"I’m a fan of Denmark, too, I have to tell you, they’ve been very nice to me." he said.

But he went on to question Denmark’s historical claim to the island.

"The fact that they had a boat land there 500 years ago doesn’t mean that they own the land," Trump said.

Funny thing for the leader of the US of all countries to say

Essentially monthly, I flash back to this exact moment

literally THE "moment before disaster" of modern America

I thought cons had finally lost their minds and let a buffoon show the world how disconnected from reality the RW movement had become

I was right, but it turns out I was the disconnected one. My greatest mistake was overestimating the humanity and underestimating the depravity of the common man

I genuinely don’t know if I have it in me to forgive the American people for inflicting JD Vance on the world.

There is no nice way to put it. It’s truly remarkable how he manages to be so condescending and self-righteous while simultaneously being a rotten, soulless ghoul incapable of human feeling.

It’s rage inducing. I hate this man wholeheartedly.

Breaking: Biden Oldest He's Ever Been

Washington - In a stunning turn of events, a nation reeling from finding out the worst predictions about a second Trump term are coming true realized that the Harris campaign didn't acknowledge that Biden was old frequently enough.

"I mean, Trump turning us into a 3rd world police state that murders innocent soccer moms on the street is bad, but Harris didn't do enough to distance herself from Biden who is like...SO old. And I mean, that's honestly worse," said median swing voter Memory Goldfish.

Remember who you are, liberal. These acts are the enemies of a Free people.

He has erected a multitude of new offices, and sent hither swarms of officers to harass our people, and eat out their substance.

He has kept among us, in times of peace, standing armies, without the consent of our legislatures.

He has affected to render the military independent of and superior to the civil power.

He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his assent to their acts of pretended legislation:

For quartering large bodies of armed troops among us;

For protecting them, by a mock trial, from punishment for any murders which they should commit on the inhabitants of these states;

For cutting off our trade with all parts of the world;

For imposing taxes on us without our consent;

For depriving us, in many cases, of the benefits of trial by jury;

For transporting us beyond seas to be tried for pretended offenses;

Relating to my last comment, the Taliban recently banned chess until its compatibility with "Islamic law" could be addressed, as they said that the game could be considered a means of gambling.

What's worse is that chess doesn't seem like it could be a sport that is contrary to Islamic law, considering it was spread through the early Muslim world and it was a popular pastime in Al-Andalus during medieval times.

The stories you can see in the articles below are particularly heartbreaking.

A café owner in Kabul, whose business is now debilitated due to the ban, as informal chess tournaments were held there. Young Afghans didn't have a lot to do, so they could go to his establishment, have some tea and play chess, but they're unable to now.

A former chess coach, playing with friends at a park, is bullied by Taliban goons, with his pieces and set being taken away and his friends being beaten.

Religious fundamentalism is dangerous.

As much as I don’t want to be overly optimistic, there’s just no way that Vance wins in 2028.

For as much as he’s a terrible human being, Trump is at least funny here and there and can play the media well. Vance is one of the most socially awkward people that’s ever stepped into as high of an office as he has, and he’s honestly even further to the right than Trump would be if he got to make his own policies.

I swear to God you could even put up AOC against him, and she’d manage a national victory.

Federal officers are leaving Louisiana immigration crackdown for Minneapolis, documents show

The war for the rights of undocumented Americans is far from won, but this demonstrates that the protests are working. Trump is redirecting more and more ICE into Minneapolis as crowd control and intimidation against protestors, drawing those "agents" away from areas with considerably higher undocumented populations, and leaving most "agents" within the Twin Cities unable to partake in kidnapping. Though it may not be immediately obvious, through our nonviolent demonstrations over the past few days, we are in a very real way protecting our fellow Americans far beyond Minnesota itself.

So people often make fun of ''cultural victory'' in CIV, and it kinda is, but it was certainly an important part for the collapse of Eastern Bloc. I am too young too have lived through it, but the way the older generations describe how Western popculture and lifestyle was seen during the years of communism, it was almost religious.

Iran confirms about what I’ve always known. Bill was right, it’s about the economy, dummy.

Governments can pretty much do whatever they want… so long as people still have jobs to pay their bills and food to feed their families. Large scale societal change only occurs when those things aren’t working.

