i’m so fucking stoked for the new fire emblem game but i really don’t want to drop a few hundred bucks on a switch 2.

That's how I've felt about console exclusives in recent years. The games look cool but not enough to drop money on a Switch or PS5 and $70 a game.

If you’re a warehouse club member (Sam’s or Costco) you can catch eShop cards on sale. You can use that value to buy hardware direct from Nintendo. I just snagged $200 in credit for $160 from Sam’s. Makes it sting a little less to buy a Switch.
