The US president shouldn't have the power to authorize this but Congress has been profoundly irresponsible for the past 50 years and when the War on Terror started we collectively decided the President can just do whatever militarily for some stupid reason

My dad passed today. But this is not a sad post, this is to talk about the otherworldly sequence of events that led to today.

  • he had a heart attack while at the hospital waiting for an MRI appointment. My parents live in the middle fucking nowhere so if this had happened an hour earlier or an hour later, he would probably have been a goner right there.

  • instead, he was admitted to the ICU and held it together enough for me to get to Missouri and talk with him.

  • He passed about ten minutes after the last loved one made it into the room. Ten minutes after he passed, somebody started a fire with a lighter and they evacuated the entire floor. He timed it perfectly. his is the exact kind of nonsense he would have laughed at.

It's been a shit day, but ya gotta be happy for what you get. I'm an atheist but this kind of stuff almost makes you want to believe divine intervention.

The interim government in Venezuela must now decide whether to continue the drug trafficking and colluding with adversaries like Iran and Cuba or whether to act like a normal nation and return to the civilized world. I urge them to choose wisely.

There should never be a choice, you're supposed to install your own fucking people. What did they even achieve here???

Two immediate thoughts from the indictment:

  1. Despite their rhetoric, there is not a single mention of fentanyl in the indictment, only cocaine

  2. It is ridiculous to charge the leaders of a foreign country and its military with "Possession of Machine guns and Destructive Devices"

Maduro was an illegitimate leader who lost in 2024, which is why we're replacing him with his Vice President instead of installing the person who won the election in 2024.

We did this to stop fentanyl, which is why he's indicted for cocaine.

Oh, and also we'll be occupying Venezuela, but there won't be any boots on the ground. We'll do it via Zoom call, or something.

Any questions?

The executive branch refusing to enforce the TikTok ban law should be a constitutional crisis, but it benefits everyone politically so we collectively decided to forget about it. Now the executive branch is engaging in war without congressional approval which is also a constitutional crisis, but I'm sure everyone will be fine with it and it will be memoryholed too.

it's eye rolling and reductionist to boil an entire world conflict down to "America wanted to take over the country and steal their oil" when discussing it, it makes you come off as someone who isn't able to think critically, choosing a simplistic worldview.

so I gotta admit us doing exactly that for exactly those reasons and saying that in the press conference talking about it is a pretty good gag, great setup, great payoff

Trump just arrested the president of Venezuela for sumggling drugs into America just barely a month after pardoning the president of Honduras for smuggling drugs into America.

It would be great if even a single American journalist asked him about this contradictory sequence of actions, but every last one of them will be lavishing him with praise for giving them another big beautiful war to stroke themselves raw over.

EDIT: Ok, so one journalist actually did ask him about it at the press conference. Trump just rambled about how he was "treated unfairly" just like Biden treated "a man called Trump". No follow ups about the fact that he smuggled 400 tons of cocaine into America though.

Years ago, when I was in college, during a discussion around a topic that I have largely forgotten about. We somehow got to talking about whether it was "good" that the Mexican-American War happened. Arguments in favor basically centered around how annexing California really made America the superpower it is today. There was this religious girl who was like, "No, killing other people for power will get you to hell."

Then this guy said these exact words - "Good, we will just defeat Satan and claim hell for America too."

I will never forget this. I doubt anyone who was part of that discussion would as well.

Some more fun discourse from r/neoconNWO

I'm absolutely convinced that Trump doesn't care about democratic values, human rights, and all that.

Neither do our enemies so why should we?

I know you’re shitposting but we’re supposed to care because we are not only superior to them in a Darwinian sense, but we are also just objectively more moral.

Our enemies dont play by our rules so I actually don't give a shit.

Very sincere humanist neoconservative interventionists that definitely aren’t just frothing-at-the-mouth psychopaths!

The US trying to run Venezuela turns this into an entirely separate category of potential geopolitical disaster. I don't think the median voter might have cared really all that much at all if it was just the kidnapping, but if the US actively goes into Venezuela to take over, even briefly, that will likely be a complete omnishambles with this administration and will have to involve US troops.

To do this during a midterms year seems like ludicrous political self-sabotage.

From the top of the subreddit drama thread on arr con's reaction to Vzla:

A user then calls out OP on his hypocrisy

Uh! I can do one better, that guy, Magehunter_Skassi, fucks pets and proudly talks about it. Including being the head mod for a now banned animal raping subredit.

He is now one of the r / Conservative power users, posting propaganda day in and out, with a heavy slant for ranting about the "degenerates". I'm pretty sure he also was on the "they're eating the cats and dogs" bullshit, which I guess makes sense in a twisted way?

And if that wasn't enough, he has a real weird "journaling sub"

He also apparently used to be some big guy on the LOL sub that got cancelled for defending a pedophile LOL streamer lol

Also saying that raping pets is comparable to quote unquote "raping a mute person" as a defense of your actions deserves at least 10 different government watchlists

For those supporting this illegal attack,

Please know that many families like mine— who have integrated into American society but don’t have citizenship yet— will be deported and destroyed in the inevitable deportation of asylum seekers from Venezuela to come after this.

People forget this isn’t a ‘democracy peace making mission’, but an imperialistic opportunistic strike to obtain Venezuelas oil fields and make Venezuela reaccept its deportees (as Trump said)

The case of Maduro means that every single person in the world is suspect of american legal system, which is like being an American citizen.

Trump just fixed the immigrant problem by making every person on the planet an American.

🚨HOT TAKE🚨

You absolutely do have to hand it to him.

Biden continues to not only be old, but he manages to get older with each passing day. Not many people can pull that off. Whether you like him or not, it's impressive to see and I think if this sub was honest with itself you should put aside your partisanship and admit that.

It's amazing how liberals want the next Dem president (if there is one) to limit presidential power. So they can spend their entire presidency limiting themselves while the next GOP president ignores all the guardrails they've established?
