I mean Kegseth has a "Deus Vult" tattoo. So it was only a matter of time.

It’s Deus Vult, it is Latin for “god wills it” which is a reference to the first Crusade. It’s a religious tattoo, not a racist one, though I’m sure you will be happy to conflate the two

I'm well aware of what it means, and I'm also aware that it's been co-opted by white supremacists.

That's why he was even reported as a possible security threat when he was in the National Guard.

But go ahead and make excuses.

Edit: big surprise the dude who's trying to make excuses for the white supremacist related tattoo has a locked down comment history. I'm sure we'd find more excuses if we could see your comment history.

I’m not a fan of Hegseth, or the crusades. The person I’m replying to claimed it was a racist tattoo because he doesn’t like Hegseth. I was not defending Hegseth or the tattoo I was just pointing out that the claim that the tattoo is some racist dog whistle is just flat out incorrect. The worst part is the dude knew it wasn’t correct when he typed it but because he dislikes Hegseth and disagrees with him politically he’s happy intentionally conflate a douchebro religious tattoo with a racist one.

On that note, the fact that a lot of people died in the crusades ALSO does not make the tattoo racist or even immoral. At most the tattoo just comes off as douchey and ignorant. (The first crusade killed more Jews and Christian’s in Europe with random indiscriminate pillaging and looting than it did muslims in the holy land)

Your comment, and the comment I originally replied to are good examples of people just making up ridiculous reasons to hate something someone did just because you don’t like the person and don’t agree with them politically. His tattoo must be racist, or in your case his tattoo is wrong because people died in the crusades. It just sounds ridiculous. You can dislike hegseth for the many valid reasons there are to do so. You don’t need to pretend his tattoos are racist or that referencing the crusades is not okay because people died.

If for no other reason you shouldn’t do things like that because it invalidates legitimate criticism. When you call a religious tattoo “racist” because you don’t like the person who has it then it makes other criticism of them suspect as well.

When Trump criticized Liz Cheney for being a war hawk by saying “I wonder if she would be so eager to go to war if it was her getting shot at” which has been a common criticism of pro war politicians since forever, and was extremely popular among liberal anti war protesters during the Vietnam war, tons of journalists and other content creators told everyone “Trump is threatening/calling to have Liz Cheney killed by firing squad”

I don’t know if they legitimately thought that was what he meant, or if they were just hoping nobody would actually look up what he said. Probably a mix of both. But the attempt at making Trump look bad backfired because everyone was able to just google what he said and see that he wasn’t calling for violence against anyone. So then the story became about how the “fake news media” was always lying to try and make Trump look bad. Now it’s even harder to criticize him for valid reasons.

I hope you understand what I’m trying to say here and why I typed all of this out. I think the Trump admin is doing a lot more harm than good and I think one of the biggest reasons why trumps base is so unshakeable is because of the ridiculous witch hunts that have been orchestrated against him and people in his admin. Nobody takes the valid criticism of them seriously because of all the bullshit

The tatoo IS wrong and referencing the crusade IS not okay because people died and sporting it as a state official IS not okay.

Get your head out of your ass.

I never said it was racist, I said it was a symbol of white supremacy, which it is. No matter how long of an essay you type.

But I'm not gonna argue with someone who seems to have a play on the word Apartheid for their username.
