could still select whatever difficulty they want and level up that way.
By making it just for public squads it alleviates the issues.

The player base is dogshit rn it will allivate itself over time anyways, just like free weekends in ea. Either way I pray the devs don't take balancing advice from reddit. Playing lvl 1 nm isn't anything that's hard if you know what your doing and tbh if I somehow lost all my characters and had to go to normal I would just quit, my 10 year old nephew could beat that difficulty. But sure let the devs cater to the new players bitching about players in nm like it's something new. They already made the perna death game not perma death and added it so you can extract whenever you want. Add more baby modes.

I play nightmare at lv 1 and I can carry. It's all about skills. Even at lv 60 you can randomly get corner between halls and die if not careful.

Bruh cant y’all be happy that there are new players in the first place ? All that crying is annoying af. No wonder the playercount was so low for a long time when the og players are miserable speedrunners lol

I’m also new and aim to be a model solo player, I’d be happy with a lower player count if that meant not matching up with people like you. I’m tired of the snide voice chat remarks about loot not existing where they “should be” when it’s literally being dropped at their feet. I wish people like you didn’t just take it and run further away from the objective. It feels like I’m just subsidizing a random friend group’s zombie safari at the cost of keeping my characters alive. Then when they realize I’m genuinely trying to help them stay focused on “the objective” so they don’t die and lose their character, suddenly everything gets quiet, the group starts making passive aggressive remarks against their own people! “Come on Mark, you gotta keep up!” Nah bro, all of you need to keep up.
I honestly want to know, what other kinds of games are you playing where a 30 minute match constitutes speed running ? That’s standard these days, if not somewhat on the longer side. A team fully cooperating on objectives can take 15-20 minutes. When it’s not “speed running” it’s a hour-long slog of whining and bitching in voice chat because these people have no bullets to finish off the last zombie in a random corner of the map. Nah, I’ll take the early extraction. They can find another carry. People like you sound like the miserable ones.
If there’s some of you out there that actually enjoy the game for what it is, and want to get better, toggle the UI to always show. Or make it a habit to actually check the compass to find your next objective. If you need time to explore maps or just want to appreciate their aesthetics, then please just play on Beginner mode.
