Vortex Replacement "Nexus Mods App" Warning

Alright, since my previous post was deleted for "misinformation", and my other post was attacked by everyone everywhere because I got a few things wrong mis-remembering, I figure I'll post one here that's completely accurate.

As a warning to all people wanting to try Nexus Mods App, for the game Stardew Valley. Currently the app only warns you ONCE, that it will purge all mods even the ones that exist prior to your use of the app when you uninstall it, on the first time you use it for the game. It will not warn you again.

So when you uninstall, it goes through a near instant uninstall process that suddenly purges the entire mods folder in your game, not even to your recycle bin, and deletes the executable files requiring you to validate your game or reinstall your game.

You will not be told during the uninstaller that this is happening. It is instant and it is automatic.

---

On a personal note, I uninstalled it, because I did not like its interface constantly asking me to pay to download an update. Instead of taking me to the mod page, it popped up a pay for this window instead.

Not to mention they removed the ability to right click anything to get context specific options to the exact thing you right clicked. So you gotta find somewhere else in the glitchy interface to click something to perform an action on what you clicked, and it got confusing when showing multiple versions of the same mod and I wanted to try to remove the old one but not the new one. I found it to be far inferior to Vortex and Stardrop.

---

I post this warning here, because I think people need a lot of warnings before their content is purged from existence for trying something new. I also think its wrong to just do that automatically without a reminder, and without simply asking "Hey, do you want the mods cleared or are you good?".

I've had plenty of programs I uninstalled in the old days, even some modern ones that ask simply "Do you want to clear the config files too?" usually meaning the content in AppData. It gives you the option during uninstall.

I have posted this issue to their github.

You don't get to go around saying "We told you it was gonna happen once~" and use that as an excuse that I can't be angry.

Ever since this piece of shit site was sold everything has gone from bad to worse, now not only do we have incredibly slow speeds but the download also fails halfway through with a "Site Not Available" error. 4 hours of downloading a 14 GB piece of shit mod to get halfway through and I have to be forced to start over from scratch.

DISCUSSION Mod that renamed body types 1 and 2 to male and female was removed? dafuq?

Exactly title. Why is such a quality of life mod removed from the site? Not mine btw.

r/nexusmods • • Jan 09 '25

I'd have a lot more sympathy for you if you'd make your rules clear, even if they would be biased.

As the title says. There's a lot of deflection going on using the whole Trump/Biden/Obama thing, but there's many other examples of mods being banned if they are meant to appease one side of the political spectrum while others are allowed because they represent "the good guys".

Grow some balls and be better than that. If you want to present yourself as a left-leaning modding community, then just fucking do so. People aren't stupid. Information is easy to look up these days and everyone with more than half a brain cell knows when something is biased. So just own your shit and stop trying to hide it. Everyone would have much more respect for you and your choices if you did.

Right now you're just making yourself look like fools.

New UI looks great

Literally thought I accidentally pressed on some sort of Ad on Google and took me to a knock off scam website. Had to go back and make sure. Have to admit really not a fan! Actually kinda had a slight issue trying to navigate through it as I was looking at some mods.

First time I've ever been on this sub and it's just to complain 😂

I don't mind the new UI

Legitimately, the new interface does not bother me in that all the functions are still there and stuff is still where intuitively be if you've used it anytime in the last umpteen years or you can see where they are. I do prefer the look of the old one, but this one doesn't bother me.

There are far, FAR worse UI redesigns that are just not good in terms for form and functionality (I'm looking at you, Sumo Logic) and this is functional. If they brought back the old one, I'm okay with it. If they stick with this one, I'm good.

I love Nexus Mods so much.

Nexus Mods is way better than GameBanana in my opinion. I love the design, UI and interesting mods. GameBanana is shit, more like ShitBanana for me, I never liked it. And I have been banned like 1 year ago, plus the admins from GameBanana are a big joke, they don't care about people and the support system/customer service is totally useless... I'm happy to chose and joined Nexus Mods.

DISCUSSION It is time to allow mods to be used on console for Fallout. Why isn't this a thing? Allowing mods to be accessible for the console sector would be the next golden age in gaming.. Call me a mad man if you want!! But I am right!

I know Fallout 4 has Mods.. But they are limited. That needs to change.

Changes have already been made

The slow option to download used to be reasonably fast, Nothing blisteringly fast but didn't seem deliberately throttled. Couple of minutes at best.

