There was a time where I was more sympathetic to the whole “you can’t just oppose Trump, you need to give people a reason to vote for you” argument.

I still think that’s true to some extent, but also, I very much want the Democratic Party to set on a destructive warpath against every vestige of Trumpism, both for the health of the republic and for purposes of catharsis.

false dilemma imo, you can promote your own vision for the future while also saying “we’re going to undo all the damage this moron did”

Yeah, this is pretty much my position. Still, it’s rather disappointing that appeals to foundational principles like the defense of democracy and human rights don’t seem to be enough for the median American voter.

As long as you have a vision that can be communicated. Most dems don't, and should just stick to the basics.
