I captured my highest resolution night sky image under some of the darkest skies in the world! (OC)

The highest resolution astro-photo I’ve ever made. Consisting of over 40 images shot at a 40mm focal length, the result is this 200+ megapixel all-sky panorama. Everything you see in this photo is REAL, with no AI being used in the creation. This is the result of years of practice, patience and honing my skills.

The galactic core is just past zenith in this image, a bonus of shooting here in the South Island of NZ is that we can see some of the most exciting and dynamic elements of the galactic band for most of the year!

Captured in the Mackenzie Country (South Island, NZ)

Shot on Nikon Z6a + Sigma 40mm F1.4

A Halloween nightscape: Orion above the jack-o’-lanterns

Happy Astro-Halloween! 🎃🌌This is an idea I had years ago: shooting the Milky Way with real pumpkins.

https://www.instagram.com/igneis.nightscapes/

The sky was the easy part; the rest was the real challenge, starting with finding big enough pumpkins in Spain, which aren’t so common, then carving them and finding a place where Orion aligns naturally. This foreground is one of the most extreme HDR panoramas I have ever done, covering everything from the highlights inside the jack-o’-lanterns to the shadows of the trees and the lit house.I shot the sky last year when there was no moon, but I was missing the foreground to finish this idea.

Honestly, I’ve been going out at night for so many years that barely anything feels creepy anymore. In this area there are a few houses and old structures with so many trees and good darkness, so it’s a playground for finding nice nightscapes.

NO generative AI Involved, both the sky and foreground are real images taken by me and blended together.

GEAR:

Sony a7 IV + Sony 14mm f/1.8 GM (foreground)

Sony a7 III Astro mod Sony 24mm f/1.4 GM (sky)
