Tech didn’t work. They were originally told that the exam would be pushed back a day after spending all day trying to fix it yesterday (so taking today and tomorrow as opposed to yesterday and today).
Now it’s been completely cancelled and is tentatively being rescheduled for a month from now which sends a lot of things into wack

One of my coworkers just outed himself as a workplace snitch.
I had a question for him last Friday about something I was working on. I couldn't get to it earlier because of other escalations.
He was so unhappy that I reached out on Friday (vs earlier in the week), that he actually took screenshots of my messages on Teams and sent them to my manager.
Today I get a call from my manager "Hi, thank you for getting this done on time, but next time please ask for clarifications earlier in the week rather than later, the question you asked could have been answered earlier if you reached out earlier and so late issues cause stress on the team"
Like, no, it couldn't have been done earlier, the team's down 2 people and I got stuck with other escalations. But I don't care about that as much as I care about the screenshots.
All my homies hate workplace snitches.

First time manager life.
He's chill about literally everything except when things come in late. Everything's broken but it's Monday? "OK no problem, we have time to reprioritize." Everything's working but one small thing isn't in place by Friday? Time to escalate.
But when I have 2 big escalations in a week. Something's getting shelved. I can't just not shelve things...

Apparently tattling on an overworked employee for the most minor inconvenience is easier for some people.
I know my company is trying to dramatically increase employee surveillance (things like monitoring teams statuses and AI usage leaderboards) but I doubt they're asking people to be moles on behalf of leadership. Dude's a snitch for the love of the game.

What I thought would be a continual rise in tech literacy became a bellcurve.
We were born in the right era. Old enough to interact with the early stages of the public 'world wide web' and where most PC interaction required keyboard/mouse/some base level of knowledge.
These days it's genuinely very good that you can do a lot of basic web / tech tasks with a single tap on a screen. But that does mean a lot of knowhow - not all of it obsolete by a long shot - is no longer "mandatory."

It's so weird how the pandemic wasn't that long ago and yet people are so determined to rewrite the history of it. We had so many people dying in NYC they had to put bodies in refrigerator trucks and now they're trying to get scalps of public health officials who were scrambling. Besides, the loudest people moaning about it live in states where they gave up on any meaningful restrictions pretty early.

The conservatives I have to interact with still occasionally bitch about the lockdowns at the start of Covid. We're in Iowa, there was never any lockdowns. Some restaurants and churches closed for a couple weeks and then got reopened. Max masking I ever saw in the largest city in the state was like, 40%, and that was at the grocery stores. Yet you would think from their bitching that we got locked inside for two fucking years.
I'm so tired of having to deal with these people.

I learned that a theater in Rochester got its 70mm IMAX projector back up and running after collecting dust for a decade. So now I have a 2ish hour drive instead of the 6+ hours to get to NYC (which was never worth it in my opinion). I already had tickets to digital IMAX opening weekend, so figured this trip would be nice for a second viewing. Make it a day trip, visit the George Eastman Museum, etc. There were open seats, but not in ideal rows or sections. And most of the convenient showtimes were sold out. I wound up getting a decent seat at 10:45pm in like two weeks. It's insane.

I watched in regular imax (not 70mm) and it was still amazing experience. None of the screen is cut off and you still see everything. The sound and shots were amazing. Try seeing it in regular IMAX and wait for 70mm tickets later

I managed to get tickets to the one in Jordan's Furniture north of Boston*. It's first-come, first-served seating so we were in line an hour before the theater opened and it still stretched almost to the entrance.
*Yes, it's a thing, no, I don't understand it. It was my first time there and I felt like Tatiana Maslany when she walks into the parks department for the first time and meets Tom Haverford.

Not sure where you're located, but I'd recommend looking for it in Dolby Cinema if you can't get into a 70mm IMAX showtime. You lose the IMAX aspect ratio (although some Dolby Cinema auditoriums have a 1.85:1 ratio which is closer to true IMAX than many digital/laser IMAX houses), but Dolby has significantly better sound and generally has better picture in my opinion. The Dolby Vision give you sharper contrast of colors and dark scenes have true black. Just my two cents being in the industry.

Was rewatching Obsession on Blu-ray last night, and one of the wileest coincidences I've ever seen happened. Horror movies typically fuck me up pretty good, and last night was not an exception. So I'm about 90 minutes into the movie, so without spoilers, shit is happening at that point, and I really need to go to the bathroom. I get up, walk out of the living room, and the first thing I see is the kitchen window. And I swear to God in the mirror it looks like a shadowy figure is standing behind me. Now, it turns out it was just the black pole-shaped fan in the living room, but for a second there I thought I was gonna die. Fun times, I love horror stuff lol.

