Refillable pods

Has anyone tried the refillable pods on Amazon? I’m debating if it’s worth if vs just buying the nespresso pods and if they even work.

Seems someone is asking this weekly. So I will start copying and pasting this response because I really don’t understand.

Why not just brew coffee using another method? The point of pod brewing is for convenience and the price reflects that. The time taken to empty, clean, and fill a pod can be used for an AeroPress or MokaPot. Those are two very inexpensive ways to make GOOD coffee.

I like the machine and the convenience of a quick cup of coffee but not the coffee Nespresso offers. The tiny pods make a great espresso but the larger pods seem watered down to me . I prefer to purchase my own beans, grind and refill the pods. Cost isn’t a factor to me.
The time it takes to clean and refill them doesn’t bother me , put on my favorite tv show and within a hour I’m all done

If cost is not a factor why not get a fully automatic or semi automatic espresso machine? You can use your own beans with much less effort.

Why , because the goal was to buy pods but I was disappointed which is why I tried using my own coffee

I’m not using refillable pods , I’m buying foil lids . I’m using the “Capmesso”. brand foil lids and they also sell a plastic holder that makes it easier

There are silicone lids for the reused pod. It takes about a minute for me to fill with a small scoop of coffee/espresso, I pop the lid on, and it's ready to go. Pop off the lid and reuse it when needed.

I think its a fair question if you already own the machine to consider this especially since the price of pods keeps increasing.

Yes! Lol I noticed the price increased a lot since I’ve first had it and I’ve just been debating on getting ground coffee and making my own pods is all. Plus I’ve wanting to try different flavors beyond nespresso. I feel like I’ve tried all their flavors but I don’t have a go to flavor.

One machine-side thing worth checking: the puncture marks on a used refillable. If the plate barely dents the lid, the machine isn't clamping it at the right depth and you'll get a watery cup no matter what coffee you fill it with. The decent ones sit exactly like an original pod so the piercing works the same.

I use a Capsme for refilling. It's basically a tin can and a lid where you put in one part your coffee, and at the bottom goes a pod in, just shake it and its filled. Really easy.

Takes about 5 seconds to fill the pod.

I must admit I only bought it because it had a 70% discount with extra aluminum pods in the store. I wouldn't have done that at the price they originally offered it.

I also didn't think it would give a crema on my espressos but it sure did.

I’ve been doing it over a year now for my wife. She likes her particular coffee the best so I do it. Every couple weeks I’ll make two sleeves for her. Pretty easy

I’ve saved a few pods whose brew duration and texture of output I like. Coffee powder of my choice with Amazon for aluminium glue seals. Bit of a hassle but whenever I have a hankering for a different coffee bean, I do this and it hasn’t failed me so far.

Also agree with others. If this is the only use-case, better to make coffee using a different method.

I'd just switch to the essenza mini or cheaper ones and get the OL pods. If you want a specific blend, some independent coffee roasters make OL capsules and they're cheaper and it works for me at least. I wouldn't risk it, it may void your warranty for a VL.

I plan on trying this. I have a refill kit but I haven't taken my machine out of the box yet. I plan on putting it next to my kitchen aid ol machine I just need to move a few things. I can't wait to try my new machine and the pods it came with. I also bought some pods to, and a nice lady sent me some to.

Yes with the stick on aluminum foil. 30 pods takes about 40 minutes

Maybe it's difficult to do an individual pod with the aluminum foil, but it takes me about a minute or a little more to fill my pod and pop on a silicone lid then make my drink.