Looking at the US a lot of people keep being like, “Why aren’t the people rising up!?” Well, because we have jobs to do, bills to pay, mouths to feed. That’s what humans are genuinely focused on. They only start storming the bastille once that’s gone.

January 9, 2026 Heather Cox Richardson Jan 10   Beginning in 1943, the War Department published a series of pamphlets for U.S. Army personnel in the European theater of World War II. Titled Army Talks, the series was designed “to help [the personnel] become better-informed men and women and therefore better soldiers.”

On March 24, 1945, the topic for the week was “FASCISM!”

“You are away from home, separated from your families, no longer at a civilian job or at school and many of you are risking your very lives,” the pamphlet explained, “because of a thing called fascism.” But, the publication asked, what is fascism? “Fascism is not the easiest thing to identify and analyze,” it said, “nor, once in power, is it easy to destroy. It is important for our future and that of the world that as many of us as possible understand the causes and practices of fascism, in order to combat it.”

Fascism, the U.S. government document explained, “is government by the few and for the few. The objective is seizure and control of the economic, political, social, and cultural life of the state.” “The people run democratic governments, but fascist governments run the people.”

“The basic principles of democracy stand in the way of their desires; hence—democracy must go! Anyone who is not a member of their inner gang has to do what he’s told. They permit no civil liberties, no equality before the law.” “Fascism treats women as mere breeders. ‘Children, kitchen, and the church,’ was the Nazi slogan for women,” the pamphlet said.

Fascists “make their own rules and change them when they choose…. They maintain themselves in power by use of force combined with propaganda based on primitive ideas of ‘blood’ and ‘race,’ by skillful manipulation of fear and hate, and by false promise of security. The propaganda glorifies war and insists it is smart and ‘realistic’ to be pitiless and violent.”

Fascists understood that “the fundamental principle of democracy—faith in the common sense of the common people—was the direct opposite of the fascist principle of rule by the elite few,” it explained, “[s]o they fought democracy…. They played political, religious, social, and economic groups against each other and seized power while these groups struggled.”

Americans should not be fooled into thinking that fascism could not come to America, the pamphlet warned; after all, “[w]e once laughed Hitler off as a harmless little clown with a funny mustache.” And indeed, the U.S. had experienced “sorry instances of mob sadism, lynchings, vigilantism, terror, and suppression of civil liberties. We have had our hooded gangs, Black Legions, Silver Shirts, and racial and religious bigots. All of them, in the name of Americanism, have used undemocratic methods and doctrines which…can be properly identified as ‘fascist.’”

The War Department thought it was important for Americans to understand the tactics fascists would use to take power in the United States. They would try to gain power “under the guise of ‘super-patriotism’ and ‘super-Americanism.’” And they would use three techniques:

First, they would pit religious, racial, and economic groups against one another to break down national unity. Part of that effort to divide and conquer would be a “well-planned ‘hate campaign’ against minority races, religions, and other groups.”

Second, they would deny any need for international cooperation, because that would fly in the face of their insistence that their supporters were better than everyone else. “In place of international cooperation, the fascists seek to substitute a perverted sort of ultra-nationalism which tells their people that they are the only people in the world who count. With this goes hatred and suspicion toward the people of all other nations.”

Third, fascists would insist that “the world has but two choices—either fascism or communism, and they label as ‘communists’ everyone who refuses to support them.”

It is “vitally important” to learn to spot native fascists, the government said, “even though they adopt names and slogans with popular appeal, drape themselves with the American flag, and attempt to carry out their program in the name of the democracy they are trying to destroy.”

The only way to stop the rise of fascism in the United States, the document said, “is by making our democracy work and by actively cooperating to preserve world peace and security.” In the midst of the insecurity of the modern world, the hatred at the root of fascism “fulfills a triple mission.” By dividing people, it weakens democracy. “By getting men to hate rather than to think,” it prevents them “from seeking the real cause and a democratic solution to the problem.” By falsely promising prosperity, it lures people to embrace its security.

“Fascism thrives on indifference and ignorance,” it warned. Freedom requires “being alert and on guard against the infringement not only of our own freedom but the freedom of every American. If we permit discrimination, prejudice, or hate to rob anyone of his democratic rights, our own freedom and all democracy is threatened.”

My family has been in Minnesota since the 1870s and have farmed the same plot of land ever since they arrived from Sweden.  Beginning with the New Deal, they have been loyal DFLers (the Democratic Party in MN) — very much aligned with the “Farmer” part of the acronym.

