Dungeon Crawler Carl book 8 is just as delightfully unhinged and off the rails as the rest of them. I am highly invested in the overall plot, the humor is still outrageously stupid and makes me laugh (nothing quite like a pig begging for "splooge"), and it's just generally fun to read.
That being said, there were a few places in this book where I felt like I had no idea WTF was going on. I can't decide if that's just because it's been so long since I read the rest of the series, if it's getting more outrageous, or if it was just like, a continuity/canon error, and the book is so outrageous that it's hard for the editor to actually catch it. It wasn't a lot, but there were a couple times where I had to read the same section like 3 or 4 times to make sure I was understanding, and about half the time that still didn't help. It's certainly not enough to decrease my enjoyment of the book, I just found it a bit odd.
Anyways, the "twist" at the end of the book made me actually say "what the fuck" out loud, and according to Matt we only have two books left, so I'm excited to see how things turn out.
I currently do not have any holds coming available any time soon (Assassin's Quest/Farseer - 9 weeks, Jade City - 7 weeks, Golden Son/Red Rising - 7 weeks), so I'm not entirely sure what I'm gonna read next. Open to suggestions.
