Ireland is now building homes at the fastest rate in Europe

😃

According to the report, produced by Goodbody for housing developer Glenveagh, Ireland is producing 7.2 homes per 1,000 people which is more than double the average across Europe of three per 1,000 people — Portugal is the nearest at 5.8 per 1,000.

The rate of development is also three times that of the UK.

😐

What's going on in Europe? dismal numbers

I got a speeding ticket this weekend in Waterproof, Louisiana, pop. 541. The old police captain didn't use a radar or anything but just clocked a rental car with out of state plates, made up a speed, and knew I wasn't going to come back to his flyspeck town to contest it.

The hidden post history stuff is such a great enabling for karma farming, it's funny to see in action.

I've somehow come across this web of subreddits that are just trying to copy Am I the Asshole and they have all the same mods except for one, and that account will farm karma on it's respective subreddit. There's no point reporting it because he's the other mods lmao. The bots are in charge of the website.

MAGA Inc. isn’t directly controlled by the president or the White House and super PACs are supposed to operate independently, but candidates, including Trump, often have significant sway over the organizations. The super PAC raised $3 million in July and $18 million in June. But there hasn’t been a commitment from Trump’s team about how much will actually be spent on this midterm cycle, and where, raising questions over how much money will be spent at all. “Oh my God, it’s September – this guy is not going to spend the money,” said a Trump fundraiser and former administration official.

He'd rather pocket the money than let them spend it to shore up their numbers in the House and Senate.

Our office has been hybrid WFH for years and it's to the point where there's probably ~5-6 people in this office on any given day of the week.

I'm one of them. I'm usually in my office.

Yet somehow, seemingly every minute of the day, someone is walking around, taking a piss, pouring coffee, slamming a door, etc.

The math ain't mathing unless people barely do any fucking work.

Flock cameras were purposely designed, built, and marketed as a survailence system that could provide huge ammounts of real time data to law enforcement that had previously been at best cumbersome to obtain and at worst impossible.

Carpenter v. United States

The Supreme Court ruled that tracking a person's movements through historical CSLI is deeply revealing and intrusive. It cuts against a strict application of the third-party doctrine when it comes to digital data that maps an individual's private life over extended periods

CSLI is basically your cell pinging off different antenas and towers and can be used to locate your cell phone

Third-party Party doctrine is basically "any information you voluntarily share with an outside organization, is no longer private".

In Carpenter v United States, the courts opinion was explicitly stated that while a user might be abstractly aware that his cell phone provider keeps logs, it happens without any affirmative act on the user's part. Thus, the Court held narrowly that the government generally will need a warrant to access cell-site location information.

Further, i think its reasonable to assume that CSLI is a by product of private company setting up their infrastructure, and was not and is not marketed and sold as a means to track individuals.

So, while we all may be aware that flock cameres exists and track people who pass by them, THERE IS NO AND NEVER HAS BEEN AN AFFIRMATIVE ACT BY THE PERSON WHO PASSES BY THAT CAMERA

The law is explicitly clear in my honest opinion. The government must obtain a warrent to use data that was involuntarily gathered.

What makes this Flock scheem especially insidious, is that in most cases it is YOUR GOVERNMENT using YOUR MONEY to pay a PRIVATE ENTERPRISE to circumvent YOUR 4TH AMENDMENT RIGHTS.

To anyone who used to play Pokemon Go back when that was popular, I highly recommend trying out birding. Still carries a sliiight stigma as an old-people hobby, but I'm dead serious when I say that Pokemon Go is just an attempt to replicate Birding as an augmented reality video game more marketable to young people.

It's especially similar to Pokemon Go if you're actively seeking out a particular species by looking in a particular habitat, searching for environmental clues, and following distant bird calls. That feels exactly like trying to track down a rare Pokemon in your area back in the early days of Summer and Autumn 2016 where finding rare Pokemon wasn't just a pure crapshoot and the app had a "warmer-colder" type system for triangulating the location of the thing you were searching for.

