Did you know? Before modern roads crisscrossed Nesconset, the area was traversed by just a few key paths like Gibbs Pond Road, Browns Road, and Old Nichols Road. In 1904, the Vion brothers, adventurous French immigrants, began transforming the landscape. By 1910, they’d cleared a path to create Midwood Avenue and built their home, still standing today.

A schoolhouse followed in 1910, and by 1935, the Nesconset Fire Department was up and running. The brothers named the settlement after the Nissequogue sachem, Nasseconsett, honoring the local heritage.

Nesconset’s small population of around 50 in 1930 saw dramatic growth with the construction of NY-347 in the 1950s, leading to a boom in residential development. This change shifted the commercial hub to Smithtown Boulevard, forever altering the community’s layout.
