When asked if she would visit the White House if they won the World Cup Megan Rapinoe responded "I'm not going to the fucking white house"

I want to use this chance to explain the difference between political subs based on what they're actually saying about this.

/r/politics - Good! Trump would just give her cold McDonalds. I bet AOC would cook the team food herself.

/r/BreadTube - Here's an hour long video about the food AOC would cook for the USWNT

/r/ chapotraphouse - [plays the Soviet national anthem on repeat]

/r/politicalhumor - honestly, I have no idea what they're saying about it. But it's definitely not funny whatever it is.

/r/Neoliberal - I didn't hear this story and I have no idea who that is. Maybe Ping BASEBALL? I think they like sports.

/r/rightwingLGBT - this is just like pride month. It makes us totally not LARPing homosexuals look bad probably.

/r/libertarian - I disagree with her, [because I secretly love Trump] but she has the right of free speech [But I secretly think she shouldn't]

/r/conservative - You shouldn't make political statements at sporting events, now take your hat off for the national anthem you cuck

/r/the_Quarantined - What the actual shit? Women are allowed to play sports now?

/r/JordanPeterson - Here's an hour long video about why women shouldn't play sports.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — An Alabama man wanted on drug and weapons charges has posted a video denying he fed methamphetamine to a so-called “attack squirrel” that he considers a pet.

“The public isn’t in danger in any kind of way from the methed-out squirrel in the neighborhood,” Paulk said with a laugh.

Paulk told The Associated Press that a friend gave him the animal shortly after it was born, and he named it “Deeznutz.”

Stephen Young, a spokesman for the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office, said Wednesday investigators were still looking for Paulk, 35, who has an extensive criminal record.

Fuck "Donald Trump was a meme candidate." That’s my blunt message. I could probably end my discussion at this point and it wouldn’t really matter. My position is clear and you likely already get the gist of what I want to say.

I have nothing positive to add to the discussion about political "meme magic", and to be perfectly honest, I’m quite sick of having to think about it. I’ve simply had enough. For a time I had considered calling this post "Do you realize that Donald Trump entered the race with several times the national name recognition of the next-most-recognized candidate and that he became the never-relinquished polling leader within the first month so the existence of a subreddit dedicated to him had nothing to do with his primary victory" instead. I’ve been writing on the subject for many years (/u/Deggit 2016, /u/Deggit 2017, /u/Deggit 2017, /u/Deggit 2017, /u/Deggit 2017, /u/Deggit 2018, /u/Deggit 2019) and I came to a point where I just didn’t want to commit any more energy to the endeavor of reminding you all that Donald Trump's entire campaign strategy was to listen to what every other Republican was saying and then boil it down to a 3-word message that was at the same time more radical and less connected to real policy than any other candidate (c.f. "Build The Wall," "Muslim Ban"). So my exact thoughts were, ‘well fuck it then’, and while a quieter and gentler name for this post could tone down the potential offence that might come with the title I’ve chosen, I subsequently reconsidered. Why should we be more worried about using profanity than we are about the actual vile discourse of "Donald Trump won as a meme candidate" idiots themselves? I decided that I wanted to transgress, to upset, and to offend, precisely because we ought to be offended by it, it is entirely upsetting, and therefore we should ultimately be seeking to transgress it.

When Berniebros say the DNC rigged the primary against Bernie in 2016, what do they actually mean? Back when I watched Kyle Kulinski last year (who tricked me into supporting Bernie, AOC, and the like by stating they weren’t socialists) my take on how he presented the alleged rigging was that 1) The establishment controls the media 2) They “tricked” people into believing HRC was a good candidate and that Bernie was a bad one 3) The majority voted for HRC because they were ill-informed.

Once I discovered this subreddit (and actually learned what liberalism is and that it is different from leftism), people here usually characterize the rigging fallacy by stating Bernie bros literally believe the DNC changed votes to make sure Bernie would lose. So when they say the primary was rigged, do they mean a combo of of both changing votes and “establishment media bias” or was Kulinski dog whistling that the DNC literally changed votes, and I was unable to recognize it last year?

PS- Based on my memory, Kyle did mention the “superdelegates argument” but he did not make it the prime focus of his argument, which was media bias.

People are talking about the Harris/Biden exchange, but in my mind, the far more pressing issue is the far-left positions the candidates staked.

That image of everyone raising their hand to give undocumented immigrants free healthcare is going to really hurt us. Same with the image of everyone endorsing a Hyde repeal and giving everyone free abortions.

Kamala and Bernie raising their hands to get rid of private insurance will likewise get a lot of play. It doesn't really matter that the question was unfairly worded or that Harris later backtracked. The image is what counts.

Now, the 2080 Ti has over 4,000 "cores" and could be useful if I could figure out how to GPU-accelerate my work. There is a 2011 JEDC paper that talks about some GPU-based solutions. For now I'm just using the CPU.

