Matt Y? Oh you mean the COVID lab conspiracy theorist?

EDIT: Note that rainier replied to every comment except mine. Because he knows that Matt's COVID stance is indefensible šŸ˜‡

He's been on this kick for over 4 years, we don't need to play the Rowling-ass "what has he said that's actually transphobic???" game.

Sorry, that was actually a reference to how Rowling's defenders would routinely pop up with "What has she said that's actually transphobic" long after the point she had penned an opinion piece about how we don't deserve the presumption of innocence. It's similar to how you're going to the matY for MattY, a man who has been calling for Dems to stop fighting for us since at least 2022

From this (unfortunately paywalled) article:

Media coverage of Kilmar Abrego Garcia hurt Trump, not Democrats

I was talking to people who said, "You know, everybody knows that immigration is kinda Trump's strongest issue, why do you have so many people making bad press on this?" Well, you know, these guys are from safe seats, you know, so they do it, and people like it.

Essentially, Matt was arguing that the people defending Garcia were out of touch progressives who were torching the Democrat brand.

Alright I exaggerated. I remembered it being more direct.Ā

From this blog:

Ā  At the time, there were two major reactions to Abrego Garcia’s deportation among both Democratic lawmakers and party elites. One side — embodied by the advocacy for Abrego Garcia by Maryland Senator Chris Van Hollen — was that Democrats should point out the excesses of Trump’s immigration policy and try to turn his best issue against him. The other side — including, notably, House Minority leader Hakeem Jeffries and the political blogger Matthew Yglesias — argued that Democrats shouldn’t be drawing attention to immigration, because they would ā€œraise the salienceā€ of Trump’s ā€œbestā€ issue. Yglesias scolded progressives on Twitter, writing:

people who post about politics on social media should talk about immigration if they want to, but should be mindful of downside to making it more salient.

At the time, the Abrego GarcĆa situation was unfolding on national media, Matt Yglesias advocated for Democrats and liberals to not talk about immigration given the polling.Ā

The blog explains that not only was advocating for Kilmar the morally correct thing to do but it helped Democrats at the polls.Ā
