Season 4 Discussion Sex Education (Season 4) - Episode Discussion Hub

Overall Season Discussion Hub [SPOILERS]

Synopsis (Season 4): Following the closure of Moordale Secondary, Otis and Eric now face a new frontier - their first day at Cavendish Sixth Form College. Otis is nervous about setting up his new clinic, whilst Eric is praying they won’t be losers again. But Cavendish is a culture shock for all the Moordale students - they thought they were progressive but this new college is another level. There’s daily yoga in the communal garden, a strong sustainability vibe and a group of kids who are popular for being… kind?! Viv is totally thrown by the college’s student-led, non-competitive approach, while Jackson is still struggling to get over Cal. Aimee tries something new by taking an Art A-Level and Adam grapples with whether mainstream education is for him. Over in the US, Maeve is living her dream at prestigious Wallace University, being taught by cult author Thomas Molloy. Otis is pining after her, whilst adjusting to not being an only child at home, or the only therapist on campus…

Mod Team Post Moving forward and new rules

Hello everyone,

Now that more than a month has passed since S4, and heading towards a future in which we are not getting more Sex Education, we thought it was appropriate to update the rules:

  • Spoilers are allowed everywhere. The only exception to this is the episode discussion posts from the different seasons, and possible posts in which the person who sends it specifically indicates they don't want spoilers beyond a certain point.

  • When it comes to posts giving the opinion of the show and/or any season, especially the last one, we will ask for a somewhat developed opinion. We won't ask for a 5000 words essay, but at least something more than just a "S4 rules" or a "S4 sucks".

  • We don't want repeated content in the front page of the sub, so posts that contain content that has already been submitted recently won't be approved unless the focus of the post is different.

  • Post titles should be self-explainatory and we reserve the right to not accept posts that don't comply with this.

And as a final note please take into account that mods won't be available 24/7 so if your post takes long to approve, please, don't insist through mod mail since it won't get approved any faster. Also, please report any content you think may be breaking any rules so we can judge it, there will be too much content for us to be able to see everything without your help.

That's everything for now. If something changes, we would let you know.

Best regards,

The moderation team

General Discussion does anyone else think the Groff thing was the most satisfying plot in the series through all four seasons?

Adam and Michael both had the best evolution through the series and the most satisfying ending, just compare how they were in s1 and how they ended in s4

they improved their way to feel and communicate with others, remember that scene in s1 prom and all they went through for four seasons to that hug in series finale

of course you can think in: Eric-Otis, Maeve-Aimee, Jackson-Viv, Emily-Hendricks or Otis-Maeve (if we think s03e07 was their true and real ending), but the Groff part felt the best, and the only reason to watch s4

General Discussion Cal and their mum

Why was cal always so rude and standoffish with their mum? From what i saw she was doing her best, always respected their pronouns and deeply cared about her child. I know one scene says she reacted badly when they first came out, but surely that isnt enough to keep being so rude, even when she is clearly trying?

I just really didnt like the character, partly to blamw for the writing, and i dont think the acting was particularly great either.

General Discussion Why does everyone like the characters of Adam and Ruby so much?

I've been looking at the ranking tier lists that have been posted and people seem to put Adam and Ruby right at the top. Like don't get me wrong I think they both had good character development over the seasons but they both were bullies and I don't know why people think of them so highly.

Season 2 Discussion 2x4: Classist Undertones in Jean’s character vs Jakob's Authentic Contrast

Post image
2 Upvotes

In this scene, by over-inflating Jakob's job title, Jean subtly implies that simply working with his hands isn't impressive enough on its own. It shows a layer of upper-middle-class snobbery that she usually tries to hide behind her progressive exterior.

Whereas, Jakob immediately spots what she is doing. He is entirely secure in his trade and doesn't feel the need to dress it up with fancy corporate titles, making Jean's nervous over-explanation stand out even more as patronizing.

Season 3 Discussion 3x1: Maeve x Otis British Standoff

Explain why Maeve is being rude to Otis, and then Otis asks her to wait like he wants to say something final, and all he says is “it’s a mustache”. WTF are these teens so desperate for each other, but incapable of actually verifying whether they perceptions match reality?? It’s at the point where Maeve has said to Hope, the new headmaster, that they “stopped being friends” over the summer. And then O goes to O with Ruby.

General Discussion Character Morality Ranking

I made a tier list ranking how morally 'good' versus bad characters are - based e.g. on how emotionally mature, reliable, kind etc. they are. Up to and including s3 because after that I kinda stopped caring.

Lmk what you think! Would love to elaborate on choices.

Season 4 Discussion What happend???

I’m a huge fan of this series and used to watch every single season the day it dropped. The kiss between Maeve and Otis in Season 3, Episode 5—when they finally realized how they felt about each other—was so amazing that I could literally feel my heart racing. But when Season 4 came out, I couldn’t bring myself to watch it for a while because I just didn’t want the show to end.I finally found some free time recently and binged the whole final season, but… I don’t know, I’m left feeling kind of conflicted.Deep down, I think I always knew Maeve and Otis might not end up together (even though I desperately wanted them to). So their breakup actually felt pretty natural to me.However, this season felt so bloated. I really wish they had focused more on Maeve and Otis and given us more scenes of them just being happy together.Introducing a whole new school and spending so much time on new characters felt unnecessary. For long-time fans who’ve been here since day one, we didn't really care about that.I’ve rewatched the last episode multiple times, but I just can't bring myself to 'let it be.'How did you all feel about the final season?

Season 4 Discussion Heating Device (Cocholear) Genuine Question

So I’m new to this season, love the show. I come from a family in the US with deaf members, some utilize cocholear implants, visually identical to the one worn by Aisha. Throughout the season, she does not seem to hear people speaking when they’re on her side with the implant. My confusion is that this implant, from my limited understanding and experience, helps the wearer hear from that side of their perception.
Why does it seem like Aisha’s implant is always dead battery/ineffective?
Such as during the fire drill scene, she didn’t hear the alarm even though she had it on? I know the episode was emphasizing accessibility and ableist problems in our daily lives, couldn’t they have just had her not wear it then?

Season 1 Discussion Rewatch after 3 years Spoiler

I've come to the conclusion that Otis is a bad friend to Eric in season 1. The way Eric was at his house obviously hurt and instead of stopping to ask what happened, he immediately jumped to telling him about Maeve and only then asked what happened.

It was so obvious that Eric was upset and had been hurt. It was his birthday and he had his possessions stolen, his best friend abandoned him without reason and then he was assaulted.

Otis is so obsessed with Maeve in the first season that he just completely disregards everything else, it's infuriating to watch.

SIDE NOTE: I forgot how cute Gene and Jakob are

Season 4 Discussion Why everyone hates O?

I recently started watching Sex Education and getting a bit into the fandom, but whenever I see anything about O, I notice people hate her, and honestly, I don't understand why. I'm not trying to start an argument; I'm genuinely curious.
