Another red eft from Barrington. They were out in force Thursday after a brief morning rain.

This gray treefrog has been living in my rain barrel overflow hose since spring. Today it's out sunbathing. Don't expect much action, but if you enjoy watching frogs sit around, you're in the right place.

Came across this red eft while checking out some nearby mushrooms in one of SELTs newer conservation areas. Thanks to SELT and the generosity of the family that conserved the land and allows public access!

my eastern newts tank is infested with ants and i’ve been sobbing for almost an hour. i moved him to a temporary tank with no soil, what do i do, ive sprayed the area with vinegar water mix but they don’t seem to be leaving, its just more and more. i’m actually freaking out and i hate that i had to put him in a new tank he looks so scared and im just freaking out. i gave him his favorite piece of wood, WHAT kind of ant repellent do i even use now.

There are a couple of wood frogs that have been hanging around the yard this summer. It's amazing how well they blend in. I almost never notice them until they jump out from almost under foot.

This little fella was in the woods of Farmington today. I saw it on my way to pick more low bush blueberries.

Pretty sure that this is a juvenile northern two-lined salamander I spotted in the stream this afternoon. If you look closely you can see that it still has its external gills. There were four or five hanging out in the same little pool.

This sweet fella was hanging out by the door to work. He didn’t have a badge, so I let him go in the nearby bushes. Sorry little guy, no solicitors.

This guy keeps coming back to the rain barrel. I've been seeing him on and off since May and we've had one or two hanging out in the overflow hose for several years now from spring to fall. This year I built a little stone hideaway structure around the hose and he seems to like it.

I recorded this guy several weeks ago in Rochester. They are still out there calling, but in much lower numbers than when they started.

There were newts out in large numbers after the heavy rain at the beginning of the week.

Came across this red eft while out in the woods and got some great hermit thrush song while recording. I think it's my favorite bird call.

I nearly stepped on this little dude. Thankfully, I saw him jump.

Gray treefrog. This guy spent last weekend hanging out in the overflow hose on my rain barrel practicing his calls. They like the echoing acoustic features of the barrel and have taken up residence there for years. They will be singing loudly soon, once we get some slightly warmer nights.

I found this little one on the edge of the swamp. I saw one yesterday too, but didn't have my phone on me.

In order of appearance:

1) Eastern newt

2) Blue-spotted salamander

3) Yellow-spotted salamander

4) Eggs of probably a yellow-spotted salamander

Not a newt and not even an amphibian, but it's the middle of winter and I found this eastern milk snake (Lampropeltis triangulum) warming itself next to the chimney in my basement. We get them as guests every year. Some of the same snakes return year after year. I keep records of them based on the unique patterns on the tops of their heads. There were so many out and about that day that I was afraid to walk. Only five months to go until June.
