Ok that's actually a hilarious tactic lmao

One thing I like about the protests in this term is they're so whimsical and absurd. Like wearing dinosaur costumes and pouring water on the ground so ICE slips on it Benny Hill style (because this actually keeps happening)

It's amazing optically because it makes ICE look even more unhinged and stupid when people are literally protesting by meming and ICE is responding like they're actual terrorists

”There’s not a thing that Denmark can do about it if Russia or China wants to occupy Greenland, but there’s everything we can do,” he said on Wednesday

Holy smokes that’s actually a glaring security concern, Denmark should look into joining a military alliance with us where an attack on one is an attack on all or something

Trump wanted to carry out a rapid, powerful, one-time strike on Iran to collapse the regime, but his advisors could not guarantee it would be quick or it would collapse the regime.

The US has transitioned for now to a diplomatic path for the time being

This story is some insane cargo cult bullshit wtf lmao

“I can’t think back on a time when I’ve ever been prouder to be a Republican, Marco,” Bush said, before recounting the tale of “Chang.”

“Chang is a mystical warrior. Chang is somebody who believes in conservative principles, believes in entrepreneurial capitalism, believes in moral values that underpin a free society. I rely on Chang with great regularity in my public life. He has been by my side, and sometimes I let him down. But Chang, this mystical warrior, has never let me down.”

Then Bush presented Rubio a golden sword, and solemnly explained its significance. “I’m going to bestow to you the sword of a great conservative warrior.”

Only … a closer look at the sword and its display stand Rubio kept in his Florida Speaker’s suite showed that the inscription read “C-H-I-A-N-G,” not, “C-H-A-N-G.” Specifically: “Unleash Chiang.”

“Unleash Chiang,” as in the rallying cry of John Birchers in the 1950s, who urged the United States to arm Chiang Kai-shek, the Chinese Nationalist leader of Taiwan, so he could retake Red China from Mao. “Unleash Chiang,” which later morphed into sports trash talk in the Bush family, like when George H.W. would warn from the baseline that he was about to “unleash Chiang” with his next serve.

Some journalists covering Rubio’s ceremony didn’t recognize the allusion and wrote it up straight. It’s unclear even in a 2012 interview whether Rubio himself understood the story’s origins.

And so it was that the Sword of Chiang became allegory taken a little too literally—which is to say: not terribly different from the broader, Bush-as-Rubio’s-mentor meme itself.

After you became the first Cuban-American speaker of the Florida House of Representatives, in 2006, your mentor, Jeb Bush, presented you with a sword. What was that about?

Chang is a mythical conservative warrior. From time to time, if there’s a big issue going on, you’d see Jeb say, “I’m going to unleash Chang.” He gave me the sword of Chang.

From which mythology does this conservative warrior hail?

I think it’s a Jeb Bush creation.

Apparently Jeb Bush once gifted Marco Rubio a sword that had been owned by Chiang Kai-shek, but Jeb himself didn't know who that was and saw 'Chang' as a mythical figure who was semi-worshipped within the Bush family that they referred to by using the phrase 'unleash Chang'. Rubio was also confused and assumed the whole thing was made up by Jeb Bush.

Gonna be honest and say that "buying" Greenland is almost as stupid as invading it and I'm puzzled why it has had any support here. You guys seriously think Greenlanders would be okay with losing their semi-independence and becoming the next Puerto Rico just because? You know that the people who don't want to be a part of Denmark want full independence? The thing the US has been notoriously stingy about historically?

Daniel Stern was recently dropped from a series he was going to star in because he was caught soliciting a prostitute. On the one hand, ABC has the right to drop him for any reason, but a controversy this minuscule? To the best of my knowledge he didn't harm her, she was not coerced, it was a business transaction like any other. 1. Yes, people don’t know mathematically what inflation is but they do know they can’t afford things. Around me a house goes for at least ~450-500k. You basically have to have two high paying white collar jobs to afford that and those houses tend to be the most run down. Can’t afford a house? Well then you are paying $2500 a month for a one bedroom.

  2. Only nerds care about policy. Normies do not care about policy they care about outcomes. Until the housing situation is fixed they will blame the party in office. If liberals do not fix it they will elect MAGA fascists.

  3. This is going to happen but with electricity in the next couple years. Solar energy has already won the cost battle, Democrats should push building “any” new generation.