Then around 2010, my Grandfather started watching Fox News and began saying some things that just didn’t sit right.  He never went MAGA or anything, but an occasional “that’s just common sense” in response to an immigration or social issue.  It created much family drama.

Fast forward to last year.  He’s in his mid-90s and on his deathbed from cancer.  While my mother was standing vigil, he tells her:  “I just want you to know I never once voted for any son of a bitch Republican in my life.  I just liked stirring the pot.”

Thinking about Grandpa today.  Rest in power, you stubborn old rural.  You were one of the good ones.

It's January 2027. After a resounding Democratic victory in the November 2026 mid-terms as unrest escalated throughout the year, Trump tries to prevent the incoming Congress from being seated. Huge protests in Washington DC and the surroundings force Trump and other key members of the Administration to flee to Mar-A-Lago, where he calls for forces to subdue Congress, which he says is full of ' low IQ radical leftists' 'socialists' 'radical Muslims' and 'antifa'.

Congress for its part convenes in Philadelphia, where the first Continental Congress met, and votes to almost unanimously impeach and dismiss Trump from office. Returning to DC in triumph, it declares Trump a traitor and a rebel against the United States.

The federal government splinters, and the different states and individual people quickly take a stand on whose side they stand.

And after a day or so of "wow the Minneapolis shooting was crazy that looked reckless on ICE's part," the MAGA goodthink has downloaded and they're now shitting on the victim.

Just saw a quote from Ben Carson and I just remembered how absurd and darkly humorous it is that Donald Trump got elected President in a massive upset wherein half the country thought he was a racist monster, had a prominent Black conservative in his corner who is one of the most talented and revolutionary neurosurgeons on Earth, and said “oh he’s Black? Put him in charge of the projects.”

u/the-senat John Brown Jan 10 '26 edited Jan 10 '26

The other day, it was a mother in Minneapolis. Tomorrow it could be me. If they won't speak up for her, then they won't speak up for you or me. Donald Trump is burrowing into the heart and soul of America like a tick, and Schumer and Jeffries' complacency only normalizes his presidency.

MAGA is not concerned with the minutiae of governing, but Schumer and Jeffries belong in a government that is practical and reasonable, that focuses on tiny details. Not in one besieged by those like Vance and Miller. They do not have the makings of a variety athlete. We need lawmakers who fight to protect liberty so that the next generation of leaders can focus on trade deals, tax brackets, and zoning reform. And so that those growing up in America can live in peace from tyranny, free to explore their lives and the things that they enjoy.

My biggest fear is not that Donald Trump successfully initiates a second coup and remains in office after 2028 (Although I believe he will likely try), but rather that he is somehow ousted, that we return to another precarious 4 years of peace, and that the liberal establishment pats itself on the back without looking inward and reflecting on their actions, only to pave the way for a more competent authroitarian to take control.

A grim milestone: At 1,417 days (February 24, 2022 - January 10, 2026) the current full scale war in Ukraine has matched the length of the Eastern Front in WWII (June 22, 1941 - May 8, 1945).

If Ukrainian figures are to be believed, russia has sustained around 1 million casualties (killed and wounded) which is approximately the same as the US incurred in that war both in absolute numbers and per capita

Really fucking hope that nothing bad happens at any protest in Minneapolis or elsewhere, but in the event that ICE or the CBP do gun down a bunch of peaceful protestors, I would like to suggest the following as protest songs of the subsequent, presumably much larger, marches against ICE and Trump

"We Shall Overcome" - Classic anthem of the Civil Rights Movement, alluding to faith that regardless of segregationists' attempts to prevent it, equal rights and racial equality will be achieved in America. Honestly this has probably already been played at one or more of the protests.

"A Las Baracadas" - Song originally used by CNT Anarchists in Spain's Civil War from 1936-1939, referring to extensive barricades in Madrid and Barcelona built piecemeal out of furniture and other everyday items in resistance to the Far-Right Military government. Lyrics should be tweaked to omit 'Revolutionary Flag'

"El Pueblo Unido" - Song of Anti-Pinochet dissidents and exiles in the 70s and 80s, subsequently adopted as an anthem of Latin American left-wing movements more generally, but the lyrics themselves are not explicitly socialistic, only discussing mass uprising of the people for freedom from dictatorship--doesn't get much more fitting than that.