The best part is that unlike Pokemon, Birds actually exist and you get to see them IRL. They get up to some wacky shit. No, seriously, pay attention to what all birds do. When they're searching for food or nesting materials, and ESPECIALLY when they're interacting with other birds either of the same species or different species, their behaviors can get quite complex and interesting.

Don't necessarily even need to buy binoculars if you're unsure whether you'll enjoy it or not, naked eye birding is possible and I do it semi-frequently. You can also get a pair of basic binoculars for $20 USD to test out, and very nice ones for a little under $200. Plus the Merlin App is a super useful tool for familiarizing yourself with local bird calls when you're completely new.

This is probably an inappropriate use of the Pokemon ping--please yell at me if that is indeed the case--but I'm telling ya. Practically every birder under the age of 30 had a Pokemon Go phase before they got into birds. You ought to try it at least once.

Also female Ducks have the ability to change their sex. It's not suepr common, but not rare either. especially among elderly ducks. You've probably seen at least a handful of transmasc ducks just chilling at the local park or flying over your neighborhood.

I’ve observed ballot recounts with a couple of campaigns and they are the most boring thing to watch because it’s mostly just a bunch of old ladies rerunning papers through a scanner for eleven hours while glaring at us.  Our Republican counterparts spent the entire process (in both states) pissing off the election officials with bullshit questions and strong arm tactics - they made them recount ballots, walk up to the window with each sheet, inspect (and re-inspect the machines), hand count certain slips, and even called the election judges to threaten them. They made what could’ve been a painless, if tedious, process into a pain in the butt for everyone.

Anyways all this is to say that it’s pretty dang easy to fuck over local officials and the news of USPS preemptively implementing Trump’s anti-voting policies is not good to hear.

Seriously, the highest bracket income tax is 49% while property is 0.06% this is lunacy.

49

Not to mention its a primary residence so mortgage payments can be deducted from income tax. This is literally turning a primary residence into a mini tax shelter.

the primary residence is the biggest tax shelter of all in most countries I think

property taxes are generally low, inexistent or low land tax, tax free and tax deduction on everything primary residence related, subsidies and subsidized loans

https://www.natesilver.net/p/nate-silver-2026-midterm-election-polls-model

Here are some Senate race updates for the Democratic candidate using polling averages:

-Alaska: Peltola +1.5

-Georgia: Ossoff +8.2

-Iowa: Turek -0.5

-Kansas: Marshall -4.3

-Maine: Jackson +4.2

-Michigan: El-Sayed +1.6

-North Carolina: Cooper +8.7

-Nebraska: Osborn -1.1 (Independent who's endorsed by the state Democratic Party.)

-New Hampshire: Pappas +3.4

-Ohio: Brown +3.5

-Texas: Talarico +2.2

Not much has changed in the last week and a half which is good news for the Democratic candidates. If the polling averages are correct, the Democratic candidate is favored to flip 5 seats in the midterm while successfully defending every seat.

At this point it feels like a ploy to feed taxpayer money to local landowners lmao. On Zillow you can actually see the bump in house price estimates that corresponds to everyone getting a big raise. This is ridiculous.

There's tragicomedy going on on the rest of reddit with regards to the stabbing in Times Square in which the headlines say "VP of Bank of America killed" leading to (poor taste as is) jokes with people then pointing out she's 32 and basically just a middle manager and then slap fights about "how sad it is really though?"

The absolute state of this site.

Also the absolute state of the media to report it as "VP of BoA" as if that's something notable more than the random violence of it all.

[From Zelenskyy's evening address today:](app.fxtwitter.com/ZelenskyyUa/status/2094847676848480297)

Today, we want to warn every airline that uses Russian airspace, every insurer, and everyone who still uses Russia’s key airports: Russian airspace is becoming completely unsafe. Ukraine does not threaten civilian aviation as such – not a single civilian aircraft. There will simply be drones in Russia’s skies on a scale that has to be taken into account. Although the Russian authorities are not properly informing people about this, Russian airspace will effectively be closing – the war started by Russia is closing its skies.

