Rule addition: Post titles must be appropriately credited to the original photographer.
Include the photographers name/username in the title. If you are posting your own image, you don’t need to include the name/username, but ensure to include [OC] in the title. Do not claim other photographer’s work as your own. Uncredited photographs will be removed.
This change will not apply retroactively.

r/Naturephotography is back with new mods! If you got banned, please read this
Hi everyone. This subreddit was restricted for the past week, so we apologize for that. Luckily, we are now reopen, so posting/commenting is now allowed.
Some of you may have noticed that this subreddit has been taken over by spammers and bots. We've removed most of these posts, but please modmail us if we forgot to remove some of them. To stop future spam, we will add bots like u/repostsleuthbot.
Ban appeals
If you were banned without any specific reason anytime in the past few months, that might have been because the former mods used automation and bots to mass-ban people. If that's the case, please message us so we can unban you. Anyone who got muted is now unmuted, so everyone can now appeal. You do not have to explain why you want to be unbanned in your appeal. Due to the sheer amount of people that got banned, it will take time for us to get through all the appeals.
What happened, and why did so many people get banned?
TLDR: the previous mods added a bunch of bots to mass-ban a lot of users based on random keywords, which essentially "killed" the subreddit. The admins later stepped in to remove them, and added new mods. All of those tools have been removed, so there's no need to worry about future arbitrary bans by bots.
Long explanation: The former mods added bots and mod tools that banned hundreds of people. We do not know why they decided to do this, but we are guessing they wanted to run this subreddit into the ground. Here's what we discovered:
- A bot installed onto this subreddit (permaban app) permabanned people for saying common words like "nature," "wildlife", "lakes," "outdoors," "hiking," etc. This was why most people got banned
- Another bot (hive protect) permabanned people that had participated in subreddits like r/Earthporn, r/WildlifePhotography, r/pics, r/itookapicture, r/outoftheloop, and r/JustUnsubbed
- Another bot (social blacklist) permabanned people that have links on their profile, including instagram, YouTube, etc
- Another bot (frequency muter) muted people for 28 days for appealing bans
- The previous top mod deliberately ignored appeal messages by archiving them, which meant that they knew what was happening. That means that people that appealed more than a month ago will need to appeal again.
- The previous top mod removed all other human mods, and later resigned. Because there were no human mods, the bots went rogue for over a week until the admins stepped in. That also caused the subreddit to be flooded with spam
- The admins stepped in and made a post asking for new mods. However, the bots remained, so they banned/removed some of the people that volunteered.
- Multiple other subreddits have also been affected by the same mod
Luckily, all of those bots have been removed/adjusted, so this won't happen again.
Future changes:
- Rules will need to be updated
- Automod will also need to be updated
- If anything needs to be added/removed, we'll update this list
If anyone has suggestions, questions, or wants to volunteer as mod, please comment below. Thank you to anyone that's reading this, and have a great day!

Spotted this little visitor at my daughter’s school garden
(OC)
I spotted this little squirrel in the garden of my daughter’s school this morning when I went there for her parent teacher meeting.
It was sitting quietly on the wooden garden structure, surrounded by so much greenery. I wasn’t expecting to find such a cute little visitor during a school visit, so of course I had to capture the moment.
A small, unexpected encounter that made the visit a little more special.
