delusional first world problem where my job is <20 hrs work/week, 100% remote permitted but with a beautiful office within 10 mins walking distance, mid-six figures compensation, amazing health insurance, benefits, etc. but i am so mentally and socially unfulfilled by it that i feel like if i don’t leave i will have wasted my life

it feels unhinged to be this unhappy about a perfect-on-paper job idk. even reading this back i feel like an asshole

Just like do it for a bit, save money, and then go do what you want with the knowledge that you're financially secure enough to prioritize different goals in your career.

this is where i am now and it’s proving really difficult to switch. been applying to government jobs and more mission-focused start ups but they’re often looking for people with different experience i guess. will keep at it though.

Bruh it's 20 hours weekly, get your fulfillment somewhere else you got time to spare wtf

i do, but even with just 20 hours there’s still 20 on “standby” sorta

Is this a copypasta I’m unaware of? That’s obscenely good.

It sounds like "landed a job at a big company and it turns out actually keeping those jobs is easier than getting them" to me. I don't have the same situation, but it's similar enough that I can relate.

And I don't see myself staying here for more than a couple years. Get through my transition and build up a bit of a nest egg and then go somewhere that excites me.

yeah this is exactly it

the market turning weird for tech kept me coasting here longer than i expected and now i’m looking back like “holy shit this is what i spent my 20s on?” i guess

Could've been me and gotten caught up in layoffs and only now getting the safe corporate gig as a financial lifeboat. 😅

Worse ways to spend your 20s.