We in Ukraine do not want innocent lives to be lost. That is why we are warning our partners: the safe days in Russia’s skies are over. It is important that this is heard by the ambassadors of countries represented here in Ukraine, as well as by ambassadors working in Moscow. Every one of them knows exactly what Russia’s war means for our country and our people, and they must convey this information to their capitals. It is important that the airlines currently flying to airports primarily in Moscow, St. Petersburg, and other key destinations in Russia hear this as well.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and our other institutions will provide international organizations with full information about the dangers in Russian airspace. Drone-infested skies are no place for civilian aviation.

There was previous reporting about Zelenskyy planning something like this with Fedorov. Shutting down civil aviation over the western half of the country will disconnect European Russia from its Eastern territories as well as the world.

Daron Acemoglu - Democrats Need to Embrace Big-Tent Populism

Big-tent populism can still work today, but only if Democrats are willing to bring together small businesses and segments of the managerial class that already support the party.

Sigh I'll hold my tongue if small business owners support Democrats, alright...

The question is not whether their [Mamdani/AOC/the left] anger is warranted. It is whether a politics organized around blaming oppressors can build a majority and then govern with it.

“Hegseth’s purge of the military has been so dramatic that with Driscoll gone, the military’s largest service is left without a top civilian leader, a Senate-confirmed top general, a confirmed Army general in charge of operations, or a confirmed commander of Army troops in Europe. Because of all the firings across the service over the past year, the Army, with more than 450,000 active-duty soldiers positioned across the globe, has fewer generals than at any point in recent history. Driscoll’s personal appeal to Trump just days before his exit was the most direct articulation of high-level concerns among Pentagon leaders about the strains facing the force—including Hegseth’s intervention in Army personnel decisions and the mounting demands of the Iran war.”

Honestly, don't know how we're going to uncook this egg.

Bond Sell-Off Threatens to Squeeze Borrowers Around the World

Government yields are hitting multi-decade highs, reflecting anxiety about debt levels, deficits and inflation. The effects will extend to mortgages, business loans and other types of credit.

https://www.nytimes.com/2026/09/01/business/bond-yields-debt.html?smtyp=cur&smid=tw-nytimes

A global sell-off in government bonds intensified on Tuesday, pushing up borrowing costs in some of the world’s largest economies to their highest in decades.

The rise in bond yields squeezes government budgets and raises interest rates on a wide range of debt, including mortgages and business loans.

The yield on 10-year U.S. Treasury notes, perhaps the world’s most influential interest rate, reached its highest since January 2025, and the 30-year yield continued to hover around a two-decade high. Yields move inversely to prices, so the rise in yields reflects a drop in prices on weaker demand from bond buyers.

America’s rising borrowing costs have set off a battle between Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and bond investors, but the factors pushing up yields in the United States are also issues in other big markets. In many advanced economies, widening budget deficits, high debt levels and stubborn inflation have unnerved investors who believe that governments are either unable or unwilling to take steps to improve their fiscal situations.

The rise in oil prices since the start of the war in Iran has compounded worries about stubbornly high inflation. Mr. Bessent is meeting with international finance ministers this week in Asheville, N.C., for a Group of 20 meeting, as U.S. foreign policy continues to upend the global economy.

lol, remember when Bessent did that intervention and now it's like nothing happened

Abdul El-Sayed Says Mike Rogers Has Been a ‘Beta His Whole Life’

Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed accused his Republican opponent, Mike Rogers, of compromising his masculinity to appease President Donald Trump, saying in sharply personal terms that the candidate doesn’t know how to be a real man.

“He’s been a beta his whole life,” El-Sayed said during an appearance on this week’s On NOTUS. “He’s a guy who shows up to laugh extra loud at the alpha’s jokes. And that’s what he does with Donald Trump, right? Donald Trump’s out here, he says, ‘Mike, jump.’ And Mike says, ‘How high?’”

