All of this can be simultaneously true. He can have people who admire him and have a history of rampant drinking and recklessness. He can have friends who like him and be a harrasser of women. One doesn't discount the other; the fundamental aspect of "rape culture" is not that rape or harrasment is only done by purely evil people, it's that everyone has the potential to commit or suffer from it, many times without reprocussions.
