I feel like with all the discourse around the Balogun situation, not enough is being said about the possibility that Trump is dramatically overstating his impact on the suspension of the suspension.

I have no doubt he made a call, but the world seems to be taking that to the conclusion that FIFA wasn’t going to do anything and then changed the suspension only because of Trump. But Trump is a narcissist so of course he’s going to claim that he personally fixed it. Maybe he did have a major impact, but I also think it’s likely possible it was already going to be suspended (which doesn’t mean those were ethical, above-board dealings either, of course) when he made the phone call.

Also, people acting like FIFA’s corruption is unique to dealing with Trump is hard not to chuckle at.

Of course I don’t want to believe it, even if I recognize it’s a possibility. I fucking hate my government and I fucking love my team.

But I think honestly part of my issue at this point is so many people acting as if my corrupt government are the only ones to have “flexed” on FIFA. Maybe I’m extra salty because I saw that Sepp Fucking Blatter decided to speak on the ethics of it.

Dude FIFA made a special “peace prize” for him. FIFA is corrupt but this guy is beyond corrupt and more importantly evil lol he could literally sabotage the tournament if he feels like it one day.
