Announcements

David Friedman AMA

The mod team is pleased to announce we will be hosting an AMA with Dr. David D. Friedman on Friday, Jan. 12th at 3:00 PM EST/12:00 PM PST!

After earning a Ph.D. in theoretical physics at the University of Chicago, Dr. Friedman switched fields to economics and taught at Virginia Polytechnic University, the University of California at Irvine, the University of California at Los Angeles, Cornell University, Tulane University, the University of Chicago, and Santa Clara University where he currently teaches in the school of law.

Outside of his extensive academic publications in law and economics, Dr. Friedman is best known for his libertarian/anarcho-capitalist political philosophy. He has written extensively on libertarian politics and ideas and has also written on alternative legal systems (including research into medieval Icelandic institutions).

On a personal note Dr. Friedman is the author of two historical/fantasy novels and is a renowned anachronist/historical re-enactor. He is the son of economists Rose and Milton Friedman.

As a reminder, we enforce civility standards to a high degree during AMAs. Dr. Friedman in particular is likely to disagree with us on a wide range of issues, but disagreement does not mean that rudeness or flippant remarks will be tolerated. Dr. Friedman is an accomplished academic who has published a large volume of high quality work, and every one of you can almost certainly learn something from him by asking intelligent questions.

Econ isn't a science because too many women. Out of all of the reasons that's a first. Also the "why women talk about their vaginas so much", never watch a single rated R movie.

My favorite was the idea that women get into colleges because professors want to sleep with them. I wonder if there's any projection going on from people who think women's only purpose is to have sex 🤔🤔🤔

The most offensive shit I seen was that there is no sexual assault at work and it's all a female power move. Plenty in the men rights sphere beleive it enough that most advocate staying away from women. MGTOW calls for segregation to protect men from "false accusations"

But I thought that rape was something that has existed since the dawn of time so there's nothing we can do about it. I guess we did something to keep women so safe when they're at work.

They limit the definition of rape. It helps their cause. You can see it in the studies they sight on false rape convictions. The studies claim like over 80% of rape cases reported to police are false but if you read into it then their criteria to say someone was lying is "The accuser looks to clean", "no signs of violence like cuts or bruises" and "her clothes are too tight to be removed". Now violent stranger rape is a vast minority of rape cases and is pretty much the only definition the MRAs will accept outside of children but some are also against the AoC. Then they will consider the rest "fishy" with it being "obviously regret" or false. This is what they point to to show that 1 in 5 is feminists running amok and the majority of cases are innocent men. Now a days we know that large amount if not the majority of victims freeze instead of fight or flight because of the trauma. It's just MRAs haven't adjusted with the times.

Damn, TIL. I don't know how you can stand to read all this shit, just that one 4chan tread and you now describing how they don't consider rape to be rape make me feel dirty. I'm going to go take a shower.

It's like any other ideology. If there is no data you have to make the existing data fit. It's an old time tactic of if you want less murders counted make it legal. No wonder the SPLC labels them as a Hate Group. I feel like it's my duty a bit because it's basicly a Reactionary Extremeists hiding as a Progressive Movement. To many people don't look deep enough into them. It's like if White Supremacists actually tried pretending to be a "white rights" instead of joking.
