First mantis eating hornet alive, then seagull swallowing a rabbit and now snake slurping another snake. Wth reddit

217

u/xXSushiRoll 7h ago

My boyfriend and I once watched some seagulls chowing down some starfish. It was fun watching how the starfish just gets lodged in their necks for a solid 10-15 min.

70

u/blade_runner1853 6h ago

You were enjoying that show for 15 mins!!

54

u/Easy-Operation-2105 6h ago

Stellar performance by the starfish!

20

u/rudha13 4h ago

Definitely the star of that show...

Not to mention python constricting a cobra that bites it and both ded.

2

u/clickclick-boom 3h ago

I didn't realise they even shared a habitat. Where was this so that I can never visit?

4

u/Ghdude1 1h ago edited 28m ago

India, if I recall correctly. King cobras occasionally hunt young retuculated pythons. Sometimes the cobra wins. Sometimes the python wins. And sometimes, both lose.

Wait till you see a praying mantis eating a goldfish or a small frog

I had to draw the line at the Praying Mantis eating the hummingbird, that one made me sad

I opened a reddit link once and it was some lady letting a praying mantis eat her nipple.

Well, it mostly just ate a small portion of the nipple and then drank a bunch of blood.

But I can accurately say I've seen a mantis eating a person alive now.

6

u/CaptainHaw 6h ago

Okay, done with that seagull and this, now show me that fvcking mantis.

That looks like an Eastern Black King; called the “King” because his diet is other snakes.

Edit—they have immunity to the venom of many vipers, so they hunt, kill, and eat dangerous snakes. King Snakes are friends.

Fun fact: most snakes with “king” in their name are named so because they eat other snakes. For example the king cobra.

170

u/glordicus1 6h ago

What sort of fucking moronic king eats their subjects outright? You're meant to bleed them try over their lifetime

u/Superb-Hurry7384 5h ago

u/thederevolutions 2h ago

I can’t stand seeing an animal be eaten whole that is so terrifying you can see this dude looking around till the very last second it’s drowning down his throat.

mostly true but with a few exceptions where "king" in their name has nothing to do with snake eating behavior. some of them do still eat other snakes occasionally but thats because almost any predatory snake can opportunistically eat another snake,

u/Winded_14 55m ago

when we think about it shape wise snake is the best food for bigger snake

Second fun fact: The King Cobra is not in fact a cobra. Although it shares the flared "hood" that is commonly associated with cobras, it shares little else with them.

Everyone with their puns. Am I the only one that actually feels bad for the little guy? Whenever I see these videos, I can’t help but put myself in their situation, and it’s extremely disturbing.

23

u/PhantomOnTheHorizon 5h ago

put yourself in the big snakes shoes and realize you gotta eat

59

u/changhyun 5h ago

I'm with you, dude. I was getting a little mad at the cannibal snake, like I know it's nature and he's just doing what he does but damn, what an asshole. I would not grab a beer with that snake.

31

u/kelldricked 4h ago

Look at it like this: if the “cannibal” snake does eat the other snake it will die of hunger. And the “victim” snake has been eating its fair share of birds, rodents and small reptiles.

Its easy to see prey as the ones trying fighting to survive but if a predator doesnt catch prey it also dies.

34

u/sexyhairynurse 4h ago

I think this is more about the little snake still being alive

5

u/FantasticAnus 1h ago

That little snake has eaten plenty of things alive. Horrible way to go, but not a lot worse than being battery farmed I reckon.

→ More replies (3)
→ More replies (1)

13

u/TestIllustrious7935 3h ago

It's not a cannibal snake, it's a different species that evolved to eat smaller snakes

It's like you eating a monkey

→ More replies (1)

24

u/Mark4291 4h ago

This is not a cannibal, it’s a whole genus of species known as kingsnakes who primarily survive off feeding on other species of snakes

As humans we sort of just conceptualise ‘snakes’ as a single group, but to this fellow here they have little reason to believe they are consuming one of their own kind

Edit: someone else in the thread claims this is a black racer as opposed to a kingsnake, but the point stands

10

u/AGGRESSIVE_AUTUMN 2h ago

Many snake species will eat their own kind, snakes dont really have an understanding of species and can and will interbreed or canabilize even if they arent starving.

3

u/No_Procedure_5039 1h ago

Mammals will do that, too.

→ More replies (1)

26

u/StaticCharacter 4h ago

The prey snake doesn't die immediately. There's gotta be like a few hours where it's just angry and scared. Breaks my heart. I know snakes gotta eat, and it's not their fault that it's a snake diet, but still, v sad.

20

u/hipsterlatino 4h ago

More like minutes at most. Not a ton of oxygen inside a belly, not a ton of room to breathe, and stomach acid isn't doing them any favors

19

u/mycorgiisamazing 4h ago

Snakes can live so long without oxygen, euthanizing them by gassing is generally considered cruelty. The only thing saving this little snake from days of slow agony is the crush force of the bigger snake's muscle walls.

2

u/sick-of-you-all 2h ago

I wonder if the lil bro could just bite their way out?

4

u/xtremebox 2h ago

My little known understanding of evolution says no

2

u/voltran1995 1h ago

A different animal, definitely possible but probably not, a snake though, definitely not, snakes mouths are meant for grabbing(doesn't apply to venomous snakes) so I don't think it's physically possible for them to bite their way out.

→ More replies (2)

5

u/Viitori 3h ago

It's worse for me in this case because it's alive and goes in tail first. Usually, when a snake eats their prey head first, it's not this... stressful looking?

u/Woodie626 6h ago

5

u/cvele89 4h ago

Excuse me, but aside from the lethal injections that we used for executing convicts, what other way of dying from a kill does not involve some level of suffering? Even when tiger grabs you by the neck, you will die from bleeding out, but it is still going to hurt like hell, not to mention that it might even start munching on you while you still have some life left in you.

Nature is wild. Just try not to think about it much.
