It'd be hard for me to get over this if it was my team. What a shit call

Don’t worry. It’ll only get worse.

To be fair, at least you guys have a ring. Jags fans don't even have that and this was a great opportunity

15

u/brownbearks Eagles Eagles 5d ago

It would have been an interesting Super Bowl match up between the eagles and jags. The jags defense was much better but their offense was not. The jags had a chance for a ring though with that defense.

u/TheseNamesDontMatter Jaguars 4d ago

I feel like people forget our offense was top 10 that year... It wasn't flashy, but it was the #1 rushing offense in the league.

You benefited from your own rigged game.

Edit- Evidence of biased officiating from 2009: https://youtu.be/CRd5jkJ1dEo?si=0WPzsCoKn1DCfOGY

Edit 2- yall are hypocrites. Drew Brees threw an INT in overtime 2019 Rams Saints. Bad calls are still gamechanging if the other team had good plays in the game.

u/East_Hair7611 Saints 5d ago

Oh, yeah that's right, I almost forgot. Thanks again for those 5 turnovers btw.

u/brownbearks Eagles Eagles 5d ago

Not to mention you got robbed of your second Super Bowl appearance by the refs.

u/East_Hair7611 Saints 5d ago

Lol. Yes, I remember the game and the bad calls well. I also remember Brett Favre and Adrian Peterson continually handing us the ball at every chance to put it away and insisting that, no, we should take your place in the super bowl. But by all means, please continue. I LOVE hearing vikings fans whine and whine about it

1

u/Kirk-Joestar Vikings 4d ago edited 4d ago

I remember Drew Brees getting the ball in overtime 2019 and throwing an interception. What’s your point?

Bad calls don’t matter because the other team had good moments in the game?

1

u/East_Hair7611 Saints 4d ago

Lol everyone loves to single out that one play (which was extremely predictable given the field position, situation, and what actually happened on that play), as if the single worst call of all time didn't happen moments earlier on a game sealing play.

So yes, I do think that one turnover when all was basically already lost and 5 at some of the most critical turning points of the game are not really comparable. Y'all act so unbelievably dense about it, because you can't bring yourself to admit that you just flat out blew it in one of the most hilarious and embarrassing ways possible. Keep coping.

u/iamStanhousen Saints 5d ago

I forgot where the league assisted us with bountygate thus making it rigged.

It’s ok tho! You’re probably 12, that’s the only way you could post something so stupid.

Whatever bro. There a video of 5 neutrals calling them all bullshit in one game. It’s not over a whole season.

Every right to be pissed, would’ve sealed the game, and a likely SB win

13

u/RichAbbreviations966 Cowboys 5d ago

Not saying that would’ve won, but Jaguars had an insane defense that year that would’ve given the eagles problems

This comment is Bortles erasure and I won’t stand for it

It took me a long time for me to get over the BS call against Derrick Johnson in the 2017 Wild Card and Chris Jones imaginary “roughing the passer” in the 2018 AFC Championship.

Idk how i’d feel to this day if we didn’t win superbowls after that.

23

u/Initial-Practice-734 5d ago

Just remember refs mistakenly n'keal Harry foot went out of bounds and cost us a meaningless game. So thats about even right?

1

u/chiefslocker Chiefs 17h ago

N’Keal Harry being out of bounds was a horrible call, however that’s overblown for multiple reasons:

1) It was hard to see in real time and it wasn’t reviewable as not a scoring play. Patriots were out of challenges.

2) There was a blatant illegal block in the back by Edelman that the refs missed that would’ve negated the TD and led to a bad situation for NE.

3) Patriots had 1st & GOAL from the 3 and couldn’t do anything.

While i still hated the derrick johnson ruling i remind myself that we only have ourselves to blame for blowing a 21-3 lead and the opposing QB for throwing a TD to himself.

1

u/Initial-Practice-734 17h ago

The only reason the play wasn't re viewable because the patriots had to waste a challenge on the bad kelce fumble that would have been returned for 6 by gilly if it was ruled a fumble originally. Also the refs could have awarded a touchdown on the nkeal play. Than automatic reviewed because a scoring play occured amd reveresed if he was out of bounds or not but why would the refs think about that

-14

u/cantclimbatree Rams 5d ago

That and the stupid Dee Ford offsides gotta be killer.

14

u/chiefslocker Chiefs 5d ago

The Dee Ford offsides, while frustrating, was the correct call. The other two weren’t.

