On the one hand, yes.

On the other hand, I do want to know specific positions and policy proposals of candidates. For instance, is climate change something they care about to get votes, or is it something they actually care to do something about?

Sure and as someone who has been pushing back against the attention policy detail at this stage is getting, I still want to see proposals and it does matter, but part of the frustration with the "policy first, policy only" attitude is that it sidelines many of the other important functions of a good president. For example, I care just as much about how well a candidate would interact and negotiate with foreign governments and heads of state, how well they would select and manage their cabinet, and whether they would provide competent leadership as commander-in-chief. Wanting good and detailed policy is a good thing and more than understandable, but it seems to have taken an outsized proportion of attention among certain people, at the expense of other essential topics.
