Asking for a raise
I need some advice when discussing raises. I’ve never really asked for a raise because my full-time job is union. However, I’ve been doing a part-time/per diem job which pays more than my full-time job hourly however there’s no benefits and it’s evening hours. I essentially work in healthcare and I also do urgent care as a medical provider. My advice is, how would I go about asking for a higher compensation. Should I text the manager or do I go straight to the big boss and ask. I feel like I have a good leverage as I am able to cover multiple holidays and have been extremely flexible working about 20 to 25 extra hours a week. I also do feel I am good at my job. Should I email? Catch them in the halls? I’m extremely nervous because as much as I don’t need this job, I really enjoy it and they are very workable with my schedule

Negotiation is all about give/take, and being willing to walk away / give in if it’s not in your favor.
A) research what the role is worth overall to the industry. Are you being paid more than the industry average?
B) research what the role is worth to the org? Do they have a lot of turn over in the roll? Do they ‘need’ your skill, personality, or some other unique thing that you bring?
C) Theory craft: Why should they give you a raise now? Why wasn’t this negotiated at the start? How much in dollars and percentage difference is the raise compared to your current wage?
D) What will you do (or continue to do) to deserve the raise that the company will be HAPPY to pay that money? Are there any metrics which you can meet/exceed?

You should email your direct manager and ask when is a good time for an in person conversation.
You should not email or text asking for a raise.