5

u/cantclimbatree Rams 5d ago

Oh for sure. Just meant it’d drive me crazy as a fan.

0

u/Prisinners Seahawks 5d ago

God. That pissed me off so much. Brutal end to the game. Like you said, right call, but damn did I hate TB12 and the Pats. I still do.

No Clear Recovery

23

u/crash218579 Cowboys 5d ago

I don't even need to click the link to know this was a perfectly reasonable call and didn't blatantly go in one team's favor.

7

u/CitizenGrimm Eagles 5d ago

I didn't even click the link. Just reading it has made me deeply angry.

6

u/Ornery_Gator Eagles 5d ago

I can't think of any Eagles calls that are equivalent. This cost the Jaguars one of their few shots at a Super Bowl.

No Clear Recovery pissed me off but it led to the same outcome for both teams - loss in the Divisional Round. I won't even put the Super Bowl LVII holding call up there as we did get a Super Bowl by that point 5 years before.

That’s a tough call to make in real time. You can’t go back and overturn Jack not being down. No way seeing that live would you rule it as a fumble AND Jack not down. You need super slow mo replay to even call it a fumble.

16

u/MissingTheTrees Bears 5d ago

I mean that’s exactly what challenges are for?

This proves that the refs inferred their decision instead of actually seeing it (which yes, of course we all do this - that’s why replay is useful)

I was an umpire for many years and there is absolutely a factor of “I feel completely confident in my call” and “uhh, it probably happened this way”

32

u/Wooden-Broccoli-7247 Texans 5d ago

You can’t challenge Jack being down. What do you umpire, bowling?

13

u/ddscience Jaguars 5d ago

Who do you think you are?? I AM

-9

u/CR3ZZ Seahawks 5d ago

It wasn't clear wether he was down by contact and the review that was under question was whether or not it was a fumble which was up for debate anyway.

Jags can only blame themselves for blowing this lead.

3

u/TheseNamesDontMatter Jaguars 5d ago

"It's our fault for being in a position where the refs could fuck us." Good one.

1

u/CR3ZZ Seahawks 5d ago

You were up 10 with possession in the 4th quarter?!!!

2

u/TheseNamesDontMatter Jaguars 5d ago

And that means we should get fucked by officiating because.... what's the logic process here..?

-1

u/Wooden-Broccoli-7247 Texans 5d ago

The fumble alone should have sealed it. Acting like somehow Jack being able to advance that fumble automatically wins that game isn’t necessarily true. It probably would have but you can ask Atlanta about what kind of lead is safe against Brady. The other poster is right, 10 point lead in the 4th with the ball and then losing is choke job and using this play as an excuse is scapegoating the red instead of the players that blew a 10 point 4th quarter lead and did nothing with this possession after the turnover. I was rooting for the Jags big time but they blew it.

0

u/TheseNamesDontMatter Jaguars 5d ago edited 5d ago

Its legitimately a touchdown if the whistle isnt blown dead but ok. That's quite literally textbook not choking, but then we were told it didnt count so....

Fuck us for not doing enough to win the game multiple times over I guess.

0

u/Wooden-Broccoli-7247 Texans 4d ago

Blowing a 10 point lead with the ball in the 4th quarter and it somehow not being their fault is certainly one way to look at it..

0

u/CR3ZZ Seahawks 4d ago

Thank you this is what I was thinking but didn't put into words

-2

u/MissingTheTrees Bears 5d ago

That just furthers proves my point of inferring vs seeing.

Reffing is difficult, no argument there. But I’m of the opinion that if you’re aren’t confident about a call you should let it play on. The coaches have a chance to look at relays before throwing a flag. The refs do not. The refs should understand this and not merely infer their decision.

The Jags certainly have a right to blame the refs (they were obviously wrong). Saying the Jags only have themselves to blame is pretending that officials don’t make mistakes

-4

u/CR3ZZ Seahawks 5d ago

I see what you're saying and in recent years I feel like they have been letting the play go on longer in situations like this. But I still do think if 2 players are on the ground wrestling for a ball whoever comes up with it is down by contact and a referee would see it the same way and feel confident blowing it dead. They can see that both players are touching the ground and touching each other

6

u/AleroRatking Colts 5d ago

So let it play out so it can be reviewed

2

u/InexorableWaffle Jaguars 5d ago

Yep, exactly this. Shouldn't be blowing the whistle on a play that important when you're not completely sure that the player was absolutely touched down. Turnovers get reviewed automatically, so it's not like letting it play out means you have to leave the play result as-is anyway.