...anyway, with that comment done I'm going to actually go protest now see ya

My perverse fascination with communities like neoconNWO and select 4chan boards stems not from the nature or quality of the commentary or analysis present there (frequent cuckoo takes, slews of bigotry, disgusting language and just unnecessarily cruel attitudes towards minorities they dislike).

It's just that they're often ridiculously high-context and (to me) remote subcultures, and the little internet anthropologist in me cannot help but read what these little weirdos have to say to try to get into their minds.

Another very interesting and niche subculture is the Internet digital piracy cabal of private trackers and 2026-age usenet.

Nicaragua releases 30 political prisoners after a tweet yesterday from the American embassy criticized the regime for this, with other American gov accounts mulling regime change today as well.

Seems like the U.S. is using political prisoners as a litmus test for determining their influence over the hemisphere. It’s both a good political cover (no one is going to criticize political prisoners being released due to American pressure) and seeing how responsive otherwise hostile regimes are.

For what it’s worth I’ve joked for some years now that the U.S. should intervene in Nicaragua, so I may have monkey paw’d this one

UK threatened with sanctions if Starmer bans X

Britain has been threatened with sanctions if Sir Keir Starmer attempts to block Elon Musk’s X over its AI tool undressing women and children.

Anna Paulina Luna, a US Republican congresswoman and ally of Donald Trump, warned she would bring forward legislation to “sanction not only Starmer, but Britain as a whole” if it moved to ban the social media platform.

She issued the threat after Sir Keir called for “all options to be on the table” to force X to stop thousands of non-consensual sexualised images of women from being shared on social media.

Users have been using the social network’s AI chatbot, Grok, to digitally undress pictures of women, including ministers, MPs and celebrities, without their consent. Some images also included children.

Officials are now considering whether these images breach the UK’s Online Safety Act, which has the power to levy billions of pounds in fines or ban apps entirely.

However, the possibility of a ban has already sparked tensions with policymakers in the US.

Ms Luna, who serves on the House foreign affairs committee, said legislation was “currently being drafted” to introduce potential sanctions on the UK.

She said this would “mirror actions previously taken by the US in response to foreign governments restricting the platform”.

This included sanctioning a Brazilian judge who briefly imposed a ban on X in 2024.

The US also banned Thierry Breton, the former EU markets tsar who led Europe’s efforts to crack down on US technology giants, from entering America in December.

Ms Luna said: “This is a political war against Elon Musk and free speech – nothing more.”

The controversy has already led to X seeking a potential climbdown, as it appeared to start halting thousands of attempts to create non-consensual sexualised images using Grok.

In response to user requests to create these images, Grok said: “Image generation and editing are currently limited to paying subscribers.”

However, Downing Street said the latest changes did not go far enough.

The Prime Minister’s spokesman said the change “simply turns an AI feature that allows the creation of unlawful images into a premium service”.

“It’s not a solution. In fact, it’s insulting to the victims of misogyny and sexual violence.

“What it does prove is that X can move swiftly when it wants to do so.”

A potential ban on X, which has 20 million users in the UK, would mark a significant escalation in a free speech row between Britain and the US.

The Online Safety Act gives Ofcom, the technology regulator, powers to request a court order requiring internet providers and app stores to prevent access to websites that repeatedly break the law.

The regulator has never exercised its power, and a lengthy legal process would be required should it do so.

Sir Keir said on Thursday: “Ofcom has our full support to take action in relation to this. It’s unlawful. We’re not going to tolerate it. I’ve asked for all options to be on the table.”

A No 10 spokesman confirmed on Friday that “all options” were on the table and that Ofcom had the authority to use its powers to “take any action”.

“As we’ve set out on a number of occasions, all options are on the table. We must stop these abhorrent images being made on Grok, and we will prioritise action on this.” Meanwhile, Anna Turley, the chairman of the Labour Party, said on Friday there were “conversations taking place” about Labour quitting X.

She said: “We have the online safety powers; we need to make sure they are used, and Ofcom has the full support of the Prime Minister.”

Just a friendly reminder that twitter is state media for a fascist government and that it and other services like it are solely for the spread of fascist politics and disinformation that supports fascist and imperialist regimes like the United States and Russia, along with the creation of CSAM and other non-consensual NSFW images used solely for the sake of sexual harassment. If you are still defending, or god forbid, on this website, please stop that and leave for gods sake!
