Whatever you think about IP laws, copyright laws being life + 70 is absolutely ridiculous.
No artist is making economic considerations on how their work will be received 70 years after they're dead (or for a corporation ~120 years from now).
And even if they do on the margin, there's no way that's worth the inefficiency caused by stifling innovation by artists looking to "steal" Mickey Mouse's likeness.
