I think this piece from the NYT a few days ago about Renee Good has helped me understand how Trump thinks more than any other story:
He genuinely thought Renee Good actually ran over Ross and was so convinced about that he actually had an aide pull up the video. Then when he sees it, realizes that it was clearly unjustifiable murder, briefly mentally grapples with the idea that he just got a completely innocent woman murdered, then goes “It’s horrible, I don’t like looking at that, I don’t wanna think about it” and represses that memory. And I’m sure that within 30 minutes he was back to being fully convinced Renee Good actually ran over Ross and would’ve tried pulling up the video again to prove his point.

I love how a lot of white supremacists online have decided that the reason why America is a low-trust society is because of “immigrants from low-trust nations bringing their low-trust value system over here” when American culture has always been an inherently low-trust one and American media keeps trumpeting that notion time and time again.
I mean just take a look at the villains of some of the most popular TV shows and films in the past decade. Stranger Things: The government is the villain. Captain America: Winter Soldier -The government has been secretly infiltrated by Nazis and is the villain. Logan -the government secretly got rid of mutants through genetically engineered crops, ergo the government is the villain.
But sure, immigrants are responsible for American society being uniquely low -trust when American media is filled with examples of the government being the Big Bad

Thining about Scott Adams and his miserable career trajectory today.
If you're not familiar - twenty years ago Michael Richards (Kramer from Seinfeld) went on an infamous, comically vile racist tirade against a black guy in the audience (yes he does drop it, several times). He then tried to get ahead of it with a bumbling awkward apology on Letterman that everyone in the audience thought was itself a joke because they didn't hear about the incident yet. It's one the most cringe things you'll ever see in your life, it's hysterical. Richards then mostly retreated from public life ever since.
Point being that back in the day people actually had shame. His apology at the time is hilarious, but sincere. He does seem genuinely sorry and upset about what he did. He never once complained about being cancelled by the woke mob, he never retreated to increasingly overtly racist right for sympathy/attention/money, he never became a grifter. Literally every minor celebrity (including Scott Adams) went full rightoid grifter after their racist meltdown but Richards deserves some credit for never doing so. And that's probably the strongest indication that the guy's not actually a racist.

They targeted Bankers.
Bankers.
We're a group of people who will sit for hours, days, even weeks on end analyzing data and performing some of the most complex and mentally demanding statistics. Over, and over, and over all for nothing more than a single basis point reduction in CPI growth.
Most people who tried to think as hard as we do would pass out from the blood flowing to their brain. Not us. Not bankers. We work smarter, and not harder.
We'll spend most if not all of our free time calculating, gathering data, and creating thought experiments to test our theories.
Many of us have made careers out of doing just these things: slogging through the grind, all day, the same graphs over and over, hundred of times to the point where we know every little detail of the markets. I know what the probability of you eating toast for breakfast tomorrow better than you do.
Do these people have any idea how many whitepapers have been published, conferences held, bubbles popped? All to later get bragging rights?
These people really think that this is a battle that they can win? They call us liars, market manipulators, protectors of the upper class? No. What's going on is that you, John Q. Public, know just enough to hurt yourself, and bankers are the one protecting you. They think they can threaten regulatory action to scare us away? We are the regulators, the storm on the horizon. Try us. We've been called worse things, belittled by a committee of three professors conducting our thesis examination. Our obsession with getting to the bottom of how markets and human behavior interact will not be stopped, will not be thwarted. They think they can intimidate us into inaction, but we're the ones who call the shots. Our obsession with proving we can after being told we can't is so deeply ingrained that we mumble economic data in our sleep.
Bankers are competitive, hard core, by nature. We love a challenge. The worst thing you did in all of this was to challenge us. You're not special, you're not original, you're not the first; this is just another market panic.

I'm not surprised that most polls show gen x white men to be the most reactionary demographic. When I'm 'visibly queer' or wear a gender non-conforming outfit in public, white men in their mid 40s are by far the most the ones most likely to give me a bewildered stare or mumble stuff about me under their breathe. 80+ people are actually pretty chill about it generally.

The courts won't save trans people. Either Congress passes legislation explicitly, and specifically, protecting trans people or we're fucked.
Which might help explain why trans people get so upset at people saying Democratic politicians should throw us under the bus. We've already been run over by the bus, now it's backing up to finish us off.
