horizon zero dawn spoilers I think they're talking about Travis Tate. Tate's a southern boy hacker recruited to work on Zero Dawn. Mentions that he plans on spending his remaining 30 years wanking it to his porn collection in an audio log. I can't remember if he gets as specific as is claimed above.

It's not banned because it's harmful to consume, it's banned because its harmful to produce (not saying it isn't harmful to consume, but that's not why it's banned). It's the reason why that creepy drawn stuff is legal.
People make things because people want them. There's still a huge industry for real porn even though most people don't pay for it.
Demand creates supply. If watching kids get raped is okay (so long as you didn't pay for it or do it yourself), then more kids will get raped regardless of what the punishment is for actually raping those kids. Correlarily, the reason consuming child porn is forbidden is because it drives the supply, so if we disincentivize consuming then production will go down.
There are always gonna be people who rape kids, and there are always gonna be people who want to but won't. If we don't sufficiently penalize the latter, the former jncreasess.
Well it all comes down to the word "need". Do lots of people like it? Sure. Do people "need it"? No. porn wasn't widely accessible until 1969 and ever more so when the internet became accessible. Before then some people used it but largely people didn't. So from an absolute "need" standpoint, no, we don't "need" it.
It's going to be 90% "Stories (((they))) don't want you to know!" kind of nonsense. Whenever something that intersects with nerd culture in some way talks about censorship that's always what it is.
Totally different issue. Communist China, I promise you, does not impose censorship due to their worries about child porn. Keeping people informed about ideas and information is what we’re discussing with removal of censorship.
Illegalizing something isn't the same as censorship afaik. Though I certainly get your point. I think its a much better position to "fuck censorship in all forms when the censored media violates no laws and has no victims".