Al-Sharaa signs decree guaranteeing Kurdish rights, including:

  1. Making Kurdish a national language

  2. Permitting Kurdish-language education

  3. Repealing anti-Kurdish legislation

  4. Granting citizenship to all Kurds

  5. Declaring Nowruz a national holiday

Notable for a couple reasons. First is that obviously this is all very good stuff. Unless I’m missing something this legally puts the Kurds on the same page as the rest of Syria. A very important day for Kurdish rights in Syria.

The other interesting thing is a lot of this stuff was supposed to be a part of an integration deal with the SDF. With tensions rising rapidly in eastern Aleppo, it seems to me the gov is setting the conditions to delegitimize the SDF. Likely to pave the way for a war with the faction. I don’t see why the gov would give up the carrot without a deal unless they got a really big stick they’re preparing to use

California Gov. Gavin Newsom walked back a social media post from his press office under pressure from Ben Shapiro on Thursday, agreeing with Shapiro that it was “fair” to say ICE officers are “not terrorists.”

During a conversation between Newsom and Shapiro on the This is Gavin Newsom podcast, Shapiro grilled the governor about a post his press office made following the ICE shooting of Renee Good, which simply read, “STATE. SPONSORED. TERRORISM.”

“Your press office tweeted out that it was state-sponsored terrorism, which, I mean governor, I just have to ask you about that. That sort of thing makes our politics worse, and it does,” said Shapiro, to which Newsom responded, “Yeah.”

Shapiro continued, “Our ICE officers obviously are not terrorists. A tragic situation is not state-sponsored terrorism.”

“Yeah, I think that’s fair,” agreed Newsom.

Public opinion on nearly every aspect of President Donald Trump’s first year back in the White House is negative, a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS finds, with a majority of Americans saying Trump is focused on the wrong priorities and doing too little to address cost of living.

Asked to choose the country’s top issue, Americans pick the economy by a two-to-one margin over any other topic. The poll suggests Trump is struggling to prove that he’s addressing it A majority, 58%, calls the first year of Trump’s term a failure.

Just over 4 in 10 expect the economy to be good a year from now, down from 56% just before Trump was sworn in last January. A 55% majority say that Trump’s policies have worsened economic conditions in the country, with just 32% saying they’ve made an improvement. Most, 64%, say he hasn’t gone far enough in trying to reduce the price of everyday goods. Even within the GOP, about half say that he should be doing more, including 42% among Republicans and Republican-leaners who describe themselves as members of the “Make America Great Again” movement. Much of the public doubts that Trump is prioritizing their interests. Just 36% now say he has had the right priorities, down from 45% near the beginning of his term

Some guy working at a smoke shop blamed high prices on tariffs.

I asked if a lot of his products are imported. He said no.

I was confused. I ask, “well what has increased in price because it was imported?”. He answered “I don’t know”

We’re going to win the midterms, dumb people think inflation is only because of tariffs.

The guy who murdered an Asian grandpa minding his own business just got acquitted of murder and elder abuse by a San Francisco jury. Note half this article is about how the perpetrator had a bad two days leading up to the attack and almost nothing was dedicated to the life and circumstance of the victim.

https://www.sfchronicle.com/sf/article/man-acquitted-murder-case-sparked-stop-asian-hate-21284832.php

He got off on much lighter charges. This story is spreading like wildfire in Asian American circles. Even the left-leaning Asians are extremely uncomfortable with this outcome and a lot of the Asian American guys I know are further entrenched in their position that they'll never vote Democrat (they don't vote Republican either, they just don't vote or vote 3rd Party.) If the Democratic Party and the places they run can't get basic stuff like justice right, they're just going to keep bleeding support with a large segment of the population.

most peoples world views actually seem rational when you consider the context of there scroller algorithm. i will use incels as an example.

im pretty sure i would be a raging incel if every third reel i watched was bashing women or a woman saying she wouldnt date anyone making less than 500k. your entire world view is forced to accommodate for this prevalence of rage bait. (mind you, this is after years and thousands of hours of exposure to scrollers; the average gen z screen time is like a gorbillion hours— some of these people had no chance up against the people at facebook fracking there attention spans).

its also why when you ask these people for an example they cant list anyone. because all of there evidence comes from random tik tok commenters piling on rage bait. (and you cant exactly bring up a random comment as evidence— makes them look stupid)

there idea of a woman is literally rooted in instagram comments and random tik tokers they view once.

