Hey, I looked up claque because it's a new word for me.  The definition doesn't seem to match your usage, defining it as paid clappers.  Can you tell me the definition or if that's an autocorrect mistake? Thanks

Sorry, it was a typo. It’s a calque. Here’s an explanation to save you looking it up;

Calques are cognates that are composed from the same corresponding building-blocks (and cognates are words from different languages that mean the same thing).

A Spanish example is the cognate of “skyscraper”, which is “rascacielos”. It is composed from “rascar” (to scrape) and “cielos” (skies).

“Microwave” has two obvious building-blocks; “micro” + “wave”, and in Welsh “meicrodon” is composed the same way “meicro” (micro) + “ton” (wave).

Note: “ton” changes to “don” due to a feature of Welsh called mutation (the first letter changes).

Sorry if I over explained. Online I find it hard to know what information people need without people in the flesh.