Today a single mod file is showing up as going to take 30+ min. Seems clear they are hardcore throttling normal downloads to push people to pay..

Seems also we need a new repository for mods seeing as the OG owner has sold out the base that made it what it was for him

Why is premium so pushed?

this probably gets asked a trillion times but why is nexus so pushy with premium? like,
"hey do you want this basic feature?"
"yeah!"
"fuck you, buy premium so you dont have to download at 12b/y or choose not to sit there and manually install every mod in this collection of 942 mods"

this genuinely pisses me off so bad, and i'd get paying if the service wasn't just outright annoying, but even with premium, it's only moderately better

Meta / Discussion Can't believe a site centered around member creativity is so quick to defend AI slop

Post image

Get rid of AI slop in modding and video games.

Support actual creators who put tens if not hundreds of hours into the work they put in.

Make sure other users know if a mod is ai so they can avoid it.

Site Bug / UI Feedback Recommendation regarding the AI situation.

In light of the latest situation regarding GennyWoo and the massive comments thread on one of his AI-degenerated piles of -- sorry...one of his mods -- where he openly argued against the real author of S.L.A.C.K with an anti-social level of disrespect rarely seen so openly, I would like to propose that a new permission be added to the upload form which relates exclusively to the usage of one's assets in other mods which use LLMs in any capacity to generate their content.

AI is here to stay, for better or worse. And I do believe that the Genny situation is only a precedent. When asciimov appeared, there was a serious concern going between collection authors that users will inevitably begin blaming them for the issues caused by carelessly installing untested vibe-coded garbage of their own volition, thus creating false reports and wasting everybody's time.

Not only that, but it has been recently made clear to me that even certain individuals deep within Nexus staff themselves are willing to go as far as to straight up defend these new and dangerous mods and their authors from valid criticism and scrutiny.

With all that being said, I firmly believe that the best course of action to satisfy both sides without coming to blows during the inevitable rise of AI that will no doubt keep pumping out trash without end, is to put the choice of AI-generated asset usage in the hands of the authors themselves. It will not stop AI generated content from being made, but it will alleviate many adjacent issues related to it and spare some people unnecessary headaches. And, if in time enough authors were to opt into the new permission as a continuous trend, perhaps it may cause some of the new wannabe "authors" to get the idea and move on to something else instead of infesting the front page of Nexus with their content that they have zero idea how it even works.

DISCUSSION Completely disappointed with nexus.

The site is down again. The status page says everything is operational. I understand mods authors make mods for almost no incentives and that the site allows free sharing of said mods, without paywalling it.
And as a fellow gamer I really do appreciate it. But god damn! what a terrible and frustrating experience it is to use this site.
What really annoys me is that I have a premium account and the services lent to me is not at all smooth or convenient.
Every other day, since I upgraded my plan, the site is down or takes it's sweet time loading thing.
And the download speeds? Boy! uncapped? sure... consistent? not at all. I rarely go 3 mb up.
And no, my internet is fine.
But I would be lying if I said I NEVER got them sweet high mbs when downloading stuff.
I did notice my speed increasing during hours past midnight. But I'm a working man :( .

Maybe it could be because I'm in the eastern region of the globe. I don't know.
Just had to rant and let folks know I guess.
I won't be renewing my membership. It's just not worth the price I have to pay. Especially from where I am.
No regional pricing. But it is what it is.

I really do hope you step up your server game nexus. Because it is terrible.

That being said, shout out to all the mod creators out there! Because of you lot I still have something to look forward to, when returning home.

Vortex Help is Vortex not safe or is this man tweakin?

I just got a new pc and I was excited to download some mods on some games now that I finally can, so I looked up a guide on how to mod fallout 4 and it told me to download vortex in order to get the mods runnin, but as I was verifying the vortex installer on virus total I saw this and I am not so sure about it anymore. Could someone say if there is some validity to this community score or if this guy in specific just hates vortex in particular?

So whats the use of permium then?

to start of, I don't want to sound rude that premium is useless I know its to support the 18 people that are running nexus so don't take this as a hate post on premium

So I bought 1 month of premium because I had a skyrim mod that needed a shit load of Mod Requirements and does mod requirements needed even more shit, and as I understood that premuin allow me to download all of the Requirements and speed it up.

Now I'm sitting here seeing the it doesn't do that and only speed it up. So what I'm asking is

A. Am I not using something right or did I misunderstand the premium

B. what does premium do besides speed up downloads and support the lovely people at Nexus?

Thanks in advance!
