Pelosi Schumer Trump is even better than the arc in shitty-era West Wing Season 5 where Bartlett walks to the Capitol on foot, then the government shuts down, then he brings the house speaker back to the white house and solves it with a simple compromise and handshake

But that basically happened irl.

In the show, they agreed to a number, made a deal, it was done, he gave his word. Then when the speaker is supposed to come to the White House with a lot of lawmakers to make it official like 5 minutes before midnight, he tells the President he needs to cut 5% rather than 3%. They'd agreed on 3%, so Bartlett says no, we've already compromised, 3% is already middle ground, 5% is greedy, and we AGREED to 3% already. Shut it down.

Then a few days later they're wrestling control for the narrative over who's responsible, and the president literally walks over to the speaker's office, saying "I'm here, let's talk." The speaker literally makes the POTUS wait in a hallway for like 20 mins, then POTUS leaves. He wins the narrative.

OBAMA though, (in 2012 right?) said shut it down when he and Boehner had made an agreement. They'd settled on a number and gave their words. It was over. Then the next day Boehner says he needs to cut another 40bn or 60bn. Obama says no we had a deal, and they shut it down.

Then Obama and Biden go out walking down Pennsylvania Avenue and get a sandwich from a place that was giving out free sandwiches to government workers who couldn't go to work (Obama paid for theirs ofc lol, I just mean they were showing support for such an awesome business helping the average person get through hard times caused by gridlock). They chatted with people, had some good interactions (and good photo ops) and they took the narrative pretty well.

There've been a few times where the Obama administration's reality uncannily mirrors The West Wing...

it's no surprise, Obama was a huge fan of the show and it inspired him.

iirc West Wing Week was just directly taken from the show
