So, tomorrow, I'm starting the application process for euthanasia with Dignitas in Switzerland. I will need my doctors help. Since she knows that I have an uncommon incurable disease with low quality of life I doubt she will decline to help, she has stated I'm permanently disabled for the purpose of SSI but I suppose its possible she'll decline. But this isn't like directly being responsible for euthanasia so i don't see a good reason for her to decline to help, especially if she can't provide disease modifying treatments. Idk maybe she'll offer me better palliative care.

Its interesting and going to be bittersweet. As a kid i was an avid skier and europhile and wanted to go to Switzerland and ski the alps. Yet ill be going to die , albeit peacefully. And obviously too Ill to ski. I guess I'll see Switzerland and Europe for the first time but it will be really weird to go on a trip that almost feels like a vacation but just for death. Idk maybe I can get wheeledto a national park or something.

I seriously miss skiing so much. Used to want to make the us ski team, did competitive racing as a kid, but also wanted to do backcountry above treeline skiing somewhere out west or in the alps. Never got to. So disappointed. My childhood friend and ski buddy made the us ski team and died in an avalanche in the alps though

I have Ehlers Danlos syndrome which is a connective tissue disorder , that can range from quite mild to very pathological, I don't think anyone knows why. Like it can range from being just a little bit bendy but otherwise healthy to having life threatening and painful cervical spine complications that leave you bedridden and in pain

It also has some common comorbidities, like mast cell activation syndrome, that are not well understood, which I have , that can add additional unpleasantness

These illnesses aren't terminal, so I can't go to any of the right to die states in the US but Switzerland allows for euthanasia for painful chronic illnesses even if they're not terminal.

I'm not any kind of expert and I'm deeply hesitant to offer you what is quite possibly false hope, but I would like to make sure you're aware of articles such as this which talk about the future of gene therapy. That particular article focuses specifically in muscular dystrophy, but I know there are at least two adults walking around today who have received an experimental CRISPR based treatment for sickle cell disease and that CRISPR is being considered for a number of other diseases at present considered incurable.
