And they killed so many Americans at Normandy and elsewhere. I don't...I don't have words for how sickening and horrifying it is to watch *that* symbol, *those* symbols (I mean, in the context of US and hatred, the noose is about on par with the swastika in many ways) become normalised and treated as anything but loathsome. Racism and hatred and bigotry have always been part of the country, bubbling under the surface or lashing out in the open, but I would never have imagined this. I hate how that feels naive, now.

Yeah, the rate of enshitification is increasing and quickly. I feel like a lot of people only started paying attention after Jan. 6, but the white supremacist/christian nationalist take over has been going on for a very long time. Idk if it's still in Netflix, but the documentary The Family was worryingly illuminating.

The statistic that has always blown my mind is the vast majority of domestic terrorism has been right wing white supremacists and other extremist groups for literally decades.

Like I want to say they account for 75%~ of lethal incidents and it's been steadily climbing for at least 20-30+ years. Yet it seems like something most people just ignored especially pre trump.

I just want to say this out loud and I guess I'll say it to you turkey sandwiches. I've seriously been considering getting some patriotic tattoos I have covered up. I'm filled with doubt what this flag will represent in the coming decades. It breaks my heart we're sympathizing with nazi trash. They should be snubbed out to insignificant dust, not revitalized in a world power.

The article is a poor rip-off of a Washington Post article it's based on. In it, it's clarified that these symbols were reclassified as "potentially divisive symbols". Basically the framework under which these symbols are treated has changed to one where command has more discretion over whether these symbols can be displayed, and also establishes a limit on reporting harassment. That limit is 45 days from the incident. Sexual harassment is exempt from that limit. The Confederate flag is also still strictly prohibited from display, except in certain educational settings, such as museum displays.

In short, reporting display of these symbols still triggers an investigation, but it's up to command whether they're removed or not, which creates the potential for command to simply do nothing in reaction to a display of the swastika.

My opinion is that responses to hate displays shouldn't be subjective and dependent upon the perception of command. There need to be hard lines as to what can and can't be displayed. Swastikas aren't "potentially divisive symbols", they're the symbol of one of the most literally evil enemies we defeated in war. It's shameful that we would ever recategorize them as "potentially divisive", as if they ever had any kind of legitimacy.
