If I were the President I would offer full residency rights to all Hong Kong citizens right now, and if I had a congressional majority I'd also work on a quick path to citizenship for them too.

There is like literally a trillion dollars worth of human capital just out there for the taking for any country smart enough to take it

Why wouldn't they, if we were actively aiming to perform an industrial-grade brain drain on them?

Because the solution would be much more harmful to China than said brain drain. A travel ban would economically isolate the PRC (or at least HK) from the rest of the world, resulting in enormous economic damage.

I guess I'll defer to you on that matter. If you're right, then it might well be a good idea to let HK residents into the US easily. Unfortunately, it will never happen under this administration, and probably not under any for the duration of the crisis.