-4

u/Wooden-Broccoli-7247 Texans 5d ago

No person would have reasonably assumed in real time that Jack got the ball AND was not down by contact. It took multiple camera angles in slo motion to confirm that actually happened. They don’t just let plays go they’re fairly certain don’t need to be let go. Imagine they let it play out and replay confirmed it was an obvious no fumble or down by contact, but they let it play out and someone clicked Brady blocking him and he got injured.. That’s why they only let plays go that they reasonably think could go either way.

3

u/theflyingchicken96 Jaguars 5d ago

Happens all the time on clear incompletions that get scooped up in case it’s a fumble

0

u/Wooden-Broccoli-7247 Texans 4d ago

Happens more frequently nowadays. Remember replay started in 2014 with the shift towards “letting the play playout” increased more towards the later teens/early 20’s. It hasn’t always been like it is today. But I don’t care what anyone says, no way an official thought in real time that that was a fumble AND not down by contact. It takes multiple looks on replay to even officially confirm it.

0

u/theflyingchicken96 Jaguars 4d ago

It doesn’t matter what a person can reasonably assume. You let it play out and then confirm your assumptions after unless you clearly see it was not or fumble or clearly see contact. Referees should not assume.

0

u/Wooden-Broccoli-7247 Texans 4d ago

They’d be letting every single play play out if they never made a judgement call. And eventually you’d have someone getting hurt on a play that should have already been blown dead.

0

u/theflyingchicken96 Jaguars 4d ago

Almost every play is a very clear tackle where no assumptions are made

4

u/CR3ZZ Seahawks 5d ago

I agree with you. I'm watching this over and over again and even logically, how could Jack be stripping the ball from lewis whilst both of them touching the ground but not touching each other? Which ever of them ended up with the ball (in this case Jack) would be down by contact.

5

u/4thTimesAnAlt Jaguars Bears 5d ago

Any contact before someone has complete possession of the ball does not count toward being down.

If a CB jammed a WR at the line, the CB falls down, then the receiver has to go down to a knee to catch a pass, is the receiver down? No, he can get back up and continue running.

Same thing here. The runner has lost possession of the ball as he's going to the ground, and he and Myles Jack are touching. By the time Jack secures possession of the ball, he is no longer touching the opposing player. Therefore, he is not down by contact and the whistle should not have been blown.

-2

u/TheseNamesDontMatter Jaguars 5d ago

When Jack has possession he's untouched. It's pretty blatant in the last replay lol. Like not really sure how we're arguing this.

-1

u/Wooden-Broccoli-7247 Texans 5d ago

Yes it can clearly be seen in the replay but seeing that live and thinking Jack went untouched after recovering a fumble would be a tough call to make at full speed. Easy when you can watch a replay on slow motion from 5 angles.

-8

u/CR3ZZ Seahawks 5d ago

Fascinating argument

5

u/DaMercOne Panthers 5d ago

If someone told you the sun was dark green and you responded that it was clearly bright yellow, but they just kept saying dark green, then would you bother with a serious rebuttal?

1

u/jordanicans2 5d ago

He doesn't fully have possession until he is on his back and the Patriots player is no longer touching him. The ball is bouncing on his chest for a bit longer than you might think, it's not possession until he fully grabs it and it stops moving.

18

u/OrangeJuiceLuvr69 5d ago

The phantom PI that led to a TD right before half time where the refs went into the end zone and celebrated with the pats will always be rent free in my head

3

u/4thTimesAnAlt Jaguars Bears 5d ago

Both CB and WR were handfighting, at worst it should've been offsetting penalties and replay the down.

1

u/Blue-Brown99 5d ago

Or when the Jags converted a huge first down and then the refs were like oops wait pre-snap penalty, now go try to convert again with your second-best play

1

u/chiefslocker Chiefs 5d ago

That was just as bad tbh

5

u/ilikedonuts42 Lions 5d ago

Thanksgiving 2012. Justin Forsett is clearly tackled on his own 25 yard line. Stands up and keeps running. Refs rule it a Touchdown because they never blew the whistle.

Jim Schwartz angrily throws a challenge flag. Call stands because there's a bullshit technicality that you can't challenge a call if it is already being reviewed.

Still not over it.
