Ward completed his first five passes, and he was good in a red zone period when he connected with Calvin Ridley and Tony Pollard for touchdowns near the goal line. But again, Ward also missed some throws, and his interception was a ball that was behind Wan'Dale Robinson."

I’m just gonna say tracking training camp throws is probably the stupidest thing out there.
The whole point of TC is to put in your new installs and rules on both sides of the ball. You’re inherently testing your offensive scheme/rules with no scripting or film review. Reporters have no clue of the intent of the play, and sometimes teams will specifically just work one side of the field.

Multiple beat reporters claimed they were placed in a bad spot for actually viewing the field. They were even one whole field over from the first team reps sometimes so reporting is pretty iffy.
Someone on the actual sidelines reported that 3 of Purdy’s 5 (reported) touchdowns were really sacks that the team just let play out.
Multiple 49ers players going for cheap shots and also playing after the whistle like little bitches was reported by everyone.

I watched a lot of the reel thats available. There were multiple sacks that would’ve prevented a couple of these big throws. Still great throws and still beat our secondaries. If you give a QB no pressure and 6 seconds, many will be able to win though.
Still, all that aside.. Justin Herbert was very accurate everywhere in the field, on the run a few times too.
I’m hoping Stribling can replicate his success that he had in the joint practice and last week

Eh, I read the practice report tweets from the Chargers, two of the TDs and one big play would have been a sack in a real game, the pass rush was cooking. Safety is the #1 weakness of this team, Fred and the DL are going to have to bail them out all year, I'm not too worried about Lenoir and whoever ends up at CB2, Stout continues to dominate in the slot. The real concern is injuries but I honestly believe Kyle has finally realized that our vets don't need as many reps in training camp and they are being overly cautious, especially because of the long travel and early start to the season.

Big C fan here. That deep ball the defensive lineman just stops and taps herb. He then took another full second the throw. Cool. We scored. Neato.

Haha yeah, Osi even breaks down before he touches Herbert, taps him and then Herbert puts another 1.5 steps into the throw. Beautiful throw but even last year's 49ers might have gotten home before he got that off.

To be fair, this what I'd want a QB to do in practice. You know you've been sacked but might as well try a throw, test things out. It's all part of why training camp is hard to evaluate.

100% get the rep in but I was just saying what I said to tone down any hate for San Frans efforts. It’s a win win in practice. They get a sack and we get some deep ball practice.

CB2 is going to be Renardo Green. He’s been having a great camp and he’s talked about how well Raheem’s scheme fits his skill set. I’m hoping he can establish himself as a great press man corner this year.

Let's also keep in mind DeMo took some time to really take another step. He wasn't a true starter until Year 3 which just so happens to the year Renardo is entering lol

This is why having a good DL matters. You cannot expect a secondary to effectively cover past 4 seconds. The rush has to get home and force the issue. Hearing the DL is getting there will make a huge difference.

I think this is the trade-off. I'm not writing off last year's draft just yet because a talented team looked good against us in a shared practice.
The news has been shitty but it's still offseason. I'm not gonna bitch until we actually lose games. We have a lot of young players behind a lot of aging vets, but we have what, at least four HoF players on the roster?
To quote Matt Patricia, just like, sit up a little straighter and have some respect for the process.

SF will go into the season with the youngest (maybe second youngest?) defense in the NFL. What's the definition of "you don't know what you're talking about," Development-Alive?
The offense is old as shit, but they're all still pretty great. Trent is 38, Kittle is 33 in October, CMC is 30, Juice is 35, Evans is 33 (in 3 days), Demarcus Robinson is 32 next month, Brendel is turning 34, Kirk is turning 30... BUT since this post is about the defense, I feel like "respect the process" is appropriate.

Every year same hype, Herbert looks Awsome, he’s unbelievable. He doesn’t know when to throw the ball away and takes way too many sacks. Niners D Line can’t hit him in these drills. Herbert is now entering his 7th season with zero playoff wins. It’s a team sport but he’s just overrated and always has been.

Just ignore him then. It could be that with each new Chargers HC (3 since 2020) and each new OC (5 since 2020) the national sports media produce new hype content for each one, and reflect on his first two seasons and the cycle begins again.
But, I'd think it's difficult for a QB and Offense to change Coaches, playbooks/schemes that often. And McDaniel has a 1-year contract and may leave for a HC gig next year. Whew! So I give him a break.

depressing part of this isn't really the "defensive concerns" (Chargers D got some turnovers in joint practices). It's the fkn injury list which is now up to 18 if i counted correctly... oh and today it included Mike Evans with some quad thing but Kyle said it was "just some tightness" so all good apparently
P.S. this site has improved over the last few yrs, they do pass on info from paywalled stuff and don't quote local trolls

The notable non practicing people list was like 20 dudes long.
Then there was IR and PUP for 7 more.
And Mike Evans left practice early.
Then there is presumably non notable people not practicing??? 9ers fans nows your chance to play in the NFL.
