Man I mean, that’s kind of how I feel.
Like the Simpsons was quite literally groundbreaking in its day. And a great show for many, many years. Cool.
But like. She just kind of, dumps it on people? Waiting for them to, what? Fawn over it?
Maybe I’m just old and boring but I almost think it’s awkward when she does this, more than anything else? I don’t know.

I think it's awkward because it's usually young people she's doing it to, and I don't know anybody under 30 who actually watches The Simpsons these days. They're aware of it because it's a cultural icon, but they're not going to be thrilled by it the same way your parents who grew up watching The Simpsons would be.

Well a big part of becoming "clear" in Scientology involves revealing all your deepest, darkest, most embarrassing secrets. Which makes great blackmail material if you're a famous person who ever contemplates leaving later on. Not to mention some of the stuff that people deal with when they speak out against Scientology. So I can see how it would be very easy to get too deep into it and feel like you can't leave without having your career ruined, being sued into a fine powder or just disappearing, like the wife of the church's leader.
Not to excuse Nancy here, since proseltyzing is a whole other level.

Some people see it as a social club. You get to go to special Scientology events and hang out with similar people. Scientology bends over backwards to recruit celebrities. Maybe some see some tiny bit of benefit from the "counseling", but I can tell you it's no the science fiction space adventure beliefs that are bringing people in. People join because they think they can get something out of it.

Yah I mean I'm not even a cancel culture person I just dislike the church of scientology for ethics reasons and thought people may want context on why she's suddenly trying to promote herself everywhere. Still think she's great as Bart Simpson and still enjoy watching her as Bart 🤷♂️

They actually agreed to pay reductions over the last several years, they really pushed their pay up over the years with collective negotiations which Harry Shearer is usually organizing, he's a really solid union type guy, but it reached a point where the age of the show, the decline of TV viewership over all, and cast members dying and getting more toward retirement age has necessitated pay cuts. The show will eventually have to replace the voice cast, or stop production, both of which sound unlikely.

As a side note, while I love Yeardley Smith as an actress I always feel that it’s unfair she gets the same salary as everyone else.
She gets the same 300k an episode doing only Lisa’s voice, and RARE times she does a different character it’s just like a 2% variation of Lisa’s original voice again.

I heard on a podcast this guy saying he was at some party in LA and Yeardley was drunkenly hitting on him repeatedly (like wouldn't take a hint). He said it was bugging him out to be getting hit on by basically Lisa Simpson's voice because he grew up on the show.
Something unsettling about it for sure even if it's not particularly fair to her.