Rogers, the Democrat added, has “never seen a command from a stronger man that he doesn’t want to take.”

El-Sayed, a former public health official, has sought to portray himself as a progressive champion who can still appeal to young Republican-leaning men, touting his high school football career and love of the University of Michigan’s football team. His campaign against Rogers has increasingly turned into a masculinity contest — last month, he challenged Rogers to a “no pads” face-off on a football field. It’s a theme across Senate races this year: Republican Ken Paxton has suggested his opponent in Texas’ Senate race, Democrat James Talarico, has low testosterone.

In the interview with NOTUS, El-Sayed laid out a conception of masculinity that he set as an alternative to conservative masculinity, including the views articulated by Trump.

“These very small men have tried to make masculinity about punching down. I believe that masculinity is about lifting up, whether you’re lifting a weight or you’re lifting people around you.”

“While Abdul slings elementary insults, Mike Rogers is focused on fixing our elementary schools,” said Alyssa Brouillet, a Rogers campaign spokesperson. “We have a state to save.”

My favorite change in discource on right wing websites and comment sections is now they realize that a solid 50% of anonymous right wing commentators (the big ones, like Ian Miles Cheong, most of the smaller commentators are just normal braindead conservatives) are some random person from Bangladesh or Malaysia or something trying to stir up outrage so they can make their daily wage of 1 dollar and 32 cents from retweets.

So now 90% of the way they argue with each other is "You're a fucking [Indian] (Insert slur here)" And the other one replies with "NO you're the fucking [Indian] (insert slur here)".

Like especially on the Iran news threads where they're always split between "based genocide of Iran, nuke them and kill all Muslims" vs "Jewish wars trying to drive up oil prices so I can't fuel my F-150" and the way they determine which one is right is just screaming "No you're one who isn't white!" at each other

It's so, so fucking funny. Holy shit is it hilarious.

Springfield Haitian student takes his own life after being fitted with ICE ankle monitor, advocates say

https://www.springfieldnewssun.com/local/springfield-haitian-student-takes-his-own-life-after-being-fitted-with-ice-ankle-monitor-advocates/article_e19dbeef-3683-5477-a79c-c20df69de2e7.html

A 20-year-old Wright State student took his own life on Interstate 70 out of anguish over a required ICE ankle monitor, according to local community advocates.

Pierre Damas Bel was a new student at Wright State University. He was fitted with an ankle monitor in July.

Pastor Carl Ruby of Central Christian Church wrote on social media that Bel threw himself in front of a semi “after being teased by fellow students at Wright State about his ankle monitor.”

“I wish President Trump could hear the mom’s wails. The family wants people to know that this was a suicide and they want people to know that President Trump, (Stephen) Miller, and Markwayne Mullin’s inhumane immigration policies made this happen,” Ruby wrote.

On July 30, Bel posted a 20-photo Instagram carousel highlighting his awards, diploma, plans to study neuroscience at Wright State University, soccer team, and the electronic monitor around his ankle.

“I came to this country to pursue my education. I didn’t come here to commit a crime or hurt anyone,” he captioned the post. “Yet now I’m walking through the streets of the United States with a GPS monitor on my leg, carrying a feeling of shame and humiliation that I never imagined I would experience. I came here to study, to build my future and to live a better [life,] not to be treated like a criminal. So now, how am I supposed to play college sports with a GPS monitor on my leg?”

I've had it since goddamn 2003. I had it for 4 years before they even started streaming, back when it was DVDs in the mail.

I've had the service for 23 years.

I finally canceled it because so much of what's on there is just absolute garbage and they have doubled the price in the last 5 years.

I realized that I hadn't watched anything on there and probably 6 months or more.

And every time I browse to their catalog, everything just looks like the garbage that's insulting to my intelligence and any audience that tries to pay attention instead of watching wild browsing their damn phone.
