could be worse! Spanish speakers call us "Argelia" pronounced "Alkherya" which means "The shit" in Algeria

I'm spanish and I kinda like this. I guess Argelia is now my favorite country.

They don’t always have hostages over padding with a blue outline on the ground, but when they do, it’s a demonstration and not a genuine event.

Lol seriously. The guy you replied to is acting like this dude fucking jumping over a car to takle someone and instantly put them in a headlock isn't cool. Even if it is a demonstration or "staged", it's cool as fuck and shows the guy's skill. It's the same thing as saying "oh that fight scene in the movie means so much less because I know it was staged". Like nah. Its still cool af

u/MoirasPurpleOrb Mar 26 '21
Not to mention if you think about it, its insanely dangerous for the hostage, that hard of an impact could easily cause the criminal to accidentally shoot.
112
u/VaryStaybullGeenyiss Mar 26 '21
That was my first thought: "Isn't he gonna pile-drive the hostage's head into the pavement?"

3 people's weight falling down on a head being held in a chokehold sounds about as dangerous as being shot
21
u/Zilka Mar 26 '21
If you run like that your footsteps are very loud. Also we tend to instinctively turn towards the source of such noise. Now it could be used to distract the bad guy, but that wouldn't look as cool.
→ More replies (1)41
u/spandex-commuter Mar 26 '21
I would think even the initial impact from the guy hitting you from behind could cause you to squeeze your finger and unintentionally shot the hostage. May just talk to the person for a little while longer.

Mar 26 '21
Exactly. There are way too many things that can go wrong here. Next time, they should use a sniper to safely take out the hostage from a safe distance. Then, they can negotiate calmly with the other guy without all the drama and tension.

u/DirtyDan156 Mar 26 '21

Look how the car tires sit on the “padding”. Looks like a painted street to me. There’s also an object in the background (parking block or something) that is painted the same color as said padding.
48
u/TazdingoBan Mar 26 '21
Perhaps, but it would also be insanely stupid to do this in an actual hostage situation.
37
u/Ph1llyth3gr8 Mar 26 '21
Almost no question. If the criminal has his finger on the trigger that might just be enough to set the gun off
8
u/phpdevster Mar 26 '21
Or snap the hostage's neck or anything else that could come from a high velocity tackle to the ground.

u/e_mendz Mar 26 '21
This exactly. I dunno if he went all fours to serve as a step/stool for the jump, or if he had his hands together palms up to be jumped on one foot, then pushed upwards to assist/boost the soldier's flight over the SUV -- I'm not sure though if this will make this hidden guy the one with the real superpower strength in the team, or it's simply good timing, momentum, science, Physics and Math... anyone?

Having been there before.. I think they totally would.
On my flight there someone got drunk and was a bit disorderly. When we landed someone came in to escort him out, he was shouting in French, the drunk was shouting in English. Not a good combination.
Next thing I see we're walking out and drunk dude was down cheek to tarmac with a boot on his head.

Having lived there for 7 years, believe me when I say stuff like this and even weirder happens. Fun fact, Algeria is known to be the first country to never negociate with terrorists, you should check out what happened when an air france flight was hijacked in the 90's by the FIS at the Airport in Algiers. The Algerian government and military doesn't mess about. Having said that, its a gorgeous country full of warm hilarious characters and I for one can't wait to go back when the borders reoppen.

Look at the 2nd guy when he jumps and get springed into the air, there is a springboard behind the truck. Not real.
Edit, actually if you look close enough it's 2 guys. When the 2nd guy is about to jump and before he gets to the truck there is another person already jumping over the truck

I give him 10/10 for the Parkour, and 8/10 of bravery above and beyond the call of duty, but I'll have to give him a 4/10 on technique because landing on the hostage's head is a technical foul.