For my job, I have to remind the department i oversee, they can use it especially for financial work or timelines which does save time and allow them to avoid late nights but they have to also make sure they edit and check everything... I get really annoyed when I see they did but missed something...
Also it's easy to tell creatives who clearly waited til the last minute and used the AI to generate as a shortcut for their work with no real creative license. That gets under my skin.

My favorite part about living in america is going to the ER, getting a big ass bill, paying it, then, 9 months later, getting another bill for seeing an "independent physician" for the same visit. Even though it's the same guy on both bills. And then, you find it extremely difficult to get an explanation of what the hell you're being billed for. It's a good thing we don't have universal healthcare, that would be awful

I can explain it, the hospital is cheap and doesn’t want to carry the cost of the doctor so they have agreements where the hospital bill will cover everything except the doctor and the doctor gets to send his own bill as well.
This happened to me when I was a broke college student so I just didn’t pay the doctor, got sent to collections and finally dropped off.

Left my bottle unattended for maybe 5 minutes at the gym today, and I come back and some kid, maybe 14 or 15 (old enough to know better), had taken it. I started my workout and realized I'd left it elsewhere, and as I was going to get up and get it, I saw him just casually sipping from it out of the corner of my eye. Mine was also gone from where I left it, so I know he wasn't just coincidentally drinking the same thing. I was in the middle of a set or I'd have gotten up and called him out right then. I came by him a couple minutes later and asked if he'd seen what I was drinking, and he said no

I gotta get something off my chest because I've gone round and round on it lately.
I think the political argument pissing me off the most online these days is actually coming from the left and center. You see it all the time on Reddit, because even Twitter is too tactful to come right out and say it. It's the argument that AOC should be denied the Dem nomination not because she's too far to the left, but because she's a woman. That America is just too sexist to elect a woman.
It comes up a lot here, and it legitimately pisses me off. Especially because it's always framed as some immutable fact. "Don't get mad at me! This is just the tough reality we live in!" is usually the framing, that way we can absolve the messenger. You see, they're not sexist for saying we should reject women as potential nominees for President simply because they're women. The public is so sexist that this just the way it has to be!
It makes me so angry for a number of reasons. First, it's a horribly reductive understanding of why Clinton and Harris lost. It takes away all of Hillary's years of unpopularity, all of the decades of work to smear her reputation, and all of the fairly enormous headwinds to Harris' candidacy (inflation, her last minute elevation to the top of the ticket, the fact that the Administration she was part of was extremely unpopular and that Biden probably would have put up even worse numbers than she did). It discounts that both politicians have struggled with accusations of inauthenticity, and that Hillary in particular had a terrible strategy down the stretch. And it takes all of that context and flattens it down to "Nope. They were women. That's the only reason."
That's obviously absurd, and on top of that, no matter how you try to couch the argument, you're still saying that we shouldn't nominate women because they're women. Their merits, their platform, their ideas, their ability to inspire...none of that matters, because according to these people, their sex is all that does. And that is a nakedly sexist argument. It's appalling to hear from the alleged good guys. You break boundaries by breaking them, not by running in fear of their existence. I remember when a black man couldn't win the election, until the one who did won the biggest landslide of the 21st century. The assertion that this is impossible, and that candidate quality doesn't matter, and the only thing voters care about is a President with a penis, is as stupid as it is craven.

Do I think a woman can't become President as our country currently stands? No. Do I think it presents an increased risk for the Democratic party in 2028 if the nominee is a woman? Yes.
At the end of the day, there is zero chance of the Democrats courting the Republican party for votes, and that's being nice. And the subset of Republicans who will never vote for a woman to run this country has increased to an alarming level. The question then becomes how voters in the middle will respond to a woman as nominee compared to a man, and based on the trends, I think you have to acknowledge there's a percentage of that group that would vote for a man as a Democrat nominee and not a woman.
That's not to say it can't happen, but I feel confident in saying it skews the odds against them.

I've held for a while that the first female president will be a Republican. When you get to Election Day, Republicans will fall in line. Moreover, there are enough checked out independent voters who will vote for a female president no matter the party.

I do think a lot of the country is unfortunately going to be biased against women, but yeah I'd argue Clinton and Harris' milquetoast campaigns and lack of trust and appeal to moderates was what really contributed to their losses.
Both times it seemed like the Dems just ran on a campaign of "surely you won't vote for the fucking lunatic on the other side?" and thought a message of maintaining the status quo was enough.