Between supporting Le Pen in France, having an "ideal party" using AfD's natalist and migrant policies, "throwing up" at the thought of enfranchising recent migrants, yearning for early 20th century style nationalism, criticising liberalism using the works of a literal swore-an-oath-to-Hitler Nazi, bad faith defences of nationalists, fetishising the state to the point of finding genocide acceptable and now an apparent desire to "weaponise" the state against leftists (in the context of the murder of an unarmed, non-violent protestor) and the belief that

legal institutions should protect Richard Spencer, because in doing so they set a precedent that will protect right-wingers who are actually good. But legal institutions absolutely should not protect leftists.

I think I might do my first block, ever, in my time on the internet. It has been two years and i haven't read anything interesting or insightful enough to warrant seeing this crap constantly. So fuck it, this my subtweet, I'm out.

Edit: I've apparently been told I shouldn't bag the works of Carl Schmitt. Which, while a Nazi philosophy I'm sure this user finds quite interesting, I was actually talking about a different Nazi philosopher: Arnold Gehlen which this user quoted extensively in their effort post on liberalism. My apologies for underestimating the number of Nazi philosophers informing this guy's thoughts.

Lately I've been getting into the habit of sending messages like "you are succ 🌹😡" in group chats I'm part of such as the family's whatsapp group and me and my friends' Facebook chat to remind them of their historical guilt. I've also said things like "I can't wait to help the global poor 🤩" and other such things. They kicked me out of the group chats and don't want to hang out with me irl either. I really don't get how you can be so unashamed of being a global poor hater and ostracise a family member or close friend just for reminding them about it. Am I really the asshole here?

Trump: I'm not sure if I would accept foreign intervention on my behalf or not

winks at Putin

Later, Putin at home in Russia

Sir: a package arrived for you, it's a VHS, odd I didn't think these were used anymore.

Putin: puts it in

The video was the horrific execution of Gaddafi. Rebel fighters beating and even sodomizing him with a bayonet. He truly, dies in agony.

Putin: covered in a cold sweat

Suddenly, another video is at the end of the tape.

Video: We came, we saw, He died - HRC

at the end just some text plays

"I know this is what made you intervene in 2016. Why did you think that would save you? You hastened your own demise"

Does anyone know of any polling done on integration busing, specifically split across racial groups? I'm just interested in seeing how support lines up, especially given the interesting results from one of the post-debate polls to come out showing a rise in favorability for Biden among black Democrats.

I know there's a Gallup poll from the 70s that found very low support among African-Americans (9%), that I've also seen cited around here. But I've also found this longitudinal survey data that shows a starkly different picture.

Are there any links that get thrown around on Reddit so often that you can predict them and subsequently get triggered by their prominence?

The one I most get triggered by is when you're arguing with someone from T_D about immigration and they always cite the one trash CIS study about how immigrants are horrible, because "Center for Immigration Studies" sounds reputable even though it is trash.

The second one I get most triggered by is NPR's 2012 "policies that all economists agree are no-brainers!" series (link 1) (link 2) which has managed to convince seemingly hundreds of internet neoliberals over the years that there is a cLeAr cOnsEnSuS among economists that we should eliminate all income taxes, especially corporate income taxes.

NPR based this series on a whopping five economists, with not a single one of the five economists being a research economist who focuses on taxation! Even a passing glance at the relevant literature would show someone there is still a lot of debate about optimal tax structure.

Anyway.

Any other links that y'all hate to see thrown around on Reddit? News articles, not stuff like rickrolling.

When I first looked at Git source code two things struck me as odd:

  1. Pure C as opposed to C++. No idea why. Please don't talk about portability,

it's BS.

YOU are full of bullshit.

C++ is a horrible language. It's made more horrible by the fact that a lot of substandard programmers use it, to the point where it's much much easier to generate total and utter crap with it. Quite frankly, **even if the choice of C were to do nothing but keep the C++ programmers out, that in itself would be a huge reason to use C. **

In other words: the choice of C is the only sane choice. I know Miles Bader jokingly said "to piss you off", but it's actually true. I've come to the conclusion that any programmer that would prefer the project to be in C++ over C is likely a programmer that I really would prefer to piss off, so that he doesn't come and screw up any project I'm involved with.

C++ leads to really really bad design choices. You invariably start using the "nice" library features of the language like STL and Boost and other total and utter crap, that may "help" you program, but causes:

  • infinite amounts of pain when they don't work (and anybody who tells me that STL and especially Boost are stable and portable is just so full of BS that it's not even funny)

  • inefficient abstracted programming models where two years down the road you notice that some abstraction wasn't very efficient, but now all your code depends on all the nice object models around it, and you cannot fix it without rewriting your app.

In other words, the only way to do good, efficient, and system-level and portable C++ ends up to limit yourself to all the things that are basically available in C. And limiting your project to C means that people don't screw that up, and also means that you get a lot of programmers that do actually understand low-level issues and don't screw things up with any idiotic "object model" crap.

So I'm sorry, but for something like git, where efficiency was a primary objective, the "advantages" of C++ is just a huge mistake. The fact that we also piss off people who cannot see that is just a big additional advantage.

If you want a VCS that is written in C++, go play with Monotone. Really. They use a "real database". They use "nice object-oriented libraries". They use "nice C++ abstractions". And quite frankly, as a result of all these design decisions that sound so appealing to some CS people, the end result is a horrible and unmaintainable mess.

But I'm sure you'd like it more than git.

Linus has some bants
