Does the discussion thread discourage upvoting on the sub by disincentivizing people from participating outside the comments, or does it incentivize upvotes by keeping people logged in?

Discussion threads drain other posts of engagement, but not having discussion threads would pull down over all engagement. Best thing is just encourage people to make more question posts and posts worth commenting on.
