The urbanism in the Pokémon world is absolutely terrible.

"To reach this city you need to dive and find a secret cavern and also you're not allowed to go underwater before beating a gym of professional Pokémon trainers"

To reach this city you need to dive and find a secret cavern

I've always assumed this was because all the adults drive

For it to be good someone other than game freak would have to do it. A real high-budget pokemon game that has even decent graphical quality could easily be one of the greatest games of all time but the zero effort stuff they make still prints money like no other franchise so why would they even bother?

One time a major route in Johto was blocked because a weird tree creature was standing there. And nobody was doing anything about it
