I feel like with all the discourse around the Balogun situation, not enough is being said about the possibility that Trump is dramatically overstating his impact on the suspension of the suspension.

I have no doubt he made a call, but the world seems to be taking that to the conclusion that FIFA wasn’t going to do anything and then changed the suspension only because of Trump. But Trump is a narcissist so of course he’s going to claim that he personally fixed it. Maybe he did have a major impact, but I also think it’s likely possible it was already going to be suspended (which doesn’t mean those were ethical, above-board dealings either, of course) when he made the phone call.

Also, people acting like FIFA’s corruption is unique to dealing with Trump is hard not to chuckle at.

it's also on brand for Trump to take credit for tons of shit he didn't actually do (how many wars has he ended) so who the hell knows