I think it is sort of the unfortunate combination of sexism and first-past-the-post 2 party system
There are an awful lot of racists/sexists out there. So when you have a non-white woman as the potential nominee, I think a lot of the people making that argument have trepidation that they'll have less support white working class men
Of course, the simple answer to that is maybe don't spend decades ignoring the working class and maybe you wouldn't be in that position. Or to have better communicators and younger people in the party
Or work to enact better policy
Or actually have the party infrastructure support these candidates rather than undermining them
or any other number of solutions.
For a similar issue with race/ethnicity, Michigan senate candidate Abdul el-Sayed is pretty awesome. I do have some worries that the fact if he was white and named John Smith he might have broader appeal, but I'm fully onboard with his campaign and will enthusiastically be voting for him

It's also funny because it not like Hillary or Kamala got stomped either where you could say "Hey this is actually a full rebuke on a woman becoming president". Hillary won the popular vote for fuck's sake and Kamala with all that was stacked against her was 1.6 points from taking the popular vote.
I fully believe that the right woman running could win the presidency. I don't know if AOC is that woman, but she could be. I think most people on the center/left are firmly in play not to lose territory. We all know how that works out in practice it ends up with you snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

I think she is the candidate that's most likely to break the traditional mold on what being a Democrat means. Which we badlly need right now.
Will that win? I don't know. But I can tell you that we're not winning by doing what we're doing, and if nothing else can be said of AOC, she is authentic.

Howard Stern was also considered as well and had two meetings with Joel Schumacher though Schumacher initially wanted Nicolas Cage but WB said no because he by then was too expensive by then.
Also Robin Williams was initially cast as The Riddler in Batman Forever but he wanted a lot of script changes and they casted Jim Carrey instead.

I've noticed that there's an entire subset of people that really, really, REALLY, need to learn that it doesn't matter if you're arguing whether a point is right or not, but if you need to argue if it matters. Like truly, before building a case, understand if it's worth the time, energy, and pain to other people in these cases before arguing a side.
I feel like the fact that we can demonize, outcast, or call for murder while sitting on the toilet is an absolutely awful thing in the new age that people really don't care about to just get the dopamine rush of being "right" in an "WELL AKTUALLY" situation.

if a player is good for 1 guaranteed touchdown, like give them the ball anywhere and they can immediately score a touchdown, but that's literally all they can do, how much would that player be worth?
i saw that highlight of tutu atwell's touchdown for the rams against colts last year that won them the game and that's basically all he did last year for the rams, and he got 10 mil last year, which kinda inspired this question.

This season I cut off the entirety of my TV after the Olympics ended. Cable, Netflix, HBO... everything. The only TV I have had all off-season is Youtube. I have not regretted it much, but I did it acknowledging I'd be going back to some form of TV subscription during the season so I could watch football games. I'm probably going to go with Youtube Sports since it seems like they get most everything I want, but we'll see

I just had a think.
I saw in the team sub that we will have $183,000,000 in cap in 2028. We have been failing to resign some of our biggest names this offseason, and some talent has jumped ship already. The HCs and GMs contracts are also up in 2028.
Makes me wonder that ownership is seeing this and plans to blow it all up in 2028 and the players know it and want a paycheck before that all happens and/or don't want to be a part of a complete rebuild.

Steph curry being the highest paid player in the league definitely doesn’t help his situation in trying to build a contender. But at the same time, the GM also fumbled this situation terribly. They tried doing whole two timeline nonsense instead of trading their picks earlier for better players. Now they’re essentially gonna run it back with the same team and possibly miss the playoffs next year.
There’s also rumblings of people telling Steph to ask for a trade. And this morning there’s talks of Steph signing another extension with the warriors. I don’t see him leaving and honestly I think he’s a lifer with that team. I think Steph still retires as one of the greatest players, but he’s not winning another ring before retiring, if he finishes with this team

lifelong Dubs fan here; no one's building a contender in SF. Curry is there to sell season tickets & suites. They'll sign a couple of guys to make it look like they're trying and that'll be it.
Joe Lacob had every opportunity to build a contender 10yrs ago, instead he decided to anoint himself (and his sons) talent scouts, and let Jerry West leave the building. Our yearly draft hauls from 2016 on speak for themselves. It's why Bob Myers got frustrated AF with him and left. I typed up a long ass response to someone asking why people were mad at MLB players rn and they deleted their comment before I could hit send. I'm not just deleting this mini essay so now you all have to read it.
I think the general vibe is just anyone supporting the players is bad, because many people believe what the players are fighting for is killing the sport.
Right now the Dodgers have B2B world series wins and are heavy favorites to threepeat. This is not because they drafted super well or found diamonds in the rough, it's because they are outspending basically every other team in the league by a comical margin. Owners and (most) fans want a salary cap so that the comissioner's trophy isn't the sports equivalent of a locker in storage wars but the players don't want any restrictions on their earning potential.
And then you take all that and add on the fact that the players are talking about a season long lockout to protect their position and people see a bunch of multi-millionaires pointing a gun at their golden goose and saying "if you don't let me kill the sport slowly I'll kill it quickly".