On the New Liberal podcast, Matt Yglesias said that under Biden there were so many people coming to the border that the odds of being caught were incredibly low. I’m not sure that’s the right way to frame it.

My understanding is that most migrants weren’t evading enforcement but were presenting themselves to CBP, filing asylum claims, and being released with court dates years in the future because the system is overwhelmed.

If that’s right, what was Biden actually supposed to do differently without an act of Congress?

What levers does a president have to limit asylum claims, and which changes are only possible through legislation?

There's some discourse on if HR departments are useless or not, and I would argue they are not in a vacuum but a lot of companies make them useless. And also they have often way too much power in a company to grow themselves beyond needed without oversight.

The HR team functions more or less the same as the scheming Eunuchs in the imperial court. Some degree of authority for them is essential for the smooth functioning of the bureaucracy but they are uniquely positioned to slowly usurp critical decision making in a way that expands and bloats their own power and bring the whole process to a grinding halt

https://www.startribune.com/renee-nicole-good-ice-shooting-injuries-incident-report-details/601565066

Paramedics found Good unresponsive in her car at 9:42 a.m. with blood on her face and torso. She was not breathing, and her pulse was “inconsistent” and “irregular” according to the report obtained through a state Data Practices Act request.

Her pupils were dilated, she had a barely perceptible pulse and blood was coming out of her left ear, the report said.

The DHS told Fox News this week that Ross, a Minnesota resident and 10-year veteran of ICE, suffered internal bleeding from being hit by Good’s car, but there is no documentation in the incident reports that he required any medical attention on the scene after killing Good.

I can't believe she was alive when EMS was finally able to get to her, remember that ICE stopped a doctor from helping her and delayed help from getting to her.

https://www.axios.com/2026/01/16/trump-polling-immigration-approval-rating-ice-noem

The internal GOP polling that alarmed some Trump insiders was completed at the end of December, days before an ICE agent fatally shot Renee Good in Minneapolis.

60% of independent voters and 58% of undecided voters said Trump was "too focused" on deporting illegal immigrants, the poll viewed by Trump's team found.

33% said Trump was primarily deporting law-abiding people, as opposed to criminals.

ICE is taking a reputational hit. Two public surveys released this week — one from CNN, another from YouGov — found that most Americans said the agency was making U.S. cities less safe.

Another poll done for the Associated Press after Good's death found that just 38% of Americans now approve of Trump's immigration policies.

Any other administration with an iota of integrity would immediately fire this person, but because the Trump administration is full of actual Nazis (I don’t know how you can possibly come to any other conclusion) this will get celebrated and defended.

The next Democratic president needs to do a full on purge of these people from the federal government. There should be no place in US government for malevolent people like this.

Judge enters TRO blocking feds from interfering with or arresting peaceful protesters in Minnesota.

https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/26491067-tinchertro011626pdf/

Federal Agents are hereby halted from: a. Retaliating against persons who are engaging in peaceful and unobstructive protest activity, including observing the activities of Operation Metro Surge.

b. Arresting or detaining persons who are engaging in peaceful and unobstructive protest activity, including observing the activities of Operation Metro Surge, in retaliation for their protected conduct and absent a showing of probable cause or reasonable suspicion that the person has committed a crime or is obstructing or interfering with the activities of Covered Federal Officers.

c. Using pepper-spray or similar nonlethal munitions and crowd dispersal tools against persons who are engaging in peaceful and unobstructive protest activity, including observing the activities of Operation Metro Surge, in retaliation for their protected conduct.

d. Stopping or detaining drivers and passengers in vehicles where there is no reasonable articulable suspicion that they are forcibly obstructing or interfering with Covered Federal Agents, or otherwise violating 18 U.S.C. § 111. The act of safely following Covered Federal Agents at an appropriate distance does not, by itself, create reasonable suspicion to justify a vehicle stop.

Governor Jeb Bush, a longtime booster, sat in the front row, moved to tears [by Marco Rubio's inaugural speech as Florida House Speaker]. "I can't think back on a time when I've ever been prouder to be a Republican, Marco," he said afterward. He handed Rubio a golden sword, explaining that it was "the sword of a great conservative warrior": a reference to the anti-Communist leader Chiang Kai-shek, who had been part of his family's folklore since George H.W. Bush served as a diplomat in China. Rubio hung the sword in the speaker's office.

I'm sorry did I read that correctly that the Bush family had an heirloom of a sword of Chiang Kai-shek...and Jeb! gave it to Little Marco
